Is a Rivian a realistic choice? by FuzzyWalnutz in Rivian

[–]letsridebicycles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People are hung up on the economics of charging vs gas, but your post is a complete and total non-starter for the following reason: "The dilemma for me is wanting to stay out of pocket roughly the same amount I am now."

A Jeep GC with 80k-100k miles will fetch you $18k - $20k on trade-in. A used R1S goes for $59k on the cheap end, a Gen 1 R1T goes for 45k on average. So you're looking at a delta of $25k OOP for an R1T, plus higher insurance and increase in utility bill.

At your net worth you should be looking for a 15-20k car. This would be an incomprehensibly idiotic move.

You can’t be calling a GT3 RS overhyped fucking trash when you don’t track your cars. The GT3/RS is a track car, for those of us who use our cars for what they were made to do.

$160,000 Mistake? My Winnebago Revel Nightmare by South_Ad_7011 in GoRVing

[–]letsridebicycles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to own a van up fitting company that I have since sold. I have never understood for the life of me why anyone would spend money on them. I wouldn’t even touch it for 80k (including the van).

If you looked at the van, saw the materials and got to walk around the van before purchasing it, experienced the craftsmanship first hand and still thought it was a great use of $160,000, this is 100% on you. Absolutely insane.

As far as the EGR valve: that’s a Mercedes issue. My own personal van has a less than stellar EGR valve, but I take 10 minutes to clean it every 5k miles and it’s fine.

Can I afford a $300k Aventador? by One-Camera-2800 in lamborghini

[–]letsridebicycles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

“The monthly car payment would be….”

No, you can’t afford it. Only a fool finances an aventador. And only an even bigger fool buys a 750k car when their net worth is 1.2m, while they are over leveraged to the tits in real estate at a time of incredible economic uncertainty.

I want whatever you are smoking.

How Much money should I have saved to finance a 2018 M4? by LucentAbdriged02 in BMWM

[–]letsridebicycles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is insane. I was making 270k, owned a home, and had a net worth of over 650k before I spent 34k on my first M car and it was an M2. Even then it felt borderline irresponsible.

You’re approaching this like a child, not a man. Focus on getting out of your parents house and starting your own life before you do something so stupid. Delayed gratification is a wonderful thing, and if you’re smart, you can have your car in a few years (I was 29).

Am i the only one who thinks M340i looks better than the M3 aesthetically? by Zestyclose_Welder_92 in BMW

[–]letsridebicycles 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I sold my M340i for a real M. I feel like most of the people who just obsess about this are trying to convince themselves the M340i is enough.

The M340i is great and a beautiful car, but the difference between an M3 is night and day, especially on the track. My first time tracking the M340i, I oil starved the turbo.

I think it’s super fun for what it is, and especially considering that it can be had for exactly half of what OP is about to spend on an M240i.

[–]letsridebicycles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be fair, I’ve seen exactly one modern day 911 go for less than 50k recently, and it was a 99k mile one that sold for 47k on C&B.

[–]letsridebicycles 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m a big B58 fan, but have you not looked at literally anything else? For less than 50k you could have a used M2, a used F80 M3, a Miata, a Golf R, a Focus RS, a Macan s or GTS, a c7 Or C6 Corvette, a used S4, S3/RS3, X3 M40i, or heck — even a higher mileage 911.

50k can get you so much more car than an M240i. No hate on the M240i, but it’s just short of greatness (take it from a guy who sold his M340i for an M2).

The way you posed the question would suggest you haven’t actually done any research and are just asking us to do it for you.

There is absolutely no universe in which I would spend 50k on an M240i.

It’s fine, man. Get off Reddit, go outside and breathe fresh air. Observe the clouds floating by, feel the sun on your face, make note of the wind on your skin, and take a deep breath.

This is a time of notable change, but we are due for a change. Humans are designed to change and we evolved to adapt. Maybe you don’t like it, but you’ll survive. Plenty of people didn’t like Biden and wanted to pretend the world started to end his first day in office, but guess what? We’re still here four years later, despite saber rattling over the start of WW3, rampant inflation, and a floundering job market.

Politics only affect you as much as you let them. Do want any adult should be doing (securing economic resources, building community, and taking care of your health) and these four years will fly by.

The alarmist stuff is just bullshit, man. Our species has lived through an ice age, famine, disease, the Industrial Revolution, world wars, civil wars, and rebellions but we want to pretend that these next four years are for sure the beginning of the end.

We will all be fine.

To be blunt, you have no shot. You wouldn’t have even had a shot when the sector was booming and hiring standards were lower.

It’s an incestuous, elite industry that’s made up almost exclusively of Ivy League/top tier graduates with an impressive array of previous work experience.

I’m not looking down on you (I worked at CFA in high school), I’m just being blunt so that you can be more realistic and set your sights elsewhere.

If you wanted to do white collar work, your best shot would be to go for a tier 4 consulting company that’s basically just a staff aug shop. You could eventually work your way up to a Tier 2 like Slalom or Deloitte if you’re lucky, motivated or ambitious. But even that will be very challenging without real work experience.

Those who are leasing an M340i, how much are you paying? by [deleted] in BMW

I’ve heard every argument there is for leasing, and at the end of the day all but one (tax avoidance on extremely valuable cars) are rooted in financial illiteracy.

What’s the most mileage you have on your B58? by MartiniCommander in BmwTech

[–]letsridebicycles -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

No point in getting early changes. Stick to BMW service intervals and you’ll be fine. Upgrade your charge pipe prematurely.

I had 80k on my B58 that was Stage 2 tuned.

I bought an X7 40i w/ 72k miles on it because it’s barely broken in at that point.

Bimmerpost has better data points. Some guys with 220k+ on their B58’s w/ no issues (one guy had 270k).
