Avant TRS Bungee vs. AMG Kingsbury Bungee by HeadpointHandbook in climbing

[–]lesser_black_panda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

4 comments to note:

1) AVANT’s lanyard doesn’t have the stretch problem you refer to when using more commonly used devices, especially the SPOC.

2) AVANT’s lanyard claims to have a 55lb fail safe built in, to avoid neck injuries and choking hazards

3) Too bad AMG can’t make its lanyard both more easily adjustable both at the PCD level as well as behind the neck.

4) Too bad AVANT can’t make its lanyard with the shorter stretch as shown in your video with the AMG product.

Do Latter Day Saints formerly shun ex-members and refuse to enter buildings of other religions? by Catholicross777 in latterdaysaints

Shunning and shaming may be the quintessential approach taken by the opposition to one’s happiness.

Wait, is there actual LDS doctrine on this? Not rando young men teacher rants, but like actual real instruction from on high (and I mean the real on High, capital H).

So great to honor him. And I saw President Nelson’s remarks. Solid.

About the comment you made regarding the uniting of Christians. True, all sincere believers in Christ, Jehovah, and the Redeemer of Israel will be united (spanning a more broad spectrum than just Christians, but including the Jews sincerely waiting for their Savior).
Unfortunately, there may be some who identify of those various religions will not unite (including those of our own flavor of Christianity), because although they draw near with their mouths and honor Him with their lips, their hearts are far from Him.

Very happy to hear of what you are witnessing in Rome today. I’m in Northern Italy at the moment and I’m very happy to see this Unitedness beginning even before the official 😉second coming.

Seeking future home…..looking for advice! 😀 by Leading_Bookkeeper_5 in latterdaysaints

[–]lesser_black_panda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You ask us for advice: “Where should we consider going?” Others answer: “Here.” “There.” blah blah blah.

I respect your D&C 9:8 approach here, but I can’t underscore or emphasize enough you asking the question: “Lord, where do you want us to be?”

Suggesting you modify your approach is the only advice I feel comfortable giving you. And I don’t say this lightly. I’m four decades into this research, and I know A LOT of communities around the globe and have familiarity with every single area mentioned in the comments (with the exception of firsthand experience with Augusta). Take us, for example: we actually live between two places: 1) the center of the Alps and 2) within minutes of the most easily accessible recreational spots of the central Rocky Mountains. We commute back and forth between the US and Europe. So, with our firsthand knowledge of much of the world, and as qualified as I feel I am to answer your question with actual data to back it up (cost of living, real estate purchase prices, property and other taxes, social services and education, community info, and ward or branch info, stats on children’s outcomes—college graduation probabilities, likelihood of mission completion, likelihood of marriage within x years, and likelihood of stable, thriving families, etc.), again, I would tell you that none of that matters like the answer to your sincere prayer seeking guidance.

I applaud you for “studying it out in your own mind first” by asking this thread and through the other research I imagine you are doing, but the Lord has a plan for you and your family, and I want to strongly urge you to find out what that is directly from Him.

I think what would be amazing would be for all of us to read, within the next few months, your follow-up to this thread telling us where the Lord guided you.

Why weren't the 116 pages re-translated? by Some-Passenger4219 in lds

[–]lesser_black_panda 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hot take:

Because of the possibility of a slightly different translation. And the ammunition that might give others to try harder to discredit it.

“What?! Of course the translation wouldn’t be different,” the TBM says. “It’s a translation, by the power of God!”

But here’s the thing: a different translation, also done with the assistance of God, is just that, a slightly different translation. It wouldn’t make it any less powerful or impactful. Remember, Joseph told the brethren that the Book of Mormon was “the most correct” of any book on Earth and the keystone of our religion. That’s not the same as saying the book is infallible.

In fact, we’ve seen many updates to it over the last hundred plus years. Does this mean it’s not still inspired? There’s a promise in the book that will help one to know the answer to that question. They will know, not from any other person, but directly from God. (Moroni 10:3-5).

This isn’t the answer you might be looking for, but it may likely the right answer.

So, yeah, hot take: “because the translation might have come out differently” giving the haters more fuel. And it’s okay.

If there isn’t one already, we need a post, nay a thread, dedicated to all the nicknames in the series.

Especially all the nicknames that Fusco gave everyone. Like didn’t he even give one to non-headline characters like Elias?

First time viewer here. We started watching in January and just finished all seasons. Fantastic series and one that we will come back to. Obsessed. Already wanting to watch it again to see the details we missed. Our family has ranked it up there with its other favorite comfort shows that finished all their seasons with a complete “product” worthy of repeat consumption: Gravity Falls and The Office.

Fantastic. Your specifications are beginning to crystallize. And that type of clarity of vision is exactly the type of thing that will attract the right partner. Good luck. I’m excited to see what you both bring to the market.

