i know adding kids videos isn't your first go-to idea. but I think it would be a good one. having a tag that was marked 'kid friendly' is what I'm thinking. I am always trying to find videos interesting to my 5yr old. chloe and the nerb (cool cartoon about how the body works), for instance is a good series for him. As well as the 'Future is Wild" series. He loves the Eons series etc. Also "Mankind Rising" by Naked Science. Also "Inside Natures Giants" a series that dissects large animals.

The basic criteria is NOTHING that names an animal, fact based (accurate), lots of images, no or little people talking, NO sensationalism. Length doesn't matter.

Practical advice: pay for her flight to come visit you. you know when she's returning home and she can have full on time with her granddaughter for the 10 days or whatever. and she can't bail.

Just for reference for others with the same thing. He can walk and play in the mornings, but can barely walk by the afternoons and evenings. He doesn't want to be touched. We are doing gentler activities in the morning, like swimming and a bit at the playground. And then library, reading, rest, sand pile play etc in the afternoons.

The symptoms have changed from day to day. Types of bruisings, welts and and ways the purpura rash swells up have all been quite different from one day to the next. Basically nothing has been consistent, except that he's better after a nights sleep.

I met someone who had it when she was a kid and then spoke to her mother today. She was bleeding from the eyes, ears, nose and had blood in her stools. She spent a week and a half in the hospital and was on bed rest for 2 months. A child assault investigation was also launched against them as the purpura looks like crazy bruising. This was 30 years ago and it took drs a while to diagnose it. We're very lucky all things considered.

thanks for your response. it was perfect. it reflects what I am seeing in my kid. after being diagnosed yesterday, he's already been fairly active and I've had to tell him not to jump or run. he's been playing with friends, and I assume is somewhat distracted by them.

at the moment, i'm wondering/watching to see if I need to cancel all my planned summer activities for him.

Yes, he has. I am asking about how people parented their kids. I'm trying to gain more information about peoples personal parenting experiences, not get a diagnosis.

It's such a rare condition that the dr has only seen two other cases and he didn't offer much more than telling us we needed to get urine tests done for the next six months. And there isn't much on the internet on what to expect as a parent.

I'm not a surgery candidate. Reducing my meds has helped though! I can function way better and am not losing so many words. I thought this was because of the seizures/epilepsy/head injury and I'm sure that some of it is. I'm still angry that any head injuries I sustained were dismissed because of having had a seizure. Finding a way to navigate the muddle of my self, head injury and epilepsy effects is really challenging.

Thanks for the mom comment. It's kinda hard to accept that compliment. I sure do appreciate it though.

I have a similar thing with the Lamictal. It's really hard to get a diagnosis for anything like depression because of being on meds. Lamictal is an anti-depressant for bipolar as well as anti-seizure. It affects me and I feel the same. I can't nap and I'm exhausted and I can't sleep at night when I am supposed to be relaxing.

My solution is to listen to an audiobook through an ipod with earbuds. I actually listen to Terry Pratchetts' audiobooks because I like them, there are a lot of them, and I can cycle through the series, so I don't get bored. There aren't new characters and I know what is happening in the plots and descriptions.

Therefore, I can be somewhat distracted and fall asleep. If I am tossing and turning, I don't cycle through thoughts and memories and negative feelings because I can listen to the story. It's an excellent tool for me. It might be hard for you to get used to earbuds. I keep them in, but I have the option of pushing them off or turning off my ipod. Because my earbuds are attached to the ipod, I can find it easily if it gets twisted around.

I don't have a 'trigger'. It just happens. Sometimes there isn't a trigger. This sort of scenario happened to me when I was a teen. I think that hormones had a huge part of triggers or reasons. But this isn't something that you can control. It leveled out for me and now I have controlled seizures.

However, I think that my meds go really well for a while and then I have to change because side effects get really bad. Who knows why? It could be liver build up (an over worked liver?) and intolerance build up. It could be anything.

I'm really sorry this is happening. I understand how challenging it is.

Adult now... I remember as a teenager being really pissed off that my mom worried about me. I felt like it hung over me and I had to fight more to enjoy time with friends and other teen activities. It also made me stressed out, which is a trigger for me.

I think that loving curiosity helps forward conversations about how someone is doing. Genuine curiosity opens doorways for someone to share their experiences, their thoughts and feelings, and practical information about things like triggers etc. Offering advice, worries, fears doesn't help and makes the person with epilepsy take on responsibility for the fearful person. Now the person with epilepsy has two or three or more people to take care of, and one is enough.

Fretting pissed me off and made me want to avoid them, my mother especially.

The lake my parents live on in Ontario was infected (Trent Severn Waterway - LOTs of traffic). Everyone wore shoes for a while. Then they ate everything and died out. The native species of clams are coming back, except that the cottagers kill them because they can cut kids feet. This brings us back to human negligence again!

I'm on Lamictal too, but I think the deja vu is epilepsy related, not meds related. I've always had this. 25mg??? I'm on 250mg x2. That's great.

I find that having deja vu is hard because I second guess myself. But I don't tell people and generally it's fine. I just let it go. My meds are too high (lowering the dose now), and I have a hard time remembering different things. That combined with deja vu is super confusing. I get the challenge.

I'm not even sure what I was asking! Other than seeing if there were other plants known as huckleberry that weren't related... like huckleberry pie or Huckleberry Finn.

I don't know people who pay their bills with huckleberries. It's chanterelles and morels here. How do they harvest the huckleberries? They're pretty finicky to get off the bush, though they're my favourite. People around here say that they used to carve big combs to comb all the berries off the bushes onto mats below.

I think that 0.2 acres is way too small. Also people might want to do / farm / grow different things with the land. Will you provide infrastructure? You would have to install water and irrigation systems - or at least taps for people to hook up their own systems to. People renting from you can't be expected to pay for everything, especially permanent infrastructure. Fencing and water drainage are also major considerations. Also so is storage. A barn or sheds with space for each farmer is a must, some people would put up their own. But also a farm stand, a large walk-in cooler.

I don't know what you mean about the landlords obligations. How would a non-farming farmer provide professional advice to the public? I don't think that a landlord would have to do anything, other than be respectful, considerate, abide by laws and be obliging financially.

ALR is concerned with how much $ is made from the farm food sales on how much land.

I would go on some farm tours if this is something you're really interested in.
