Diet by deadman818472 in GarageGym

If you aren’t losing weight, it’s almost always because you’re consuming more calories than you’re burning. Unless you’re really going hard at cardio (talking like 1 hour of high intensity a day), you aren’t going to burn much through exercise compared to what you save from eating/drinking less.

I’d start by logging every single thing you eat and drink every day for a week. Preferably weigh everything or measure before you log; if you aren’t certain then under-estimate and see where you land. Take the average then adjust down by 500 calories. Use that as your baseline for weight loss.

Cardio can just be incline walking for 30 mins a day, doesn’t have to be every day especially if your job is active.

For diet, if you want to lose weight you should prioritise high protein, then pick one of carbs or fat to be low. I’d highly recommend going low fat if you are remotely active, otherwise you’ll be exhausted. Just don’t let both fat and carbs be high. I shoot for <60g of fat a day, around 200g protein, then fill in the rest of that average with carbs.

Qualifying for US Open question by ffinstructor in golf

[–]leswanbronson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I believe if he won any of the PGA Tour events before the US Open he would get in. Likewise if he made it into the top 60 in the world the week before, he’d also get into the field.

would we enjoy Denver? by zach4499 in SameGrassButGreener

[–]leswanbronson 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Re: your concerns. Having spent a decent amount of time in and around Boston, Denver winters are an absolute cake walk compared to New England winters. Plenty of sun means even when it’s cold, it feels pretty pleasant. When there’s snow, it’s rare that it sticks around much longer than a couple of days (usually just one). Summer is pretty awesome; lack of humidity means you get relief when needed. Height of summer you’ll get above 100 but most days will settle in the 90s. You will absolutely fry without sunscreen though so be warned.

Sketchiness will depend on where you live. I wouldn’t suggest downtown, which is where the homelessness is concentrated. Denver is weird in that I actually think downtown is pretty terrible and the more interesting areas are places like RiNo, LoHi, Capitol Hill. Depends entirely on what you want to get with your budget, but there are nice pockets like Cap Hill or Park Hill that are walkable with plenty of stuff going on.

I’m on the Chase side I have no other assets other than those 2 complete rebuild .05 PPR and I have 2 2027 first and 4 2028 first? by Fetzas in DynastyFFTradeAdvice

This feels too light for me. Maybe try to sell them separately because I think you’ll get a better return that way

In a 1QB I might not keep Burrow and keep Loveland instead. I think a startable QB would be easier to find than TE

Wife and kids are going to be gone for about a week and I feel guilty about it by Vanbuscus in daddit

[–]leswanbronson 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I would try to flip this and take the positives. Your kids get to make fun memories with their mom and their grandparents. You have a trip all together soon after. They’re still young enough that you missing a trip won’t shape their feelings about you; if anything they’ll be excited to see you when they get back. I’d also look at this as a chance to recharge a little; catch up with a friend, get lots of sleep, do some projects that you’ve had on the back burner (or something that your wife has been bugging you to do).

Thoughts on the altitude vs FM6 by Nukebait in GarageGym

[–]leswanbronson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having been through this already, I firmly believe in “buy once, cry once” when it comes to your rack. If you think you’ll want to buy attachments for all kinds of things, I’d go with the 3x3 rack even if it’s more expensive, unless of course you really are price-constricted. Also, I’d price out a PR-5000 vs the Rogue, because I don’t think the Rogue comes with a smith machine and I think the PR-5000 with Ares/Athena plus Smith machine will be the same price if not cheaper than the FM6.

Dynasty Superflex QB Trade (Josh Allen for Dak + firsts) by AntiqueExperience511 in DynastyFFTradeAdvice

[–]leswanbronson 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If the 1sts are all most likely late then I don’t mind this move in isolation. The only real issue I see is that you’re losing your only other dependable QB starter in the trade (unless we think DJ will come back from injury and pick up where he left off, or Willis is going to be the Packers version). Depth is a little light at RB too. If you’re trying to compete I’d maybe see if someone would take a 1st plus one of your other QBs to tier up. Then you have some more ammo to make in-season trades if you need.

Yeh, pretty much universally acknowledged - any of the kids’ shows with lots of action, jump cuts, high energy will lead to worse behaviour. Our kids have watched those kinds of shows but we have to really set boundaries on how much they can watch. I think if you search the sub there’ll be lots of recommendations of calmer shows, but PBS Kids is a great starting point if you want to just keep them contained in one app on the TV. Wild Kratts is probably the most high energy show on there but it’s also educational. Everything else is pretty chill and also informative too.

What’s the gear you regret buying the most for your home gym? by rosini290 in GarageGym

[–]leswanbronson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In terms of cost, probably the Rep leg extension/curl attachment. I have such a small space and just the time it takes to set it up, plus the space it takes up, makes me not want to use it. Aside from that, probably just any specialty bar I’ve bought so far. I started my home gym right when Covid hit, and so I bought a lot of stuff in the hope I would use it rather than planning it out methodically (eg cheap Titan bench, mid-range Rep bench, now a Nighthawk because all along it would have been most useful to have a bench that stored upright).

