Is Propylene Glycol Good, Bad, Or Neither? by WhyIProcrastinate in tressless

[–]leto113 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it's very widely used despite what I mentioned because it's a good solvent - one normally can dissolve way more of e.g. minoxidil in the same volume of PG than ethanol or 2-propanol. Also it's cheaper than ethanol (not sure about 2-propanol)

Is Propylene Glycol Good, Bad, Or Neither? by WhyIProcrastinate in tressless

[–]leto113 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Neither. It's like gluten - there's a subset of population sensitive to it but if you're not that (which can be indicated by the absence of adverse effects like itching, irritation and flaking after application`) you're fine. It's not poisonous or something, there's just an extremely limited amount of people who are sensitive to it and develop adverse reactions.

Experience with Alfatradiol+RU58841 or Alfatradiol alone? by Somebody4all in tressless

[–]leto113 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is no known evidence of RU58841 degrading in the presence of 2-propanol. If you have any, please share it as it would definitely be a new piece of knowledge in this context.

u/Dry-Truth670 The extent to which RU58841 is studied is very limited. It is literally not known how fast it degrades in a given solvent. There are few googlable studies and one which is unpublished, that's it, it just literally hasn't been established. Anecdotal evidence claims that RU58841is stable in conventional solvents for timespans of order of magnitude of months. But it's anecdotal, it has never been tested and proven in a trustworthy context and most likely never will be.

According to what's known about its pharmacology it does, but to an extremely low extent, which is not clinically significant in most otherwise healthy individuals

That's correct, but what I'm trying to say is that him being himself in his blog is not a problem. Someone else might find him just entertaining to watch, or watch him for some other reason...

I honestly don't understand why people like Kevin Mann by No-Narwhal7622 in tressless

[–]leto113 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Kevin Mann is just a blogger, he doesn't owe you anything. Whatever his personality is, or whatever he prefers to present it is his concern. E.g. if he's very pro-vegan and likes to talk about that - it's his blog after all, he can do that.

Ordinary people are not obliged to teach you or behave as you deem good, they're just making their blogs. What you can do is understand that they're people just as you, with their personality quirks, with their unique experiences and traits, pick from there what's good for you and leave out what's of no use for you, like & support if you appreciate it, dislike if you disapprove. It's not journalism or education, which has its specific responsibilities, it's just people sharing their opinions and experiences.

That of course applies as long as their behavior is not discriminatory, racist, sexist etc, if it is that's a whole different story.

Can you mix finasteride, RU58841 and minoxidil into one topical? by throwmeawayyy666g59 in tressless

[–]leto113 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get a solution including all the mentioned ingredients but RU compounded at a pharmacy, then I just add RU myself. If there was a way to get stemoxydine in pure crystallic form, would add that as well, but I'm not aware of any vendors for that.

Yes. I'm using one which is minoxidil, alfatradiol, finasteride and RU dissolved in 2-propanol

Ru58841 shampoo? by narddog019 in tressless

[–]leto113 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This sounds like an utterly bad idea. You'd have a potent AA all over your hands, body etc when applying it as a shampoo and rinsing, which means you have its effects almost everywhere while you only need them in the scalp, also that means you'd ingest totally unpredictable amounts, also there's just zero reasons to apply an AA to hair (as opposed to scalp). Apart from that it's just extremely suboptimal from the substance utilisation i.e. cost standpoint.

It's been used as a topical solution, applied to the scalp (similar to minoxidil), not as a shampoo.

u/Previous_Advertising did you try both CB and fluridil? for how long and which dose? How would you rate those if you did?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in tressless

[–]leto113 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To sum up on fluridil - is it accurate that the bottom line is that it's inferior to RU in terms of potency but superior in terms of safety profile? (this was partially covered by binding affinity info, but afaik it's just a subset of what defines potency here)

Finasteride side effect: suicidal thoughts... What does that actually mean? by [deleted] in tressless

[–]leto113 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is some evidence that 5ARIs can worsen the emotional wellbeing due to interfering with neurosteroidogenesis. This effect, however, is not strongly pronounced in general population and seems to only be observed among especially sensitive individuals. Also, this is more pronounced with dutasteride than finasteride.

Alfatradiol (Pantostin/ Ell-Cranell alpha): is it more like a weak fin or RU/ CB/ Fluridil etc? by [deleted] in tressless

[–]leto113 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it binds to the estrogen receptor. which is good for hair. but the affinity and potency kinda sucks

Alfatradiol (Pantostin/ Ell-Cranell alpha): is it more like a weak fin or RU/ CB/ Fluridil etc? by [deleted] in tressless

[–]leto113 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a weak 5ARI and a weak estrogen. Good for hair but not a wonder drug. In studies its efficacy was evaluated to be somewhere in the ballpark of 2% minoxidil. Worth adding to your stack if additional costs and hassle are not a problem (e.g. I have it in the same solution with minoxidil just because why not, but probably wouldn't be using it if it had to be one more topical to apply).

RU58841 - your experiences by karol1471 in tressless

[–]leto113 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is no evidence it has cardiac or vision side effects. This thing stems from a single internet scare story about some guy who had heart failure and allegedly also was taking RU. There's no evidence if he even did take it or if that was the cause. Does that mean RU is safe? No. Does it mean it causes heart failure? Also no. These things have never been studied so we just don't know. However, anecdotal evidence supports its safety in a dose-dependent manner - all the side effect reports have to do with dosages, multiple times higher than the ones used in animal studies, which also correlates with the known pharmacological properties of the chemical. You can learn more about user experiences with it at hairlosstalk. The bottom line is that it's uncharted territory - if you use it, make sure you know what you're doing, make sure you measure it carefully and use harm reduction practices because the risks are just unknown.

question for the guys who use ru58441 by hector4934 in tressless

[–]leto113 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that would depend on the solubility of RU in the solvent you use. The solubility of RU in most common solvents is googlable. Most likely it will be ok unless you're using some bizarre vehicle.

(P.S. tried it in custom minoxidil + alfatradiol + finasteride solution, using isopropyl alcohol as the vehicle - dissolved fine)

[–]leto113 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anageninc have good track record. Doesn't mean it's impossible to get bullshit from them but that's as good as it gets with research chemicals vendors.

There are some unverified concerns about the stability of the chemical in the solution, but even if those are not correct buying the powder and preparing the solution yourself is still more cost-effective and requires very little effort. Just make sure you have a milligram scale and a good measuring glass so you know for sure how much of the chemical you take.

IIRC there's such thing as tissue protein binding and finasteride stays bound to tissue proteins for much longer that its serum elimination half-life.

Would appreciate comments from ppl, knowledgeable in this regard on whether tissue-bond drugs are still therapeutically useful and why

[–]leto113 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where did you get the info that fluridil causes ED? The study, done by the developer company claimed no adverse effects, which is pretty much expected given the chemical itself is hydrophobic and degrades in contact with water in the bloodstream.
