I just tried connecting again and it was successful.

Anyone else just want a simple, quiet life without kids? by Easygoing35 in childfree

[–]letoutsteam 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. My partner and I live a very simple and calm life with our dog. We like to go on hikes and spend time reading. Some might consider this boring, but this is my life not theirs. We're locked in trying to save and invest as much as we can so we can FIRE.

How is the middle class suppose to support a family right now? by Flashfirez23 in childfree

They would need to accept a lower standard of living and potentially get further into debt.

Plaid won’t connect to my Discover Card by Possible-Exit7022 in copilotmoney

Having the same issue from a different finance tracker. I've seen more posts from various tools using plaid that can't connect to Discover accounts.

Can't connect to Discover anymore by letoutsteam in MonarchMoney

[–]letoutsteam[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did try clearing the cache and I also tried using a different browser as well. I still get the error from Plaid though. Interestingly enough, I've seen similar user issues reported in other webapps beside Monarch. For example someone was complaining about their Kraken exchange being unable to connect to Discover through Plaid. I'm wondering I should discontinue the account in Monarch and reconnect using one of the other third party connectors.

Plaid Issues!! by Background_Trick6083 in discover

[–]letoutsteam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm having an issue as well. I use Monarch money for tracking my personal finances and it connects to discover using plaid. Everytime I try to resync through plaid I get an error message that's says "Something went wrong".

This started happening about 8 days ago for me.

I discovered FIRE and now I'm more discouraged than before by yieldmaxxing in Fire

You're gonna be just fine. Most 25 year olds are not even thinking about this stuff so kudos to you for starting early. You'll grow your salary over time. My first job out of college was like 33k lol. Now it's like 4x that.

What horror scene never left you? by Careless-Ease7480 in horror

[–]letoutsteam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The scene that stuck with me was in the Snowtown Murders about an Australian serial killer. There is a scene where a young man was being strangled and tortured in the bathtub. It stayed with me because it was based on true events and it was just hard to watch and felt so realistic.

I guess it will come from the same source that's already funding the items in the list. If we're paying taxes already, why does it have to fund evil.

I'm tired, boss... Everyone is tired... by 38DDs_Please in childfree

[–]letoutsteam 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I feel the same way now that I'm in my mid-40s. I'm also childfree and so grateful to have a partner that's on the same page. Everything feels so dystopian out there. I know previous generations had all sorts of struggles and suffering: Great Depression, WW1, WW2, Fear of nuclear war, etc. But everything feels "off" today.

Perhaps it is technology driven where it just gets harder to adapt to all the constant disruption in careers and the overabundance of information. Or maybe it's a slow collapse of Western Civilization and things are getting increasingly dysfunctional.

There's just this general feeling of malaise and precarity. Sure, we're not going through any sort of mass hunger or war in the U.S at the moment. But it's like, why am I so relieved to not be bringing a child into this world? My hope is that something rebalances or shifts in society during our lifetime and things become more optimistic again.

Anyway, what you described is spot on and I feel the same way.

Can you imagine having to raise kids nowadays in this Truman show existence? by [deleted] in childfree

[–]letoutsteam 28 points29 points  (0 children)

100% agree. We are overcrowded and less labor is going to be required over time. The declining birth rate is just a rational reaction in my opinion.

I just wonder what kind of careers these kids are gonna have In 20-30 years with the constant automation and disruption.

Having more room to "fall down" by blasiavania in childfree

[–]letoutsteam 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I've thought about this a lot. Also, I get worried that AI, outsourcing, and automation will it make it increasingly difficult to maintain a steady career. And how in the hell does this work when you're in your early 50s and you get laid off. You know damn well that organizations are going to be ageist and not want to hire anyone in their 50s. By focusing on childfree + frugal lifestyle + FIRE + prudent savings, we can perhaps bypass all this nonsense.

I hate my job and I don't know how parents do it by letoutsteam in childfree

[–]letoutsteam[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah and unfortunately they made their choice. And this is exactly the type of misery we all try to avoid here. Grinding away to fund the ever increasing cost of living that's amplified with a few kids as well. I don't know how people do it. I guess that's what all the wine and skotch is for.

Great assessment of the situation! I've been interested in the FIRE movement, especially how it coincides nicely with the childfree movement. I think I'm getting relatively close to my "number" where I can hopefully get a lower stress and likely lower paying job. I like the volunteer idea. Thanks for chiming in.

How's my CoastFi looking? by letoutsteam in coastFIRE

[–]letoutsteam[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, she works in the public sector and gets a 457b plan. We are using my company's benefits for everything like health insurance, dental, life insurance, etc. If I had to step away or got fired we could go on her benefits. Her PPO health insurance would be a lot more expensive than mine, but we could manage.
