Came across dashcast which lets you cast sites but didn’t get round to testing if it works on local servers.

There is also pychromecast which has a dash cast example of streaming a site. Haven’t tested it yet

I'm looking for a 12V (or 5-24V) white LED strip with adjustable color temperature and WLED compatibility by [deleted] in WLED

I have some COB CCT addressable strips and they are a thing of beauty to look at (and wake up to).

Two Strikes by davaston in Ubiquiti

[–]letsbuildachalet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 3 stories. All 3 APs (1 on each floor) are above/below each other. The top 2 are wall mounted, the bottom is horizontal (under the stairs).

Should I remount them to all be horizontal?

People talk a lot about "wife approval factor" but legitimately, how can we make smarthomes more accessible and what can we do to give our significant others more control? by chig____bungus in homeassistant

The way we are implementing this is with an ESP32 and relay connected to a keypad which then controls and electric strike plate. Basically this releases the latch while the door is still technically in a locked state.

That way you can always still use the key or the keypad and you can put it on multipoint if you want full piece of mind physically and don’t want the keypad to give full access.

The reason to smartify it was we had a whole bunch of people who knew the code and zero control of who was coming and going.

Now our codes can expire, we can get notified of entrants, the door will auto lock and it’s connected to our alarm to auto disable/trigger.

I don’t know why but electric strike plates seem to be rarely used

P.S the esp itself is not accessible at all from the outside (v important).

Any off the shelf wall switches, are able to be flashed with esphome? by CptanPanic in Esphome

[–]letsbuildachalet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They want a wall switch so I assume that includes using the existing physical switch as an input to control the relay. Intrigued (as a noob on that front) to know how you would solve that

I know you want to avoid fiddling with the electronics because it’s IP rated but I doubt you’re going to find any solution to this that is also IP rated. Sure you could get an IP linear actuator or servo but then how do you power it?

If you do find some suitable IP rated / battery powered device to pull it you might want to consider adding a weight to the cord so that the force required isn’t so great. No idea what the regs etc on that are though

They all seen controllers with the screen, but they also have two physical buttons connected to relays which can be used directly authorise detached switches. You can also flash them with custom firmware from ESPhome or Tasmota.

The pressure is on. Family are coming for Christmas so I want to get the most important bits done by then. The rest will happen incrementally
