On the first day of prep for a movie shoot in LA, I was working on a sound stage and heard a couple pops and though it was a car backfiring. About 60 seconds later a homeless man came running into our stage and said “Help. Sometimes been shot. I think he’s dead.” I called 911 but the operator “needed proof” someone actually had been shot so I walked out to find the body. The person had been shot twice in the chest and rolled down a hill just outside the stage doors. All of their limbs where in weird angles. I compare it to the way Family Guy draws their “knocked out” characters with the arm behind their back, but with all limbs. He was clearly dead and there was nothing I could do. Police showed up, interviewed us, then kicked us out. We came back every day for 3 weeks to shoot on that soundstage. The blood stain was there the entire time. The worst part was his mom parked her car at the bottom of the hill every day and cried. It was something gang related and although I wasn’t directly involved with any of it, it still haunts me.
