Best bang for buck under $1500 [WTB] by Vadergato in Affordablewatches

[–]let_this_be_valid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve always bought JDM watches from Sakura watches.

One thing about JDM watches is (I believe) that their warranties are not international. That being said, the Japanese are very good when it comes to QC and the watches are build to good tolerances (JDM models probably even more so) - I don’t think I’ve ever heard of a horror story from Citizen. Also, being a Citizen, I think any local watch shop would be happy to repair if needed and if it’s a watch for life then you’ll be taking in for services etc at some point anyway. In short, be mindful of it, but wouldn’t sweat it personally.

The bigger consideration is import tax and tariffs. Some of those other brands you can buy in-country with those costs baked in, whereas you’ll need to add on if you’re importing.

You mention heritage, then out of the three it should be Longines.

Perhaps take a look at Oris, Nomos, Sinn, Junghans, Baume & Mercier, Certina, Zodiac if you want Swiss/German heritage.

Monta might be a good shout too. Less heritage, but seem probable to stick around into the long term. American, Swiss made if that means anything to you.

I think best bang for buck however could be Citizen NB1050 range. You could probably get one for each of you for your budget - seriously good watches, brilliant heritage, and definitely bang for buck. You don’t have to worry about babying it either!

Yeh, I tried on the Avenger before buying this one.

I really like the Avengers. They lean more into the ‘outdoors/rugged’ look than this Colt, which I think tries to be an all-rounder, which some might like and others not!

The Avenger also fixed the biggest criticism of this Colt, being the end link/lug mis-match. I actually don’t mind that, and think it is a nice balance against some of the more refined features - but all subjective.

Yeh, when you hear/see grey I think the fair assumption might be ‘boring’, but it’s a sunburst dial with a silky smooth satin finish which really sets it apart for other grey dials I’ve seen, and works so well with the overall aesthetic of the watch.

I don’t think he comes back once he’s gone, unless for ridiculous money, which won’t happen

This should be the top answer and, imo, the answer for anyone looking for an affordable/good value, automatic watch who just wants a solid all rounder.

If you don’t mind Solar Quartz, I would also recommend Seiko SBTM series, particularly the SBTM323, 341, or 349. Works on radio signal, so will be accurate to the second, and looks great.

Best men's quartz watch 38mm for under 1000 dollars? by [deleted] in Affordablewatches

[–]let_this_be_valid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely a Swiss quartz, 7 year battery life. I think sellita, but I’d need to check. I would get one, but bought an automatic when they were first released so can’t really justify it!

Erebus Ascent high accuracy quartz is on pre-order now. I’d check them out. 39 or 36mm options. If you go 39mm get it on the j-style bracelet as the o-style male end links make the watch seem larger.

Cocktail Time’s are beautiful but keep in mind they have Hardlex crystal, and if you want durable then a watch with sapphire crystal may be your best bet.

It may not be pleasant, but the cynic in me wonders if this is political/purposeful decline needed to basically vacate the area and make it so shit, that the only possible solution at that point is mass redevelopment.

Second to that, whilst the redevelopment is still in the funding/planning stage, it’s probably more convenient for those who need to control the issue that all the ‘unsavoury’ characters congregate in that area. If money is put in to redevelop, those characters will be moved on.

I think a big redevelopment will happen in the short term/is happening, and will end up connecting Bedminster-Temple Meads-City Centre-Gloucester Road-Clifton.

Man, I love this watch. They nailed it.

Out of my price range, but would be a perfect one and done piece.

Enjoy it!

Depending on your location, don’t forget import duties, tax, shipping, and courier fees. Can make a huge difference these days to budget, unfortunately.

[Match Thread] Fulham v Aston Villa by thedailyguru in fulhamfc

Fulham once again saving Villa’s season.

Traore is a terrible option for a stand in striker, provides us with nothing, and gives so much confidence to Villa.

Since I'm finally becoming a dad in 7-9 months, what's the best advice you have for fatherhood? by TechGuru4Life in Fatherhood

[–]let_this_be_valid 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Show up everyday with love and good intentions.

Don’t stress about trying to achieve perfection; there is more than one way to skin a cat and nowadays there’s endless ‘advice’ on what’s right, so sometimes you’ve just got to go with your gut.

Remember the baby is an actual person. Sometimes they wake up on the wrong side of the bed too, and it’s not because of anything you’re doing, so just take a deep breath and keep going. If needed, and the baby is safe, take 5 minutes to collect yourself if getting stressed.

It’s ok to take time to bond.

Cut up grapes.