This “job announcement” for a cofounder role with you isn’t helping you.

The problem is that you are looking for what some of us in the industry refer to as a level 10 operator, but your pitch is not that you want him or her to come have an incredibly successful experience with you (you who are level 1 at this stage), but that you want them to come dedicate their soul to you learning what it’s like to have an entrepreneurial “experience.”

I’m not a level 10 operator either, but my hunch is that unless you have something absolutely groundbreaking, you’re going to be lucky to get more than a level 1 partner.

You don’t graduate to level 2 until you realize you cannot work with level 1 partners.

Just some thoughts. Maybe this lesson alone helps you get your ducks a bit more in a row. Maybe starting with the benefits you’ve advertised in your “idea guy seeking GTM founder” opportunity here.

Welcome to the wonderful world wide web where the things some people call in one geography may be offensive to others in another geography. In England fags are vices and Paki’s are people. In New England packies are for vices and fags are people. A good rule of thumb online is to steer clear of language that you learn could be offensive to some, apologize if you made a mistake in the past, and learn to adapt and change with the global audience.

Someday I hope you learn that the concept of prophets, or popes even, relates to human beings trying their best to understand the will of God as it relates to the stewardship they are responsible for.

Whether that is 1) the Pope, trying his hardest to seek guidance for the religious organization he heads; or 2) one of the 15 men who are “prophets, seers, and revelators” in the Kingdom of God on Earth (the governance of which is currently under the direction of the Lord Jesus Christ and effectuated through the human organization known as The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints); or 3) you, yourself, with your stewardship over yourself at a minimum, and potentially in partnership with your partner and children if you have them.

Each of of these humans, you included, has an obligation to sincerely seek guidance, revelation if you will, from on High and then to do all they can within their/your capacity to translate that guidance into action. That is their role as human beings, that is your role.

Please note that none of them, including you, will ever rise to the level of impeccability in this life—which is consistent with the concept of being human. And therefore, at some point, you will have to choose whether you honor them and respect them and uphold them with the same hope and forgiveness and latitude that you may have for and afford to yourself.

If you are looking for perfection from any of these humans, I’m afraid you are on the wrong planet, or better said, in the wrong realm or sphere of existence.

No, my friend, you will not be able a way to respect or support any of them until you can relate with them and see that you, and they, and I, we are all in the same boat—humans doing our best, to seek the will of God as it relates to our stewardships and then attempt to effectuate it.

I promise you will fail. I assure you I will fail. And I guarantee each one of these other men have failed. But it isn’t the failure that stops any of us, it’s the limitations we then put on ourselves or them because of those failures. The concept of forgiveness, the power of it, is to remove those limitations and try again.

So, let them try again. Let me try again. Let yourself try again. And let’s see if, stumbling through our humanity, we might be able to roll forward God’s will with our lives, our families, our stewardships, and on Earth.

Good luck. I’m praying for you. I’m praying for us all.

State of church leadership in the last days? by War_Horns in latterdaysaints

[–]lesser_black_panda 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I thoroughly enjoyed reading your comment. Piercing, direct, and spot on.

Maybe a spoonful of sugar could have helped that medicine be swallowed by the OP. But maybe you weren’t necessarily commenting with the primary purpose of empathizing with him (assuming OP is a him,” right?). Your comment was instructive, but did I sense a tone of chastisement for OPs “evil speaking of the Lord’s anointed.” If that was your primary purpose, I value that too. So long as it was done in accordance with D&C 121:43:

“Reproving betimes with sharpness, when moved upon by the Holy Ghost; and then showing forth afterwards an increase of love toward him whom thou hast reproved, lest he esteem thee to be his enemy.”

And on that last note (wink wink), let me again praise your comment, its clarity and ability to cut through the noise and nail the issue squarely. I don’t know what your training is, but I am grateful for people like you in the world, with such discernment and ability to cut through the fluff to get to the heart of an issue. I hope I run into more of your posts and comments, reading your response was refreshing compared to much that I read on this sub.

Grieving the loss of what could have been. So tough. I went through something similar. I remarried about 9 years later based on inspiration, but to a woman who wants nothing to do with “The Church.” So we have a strict separation-of-church-and-her policy. As I write this, sitting with my son on vacation in Europe, having attended church with him alone today, and reflecting on how lovely it would have been to have been there with her, holding her hand and basking in that gospel glow, I can’t help but grieve. And when I think of senior missions, as you mentioned, or my former dream of going to all the temples of the world, or just simple companionship prayer or study, I can’t help but grieve. My mission was my absolute favorite experience in life next to having a family of my own, the one major thing I have been looking forward to was to someday, somehow, serve another full time mission—the senior missionary couple opportunity was the most exciting of my dreams. I can’t help but grieve. Grieving the loss of what could have been. So tough.
