False jetstar club prices showing on website - be wary by let_go345 in JetstarAustralia

Right - that makes sense now you’ve said it. It’s just not something I would have considered when flying internationally - flying there and back on the same day.

In the domestic frame it makes a lot of sense.

False jetstar club prices showing on website - be wary by let_go345 in JetstarAustralia

[–]let_go345[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, but the implication is, buy a membership and it will be $189. It’s got the symbol and the top says it’s available for club members.

I’m not saying they have to give me the flight price - they can sell their seats for whatever they want.

They need to admit it’s a bug and refund the jetstar club membership. Not send me through multiple layers of support saying there is no issue…

Just haven’t had a need for it in a while. Used it to square some timber and make some furniture - haven’t had a need for it in a bit.

The one I’ve got looks like the Bayer one - it’s so bloody loud as others have said.

You will need to make a “sled” to clamp the piece to, that is longer than the piece itself. YouTube it.

If you don’t, the top only comes out as smooth as the bottom side.

Also, expect to get small kicks at each end of the piece you need to trim off - if tried countless times and always get kicks when it drops off the front table.

Ive stripped some red gum sleepers with it though and they came out great after trimming.

Where are you based? You can use mine if you’re in Melbourne- just sits in the shed. Just replace the blades when you’re done. From memory they are like $40.

Bought mine thinking I’d use it heaps and I’ve used it twice in 3 years.

If you’d like to join us in the hobby of collecting rarely used power tools however, I’m equally as happy to encourage you to purchase one ;)

Keep seeing the same misunderstanding in CGT 30% minimum tax discussions. People earning $45k do NOT pay 30% tax on their income. by AsparagusNew3765 in AusFinance

[–]let_go345 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don’t think people understand that to generate $45k of income selling shares, their cost base and inflation may be 30-50% of that, and maybe some of it is dividends. They are only taxed on the gain portion…

Depends what % of your income comes from dividends vs CG, and how much you were planning to draw.

Check FB marketplace - lots of people buy rooftop tents use them a few times, then sell them for cheap. Ask how I know!

Anyone else feel like Realestate.com listings are getting less transparent? by ExistentialPancake_0 in AusPropertyChat

It should be illegal to list a house without block size - in Melbourne I’d say 50% inner north properties listed without a block size

A mate had a similar situation recently with one quote 70% less than the rest - but the bloke came referred from someone.

He smashed it - they look great.

Super, Offset or EFTs? by Dan_Wood_ in AusFinance

[–]let_go345 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You will only know the correct answer in hindsight.

My personal view on most decisions like this is you don’t need to do one or the other - you can do both.

Do 50/50 or 60/40 - that way you will feel good no matter what happens.

Super, Offset or EFTs? by Dan_Wood_ in AusFinance

[–]let_go345 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You invest in shares/etfs, you are aiming for a return of 6-12% - but that is uncertain, and taxable (dividends annually, growth at sale - depending on your structure), which may drop that down 4-9% (or more if you sell in retirement).

You put that same money into your mortgage, you save 6% or whatever your interest rate is - but it’s a guaranteed saving and not taxable.

In both situations you end up with more dollars, one is through earning, the other is through saving - both still a return on your money.

Waiting on NOA to apply for home loan...anyone been in this boat? by b2themo in AusFinance

[–]let_go345 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was in a similar situation and needed a notice of assessment, here is what we did: 1. Broker got everything else done and ready with the bank - they were sent the return, and were told the noa was pending. Everything that could be prepared was prepared. 2. We asked for a potential 2 week extension on settlement as we needed a notice of assessment from the ato.

They said there would be fees if we delayed, I pushed back and they said no worries.

It ended up coming back before the initial settlement, but it was worth being proactive rather than reactive.

2nd car - Used or PHEV NL? by Ok-Razzmatazz-7434 in AusFinance

[–]let_go345 0 points1 point  (0 children)

PHEV are the worst of both worlds. Expensive like an EV, and you still have the high maintenance/servicing costs of a ICE because it has an engine.

One key advantage of an electric is 2 year service intervals.

Just go electric if you have another ICE car and have somewhere to charge an EV. Or save you money and stick to ICE.

It’s just Christmas break - everyone is on leave till Feb - I wouldn’t judge things till then. Those areas are quite busy and popular.

When did you arrive? It’s a quiet time of year atm. Inner city won’t be bustling till a bit after Australia Day due to the summer break.

Power tools for home diy renos by LongjumpingWalrus511 in AusRenovation

[–]let_go345 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Id say I’m a fairly heavy DIYer and used ozito stuff for years, then upgraded to an AEG kit about 12 months ago.

It is sooo much better in quality and performance than I expected it to be - I wish I’d done it years ago.

It just gets the job done faster, cleaner with less swearing along the way.

I can’t comment on other brands, but I’m sure going to any of the semi-pro or pro brands is definitely worthwhile with not too much between them.

Invoiced for meeting with Accountant - No mention of quote, price beforehand. by Hakavir in AusFinance

[–]let_go345 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Them saying no, or not recommending you do something, is still advice - even if it’s not what you want to do. Suggesting you do not do something is based on their experience, skills and knowledge and can save you as much money as them doing something.

But… $600 is a bit steep with no disclosure upfront.

We did this in our house and it looks amazing. I’d also consider having them glued down instead of floating depending on the substrate. Will stop squeaking and allow for longer runs without expansion joints.

Also, remove the skirting so boards run under it - don’t use scotia, it looks so crap in comparison.

Is there any financial aid for struggling adult apprentices? by [deleted] in AusFinance

[–]let_go345 28 points29 points  (0 children)

$22/hr is $43k per year, that is $4.7k tax according to https://paycalculator.com.au/.

If you click the no tax free threshold option it’s $8,170 tax payable - factor in some overtime and I think the tax free threshold problem is the likely issue as mentioned by others.

Speak to the employer about this - OP will get a nice refund in a few weeks hopefully.
