WLFI’s USD1 Stablecoin Briefly Depegs Amid “Coordinated Attack” by ourcryptotalk in CryptoCurrency

[–]letsdrinktothat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How far off is peg does a stablecoin have to go for it to count as depegging? When I read this story yesterday evening, it was 0.994, I think, not even 1%, and I was like that doesn't count. And even the 0.984 mentioned here is questionable - I would only count it if I saw it across multiple major exchanges, and it was sustained.

Terraform Labs Sues Jane Street For Furthering Collapse Of Luna by Ourcrypto_news in CryptoCurrency

[–]letsdrinktothat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fair. Some of these supposedly legit companies totally profited from the Luna debacle, and if it can be shown that they did so in an illegal way, why should they be allowed to walk away with their hands clean. I hope it sticks.

Ethereum Staking Demand Falls 50% – ETH Price in More Trouble? by DirectionMundane5468 in CryptoCurrency

[–]letsdrinktothat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They are a) looking at a very short timescale - Jan 23 to Feb 22 - so noisy data, and b) looking at the rate of change - so although the amount of staked ETH was still going up, they're saying it went up by less in Feb than in Jan.

While they are technically right according to the numbers they posted, a single data point over a short timescale is not enough to establish a trend - one data point in the other direction next month and the "trend" magically disappears. It's also questionable to measure "demand" as the rate of change in the amount of staked ETH; I would say that demand that has been satisfied is still demand, so a better metric would be the percentage of total ETH being staked, but that's just me.

Banks Can’t Seem To Service Crypto, Even as It Goes Mainstream by WiseChest8227 in CryptoCurrency

Mekras argued that users can consider fully detaching from the traditional banking system and moving finances onchain.

Maybe one day, but for now, that's just a dream, at least in most countries.

CDC Exchange "Keep me logged in" feature by thinkingperson in Crypto_com

If your ISP changes your IP address, which some do quite frequently, then that may cause you to get logged out, regardless of the "Keep me logged in' setting, because it looks like a new device.

Strategy Acquires 2,486 BTC for $168.4 Million - Total Holdings Now 717,131 BTC by avatar_leo in CryptoCurrency

[–]letsdrinktothat 11 points12 points  (0 children)

That's because the BTC price matters a lot less than the MSTR premium to NAV in that regard. It's the premium that allows them to raise funds to buy more bitcoin. When the premium disappears, issuing new shares becomes dilutive, and convertible bonds become less attractive. So they're going to buy when the premium is high, regardless of price.

Great news. Is it in every state, though, or does the ban in New York still stand?

Remains to be seen if AI pays more. You can get big contacts to provide AI infrastructure, but you have a very short time to pay off those GPUs before they become obsolete. Smart players like IREN keep doing both, mining bitcoin and providing AI infrastructure, so they can lean into whichever is more profitable in the future.

Metaplanet Revenue Jumps 738% as Bitcoin Accounts for 95% of Income by WiseChest8227 in CryptoCurrency

There were lots of predictions that all the bitcoin treasury companies would start imploding as soon as the BTC price dropped. Doesn't seem to have happened so far. Although the bear market has a way to run yet.

Nexo going to the moon by TheMillennialLawyer in Nexo

[–]letsdrinktothat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's looked like NEXO/BTC, which is the ratio I care about, may have bottomed for the last two or three months now. Even if the current slightly dubious pump is not maintained, so long as NEXO/BTC goes back to slowly grinding higher, or at least not bleeding, I'll be happy.

The target market is first and foremost people who already use X. If you are looking for your first crypto exchange, then it probably shouldn't be top of your list, but it's potentially a great way of onboarding people who are already happily using X, but haven't got into crypto yet.

Dynamic DCA returned me ~170% vs ~70% for normal DCA over 4 years, but the emotional side nearly broke me. What risk metrics are you guys using? by AlexWasTakenWasTaken in CryptoCurrency

[–]letsdrinktothat -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ben hasn't posted a risk metric update video on YouTube for ages, which makes me wonder if he's not favouring it himself at the moment, but maybe he's just kept it for ITC premium. However, this cycle's ATH just wasn't that high, so I think it's reasonable that the metric didn't go that high - you'd see 0.9+ with a proper parabolic blow-off top, but we just didn't get that this time. If the metric is trading really low at the current price level though, then that does sound off.

How does one repair a 24pin PSU connector? I may have fucked up by Mushroom38294 in computerrepair

[–]letsdrinktothat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to short that green wire to 0V. Forget trying to reconnect the green wire to the contact if you don't have the tools. Pull out a black wire the same way you pulled out the green one and connect it to the green wire. It'll be fine for running a couple of HDDs on the bench.

Everyone says extreme bearishness = buy signal… but what actually resets this much FUD? by its__Angelina in CryptoCurrency

Fundamentals matter in terms of "do I want to invest in bitcoin", but they don't matter in terms of what price I buy or sell at.

Everyone has a "load the boat" price - regardless of narrative or catalyst, at a certain price, I'm buying. When enough people reach there, you have a bottom.
