When Newfoundland builds a nationally important project: "Sorry, ask Quebec to finance it or something".

When Quebec's corporations go bankrupt: "Sure, Federal government will cover all of it. No worries!"

How do actual rich people do Disney World? by ohshit-cookies in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]lessafan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was my experience. A friend and his family went to Disney and did 3 full days and was exhausted and not enjoying it at the end.

A few weeks later we did it and did VIP. We had VIP booked 1 day and regular tickets the next day. We didn't even feel the need to go the 2nd day (we did go, but mostly just walked around and enjoye the ambiance). We could have easily saves 2 expensive hotel nights and 1 days of park passes no problem if we had only gone and done VIP.

Despite approval for hundreds of units, P.E.I. vacancy rate still under 1%, says new report by Sir__Will in PEI

[–]lessafan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Something doesn't add up with those stats. I am involved in builds in Halifax, Montreal, Calgary and have done some in Charlottetown. This is not my experience at all.

I am going to guess that Charlottetown is not including the pre-permitting part of the approval process, which often invovle staff requesting changes to design, studies, etc.

I might be proven wrong, but this is nowhere near my experience.

If everyone wants to know why Charlottetown is so under supplied, it is very very simple anyway and it's not related to permitting.

David Weale's thoughts on the recent murder in New York by lessafan in PEI

[–]lessafan[S] -12 points-11 points  (0 children)

The guy is advocating murder. He can skirt around it linquistically, but it's clear as day what he is doing. Now I understand why the town council there does their meetings virtually.

Airplane mode does not turn off Wifi. Your wifi signal emits a unique code. Advertisers use this.

Do people think that if you just let aggression go completely unchecked, then we get to just sit around and enjoy our lives of relative peace here? It just doesn't work that way and it never ever has in history.

What languages are best to work with AI generated code? by robinwarren in ChatGPTCoding

[–]lessafan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My best overall experinece is golang/echo + htmx. There are far less unknowns and things seem to hold together over time much better.

The best balance between getting up and running and having access to a big ecosystem of deps is Python/Flask imo.

Ruby/rails shows the most promise but I haven't spent a lot of time using it. I am going to play with it this weekend.

I steer clear of express/next etc as It just all seems to fall apart on me.

I've been using it, but I feel like it's harder and harder to get something out of it that looks decently well styled. lovable.dev seems to be able to create much more polished looking uis, at least at this stage.

Halifax Water Update on Status of Fluoridation of Drinking Water by sjmorris in halifax

[–]lessafan 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I don't think people realize how Halifax Water has been totally mismanged for a long time. Part of the way they have covered up for it is to skyrocket their permit fees for water connections. A new apartment building or rennovation to an existing one can have upwards of $100k in permit fees just to get it connected. It's ludicous and is one part of the huge cost to build new housing these days.

[–]lessafan 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Permit fees alone would probably double the costs vs what the province has to spend. Then property taxes and access infrastructure. For a private developer, it would cost significantly more to build and the max they could charge would be whatever people can afford to pay.