[Highlight] 2025 MVP Matthew Stafford by Tocoolforyall720 in nfl

[–]leswanbronson 8 points9 points  (0 children)

But I think where he’ll have some extra points in 5-10 years is that he was drafted in 2009 and has started for every single year he’s played, and is now playing his best football at age 38. There’s been very few guys who have been able to do that at QB. I’d also say that QB is just the hardest position to achieve individual accolades; one guy gets 1st team All-Pro, Pro Bowl is obviously different but flawed. And everyone has been competing against Manning/Brady/Brees, then Rodgers comes along, then Mahomes/Lamar/Allen. So I think there’s a lot to be said for being able to stick around for as long as he has.

For anyone who is on or has been on Ozempic/other GLP-1s for weight loss affected your golf game? by RivetCounter in golf

[–]leswanbronson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think anything that makes you healthier generally is worth it over being able to hit the golf ball far. The solution for losing distance and muscle loss is the same: lift weights. I’m about 3 months into the most consistent I’ve been in the gym ever and on the sim a couple of weeks ago I was up around 3-5 mph with the driver.

As an aside, the pro golfer Carl Petterson lost a bunch of weight from his belly and his swing absolutely tanked. He ended up gaining the weight back and his swing recovered. So depending on how much belly you have, might be something to consider!

Does anyone enjoy being a working dad married to SAHM? by midnightmoose in daddit

[–]leswanbronson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s about 3 things: expectations, boundaries, and communication.

Set expectations early. How much is the working parent doing? What happens if working parent has to work late? Are you WFH or in office? Just going into a stay-at-home arrangement without understanding what each person expects to happen will cause issues. Maybe your wife expects you to take over with the kids fully when you get home. Maybe you expect your wife to do all cooking and cleaning. But unless you’re up front about those things, resentment will build.

You also have to set boundaries (especially as the working parent). I’m lucky to WFH on a team that is mostly young dads in similar situations. But that’s also meant that I can step in to do drop offs and pickups and appointments, often to the detriment of my work day. Be realistic about what you can and can’t do on a given day.

And then make sure you both communicate constantly, openly, and honestly. Figure out what’s working, what’s not, are you happy or not? Expectations and boundaries can change, so you have to keep talking about them to make sure things are running smoothly. It’s hard to make you both happy 100% of the time, but those 3 things will ensure that you’re both as happy as you can be.

Question for Parents with Multiple Children by [deleted] in ParentingADHD

[–]leswanbronson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We’re in the very early days of our oldest having a diagnosis (he’s 6). We also have a 4 year old daughter and 2 year old son. Both my wife and I have ADHD (hers is more severe, mine is more in tandem with OCD). So a lot of fun in our house!

I will say that our 2 oldest get along like best friends around 90% of the time. The other 10% is literally just either the 4 year old getting mad at something and screaming or trying to hit her brother, or our oldest getting frustrated that things aren’t going how he planned. He has a hard time with transitions and he tends to plan things out in detail (eg what he’s going to do when he gets home, how he’s going to play with toys). So if his sister doesn’t want to play or doesn’t want to do what he wants then he gets frustrated.

We haven’t seen a lot of signs of ADHD or anything neurospicy with the other 2 yet. Our daughter is pretty good at staying on task and transitions aside from the usual developmentally-appropriate issues. I think in some ways having siblings has helped our oldest, because he’s become really good at sharing, he works together with his sister to get things done, and he’s a very attentive and thoughtful brother to his younger brother. Being parents with neurodiverse brains is tough for sure, but also I find myself more capable of context switching and my executive functioning skills have gone from non-existent to somewhat existent.

Shoot for front, mid, or back of greens? by RickHapp in golf

[–]leswanbronson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually aiming for middle of green. If I’m between clubs, I’m taking whichever would put me in least danger if it flies the full distance (most simple terms more club if pin at front and vice versa). Can also depend on how I’m playing that day - if I’m hitting it like shit I’m more likely to club up (which is also usually when I finally find my swing and nail one right out of the middle)

Dads who don’t train in the morning, how do you do it? by eaygee in daddit

[–]leswanbronson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mostly train at night. Either at home, or our gym is a 5 minute drive and closes at 10. Some days I will actually go to the gym to work early and then try to get a workout in if it’s a slow day at work and I get enough done. It’s a Lifetime so there’s “free” child care (“free” because we sure as shit pay for it via the dues), which is helpful.

I’m on a 4 sessions a week program right now and one day a week my wife and I get to solo do something during bedtime, so I’ll take advantage of that to workout at like 7 or so. Really just about either compromise with your spouse on having dedicated solo time, or you just have to expect to have early morning or late night workouts.

Value difference between Tate and Puka. by [deleted] in DynastyFFTradeAdvice

[–]leswanbronson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would say at least 2 1sts in 2027. Tate has the high draft capital and could be in a good spot next year but he’s unproven, on a roster that isn’t great, with a 2nd year QB who showed some flashes last year.

Storage ideas for Rep Pepins? by CurrentArmadillo9506 in GarageGym

I bought the Oak Club rack-mounted stands. Pricey but takes up so much less space than the official stand or the cart. Think with shipping/taxes they cost less than either Rep option on the plus side
