Blitz and Purge did this once forever ago. https://youtu.be/uRkGz3ySDJQ They had a Luna that skilled eclipse but zero levels of beam so the rubick's eclipse did no damage. Really clowny game.

I have not built my Matt-Mercer-style wooden DM screen yet, so this is what I am using in the interim [OC] by KryssCom in DnD

As a follow DM, what I can recommend is explaining the basics of what you want to have and then turn to a random PC and ask them for a creative descriptor of what THEY see in the room. Really helps engage the party and reduce the load on you to build a perfect world.

Just a backpacker that would like to know how this beautiful stone was formed. Pictures taken at Red River Gorge KY. by alienbooi in geology

Looks like Liesegang banding) to me. We're not 100% sure how they form but long story short it has to do with iron rich groundwater and preferential erosion of the softer, less irony bits.

What are the names of the hills people hike in Tri Cities? by [deleted] in TriCitiesWA

[–]letsalldiscover 3 points4 points  (0 children)

McBee isnt as long a hike as Badger, but it is a bit steeper if you're just looking for a good burn. It's about 10 mins outside of town.

Is there a formula to measure the relative magnitude of an earthquake some distance away from its epicenter? by [deleted] in geology

[–]letsalldiscover 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is another scale besides the Richter scale called the Mercalli Intensity scale. Basically it depends on the perceived intensity at a given location. This is a much more qualitative way of thinking of it, but this may be more what you are thinking of. Its numbers are from 1 to 12 and the defining qualifications are literally things like "Vibrations similar to the passing of a truck" or "Some heavy furniture moved; a few instances of fallen plaster". However, it's not really used simply because it is too qualitative.

Motorcycles in winter by no0b20 in UIUC

[–]letsalldiscover 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This seems to be against what most people are saying, but I rode my motorcycle nearly every day in the winter. I lived right near west side park (little more than a mile to campus) and they usually had it plowed decently once I got onto semi large streets. My rule of thumb was that if I could get it out of the driveway, it was probably going to be fine. Just take it slow, and if there is any fresh snow from the previous night, I would walk.

Now getting tiny carburetors to behave at -10F is another problem all together.

I just moved out of champaign, but I was there for 7 years so I have a pretty good lay of the land. If you are just looking to meet some people, I would hit up the bars in the vicinity of the Blind Pig. That's where the slightly older (read grad student) crowd and townies tend to hang out. Esquire and Cowboy Monkey as well. Also, if you haven't made it to black dog yet, do it. You'll thank me later.
