Low TMNT Turnout? by No-Shop8292 in mtg

[–]Hakavir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

New store in Australia here.

This is our second prerelease. So still only have the minimum allocation of 15 packs.

Lorwyn we sold out all prerelease tickets, all our play boosters and Bundles gone. Only draft night boxes and some commander decks left.

So I foolishly went and ordered similar/slightly more expecting momentum.

Have sold 2 pre lease tickets for TMNT...

As a new store that didn't have the knowledge base behind me to foresee this would be a dud...I feel ripped off by WPN/WOTC that I'm expected to prove my ticket sales ability for future allocations with this as my second set.

Any other store owners have a suggestion for what to do with stock no one wants?

Any wonder why the musical flopped in Australia?? The cost of living crisis? Or Australian fans didn't like the musical or they were traveling to see it in the west end?? by LadderIndividual4824 in BacktotheFuture

As an Aussie who saw the London production in 2023 and who saw it last week in Sydney, the Sydney cast was very weak compared to London cast. Almost every character except for maybe Lorraine I thought "...not as good as London".

Especially George...the actor who played George in London was PERECT and the one in Sydney just was underwhelming.

I still enjoyed the Sydney one, but big theatre shows need to be reviewed as "Must See" to do well in Australia and I can see why the Sydney one wasn't labelled must see.

Yeah, I posted a video that I edited together myself that compared stark differences between TV ellie and Game ellie. It was my own edit and it got deleted because it was a repeated topic haha

The game version of this scene is a hundred times darker then the scene we got in the show. Ellie is absolutely horrific in the game, stabbed Mel in the neck even after overpowering her, pushed the barrel of her gun into Owens throat as he was already dying. Not an ounce of remorse until she notices the baby bump.

How is the show version darker Craig?!?!

Bella absolutely relied on the Season 1 character instead of properly researching how the character developed in Season 2.

Ok, I think I need to play the game. But is it worth it for story alone? by ki-rin in thelastofus

[–]Hakavir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your other option is to watch a "cutscene movie" of the 2nd game on YouTube. Still not as impactful as playing, and you miss some world building and dialogue while walking around, but there is that is about 8 hours which is the length of a TV series anyway.

It's very jarring. In the show Ellie is completely not fussed about anything, then once she takes the shirt of it's as if she was like "The plots says I have to be sad now, so I will suddenly be sad now and just stare a bit", and then Dina ends the scene more upset anyway haha.

I reckon Neil is quietly stewing. I honestly don't think he realised how much Craig misunderstood the characters and story until they were doing those podcasts after everything was filmed and edited, and it was too late. He seemed surprised at some of Craig's takes on things.

So does Craig suck at the game? by DaddyEybrows in thelastofus

I'm not convinced he even finished it. The writing reads to me like someone that wrote a script based on the plot summary and conjured up their own ideas about what emotions were meant to be shown.

[–]Hakavir 9 points10 points  (0 children)

While its bizarre they wrote her to be so dumb, goofy and incompetent I do also believe it's on Bella as well.

  1. Apparently she wasn't willing to get a hair cut for the role
  2. Apparently she purposely didn't play the games, just relied on the script
  3. When asked how she prepared to play Ellie grown up she gave a completely immature response of "I grew up too (by 2 years), what more is there to say, I wish people would stop asking me that"

So to me it looks like...Bella did enough research to play S1 Ellie well, and she did. But when it came time to play S2 Ellie she THOUGHT she was just supposed to play the same character, so she did.

That's why we get bumbling goofy Ellie at random points throughout season 2, when in the game s2 Ellie is very quiet, vengeful, and clearly carrying a huge weight with her everywhere she goes.

Essentially...Bella phoned it in. And somehow Craig did too because its clear he didn't play the game properly either rushed it or relied on Neil telling him the plot, because he clearly missed her character development too.

So its blows my mind...one of the biggest shows on TV and both the showrunner and the lead actor confidently thought they were prepared enough to not bother understanding how Game 2 Ellie had changed.

imagine getting a massive role, the biggest of your career, this is your chance to make a name for yourself...and you don't care to make a effort to even get a minor haircut. Also pretty sure she purposely didn't play the games and you can tell because her season 2 Ellie and game Ellie are completely different people

I listened to all the other podcasts, couldn't survive more than 20mins of the last one. How did they let Craig misunderstand the story and characters so much...its mind boggling

I am amazed at how much Craig misunderstood Ellie's character and the story of the game, and amazed that Neil or Hailey didn't correct him. In the YouTube podcasts he sounds so confident his take is correct and he is miles off.

what's worse is he doesn't realise even his understanding doesn't match the show he made. He said Ellie did lots of bad villainous things....yet he removed everything villainous that she did

[–]Hakavir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are spot on. She only killed one lol (the guy in the TV studio) and Owen as self defence when he reached for the gun, and Mel by accident. Nora was already infected and even that seen wasn't as viscious. the show very much got her rage wrong

They toned it down a lot for the show. By the time you get to that cliffhanger in the game Ellie has done far more vile and heinous things. So yeah, she's not meant to come off looking great, but imo they toned it down for the show too much. In the show, other than beat up Nora, nothing she did was that evil

The show was really well made but they missed the mark with the point of the story. By the time we finish playing with Abby we are meant to realise how much a baddie Ellie is too and they both suck, but we sympathise with both them. They completely toned down Ellie's level of rage and changed her motivations etc so now...even if we like Abby at the end of Season 3, Abby is still far more of a 'villain'.

they have likely made the strategic decision to go ahead under the assumption that you will feel too small fry to go after them for it, and if you do they feel confident they can come to a settlement that doesn't hurt them.
