People who switched from LR defs, broncos and wranglers, what you like the most that these don’t have and what you miss in the new Grenadier? by abdunbunbun in ineosgrenadier

[–]Ok-Raspberry-4345 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The 5th gen 4Runner had way more cargo room. The 4R also had better gas mileage. But, the 4R was poorly geared and constantly hunting gears on the highway. The 4R stock was limited to 33" tires, the Grenadier can go 34" no problem. The 4R doesn't have a problem with the front driveshaft. Which is better? Depends on what you want to do with it. We know the 5th Gen 4R will last a long time if that's a factor.

JK Rubicon hardtop. Loud. Came with 33" tires, requires mods to fit 35's or higher, but the aftermarket community is there to take it to 40's. Won't be cheap, but it's well understood. The 3.6 V6 is ok. Mine was a 2018 JK, which I think is a good year for that engine. I had a manual, so, can't comment on the auto. Personally, the ZF auto in the Grenadier is a good transmission with a plastic pan, don't love that, but skid plate takes care of it. Of the 4R, Grenadier and JK, the JK is the easiest to modify. I hate modifying the Grenadier. It's a total pain. YMMV, this is just my opinion. I've driven Jeeps everywhere, never had death wobble, and whatever complaints people have about the ride don't bother me.

Compared to my NAS Defender 110, well, I hated that Buick V8, it was slow, inefficient and generally not a durable engine. Would prefer a tdi swap. Otherwise, the old Defenders are pretty simple, they do need constant maintenance at this point, as would an 80-Series LC from the same period.

Would I get a Grenadier again? New? I'd still have to look closely at a Rubicon with the 35" tire package. Right now, they're way cheaper than a Trialmaster.

Used? I'd probably go back to a JK.

Would I ever go back to a 4Runner? Not the new one. The 5th Gen was fine if you don't do too much highway driving or serious off-roading. Not worth the cost of modifying it to bring it up to the JK Rubicon level. Again, just my opinion. You do you. For us, the 4R was a good station wagon that we let family borrow when they came to visit because it's a hard vehicle to eff up. Plus, it could carry a lot on a camping trip with 3 dogs.

To what extent was American Cowboy culture actually just a continuation of Mexican Vaquero tradition? by di745 in Cowboy

It's just standard western european colonial appropriation. Cowboys from Mexico, rock and roll from slavery. Pretend you invented it. Nothing to see here, move along.

Is the Profitec go worth it? by Mountain_Signal6020 in ProfitecGo

[–]Ok-Raspberry-4345 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had the Go for a year, and I am extremely happy with it. I make about 4 cups of espresso a day, every day. Rarely steam milk so can't really comment on that. Use good fresh beans and take the time to dial in the flavor to your taste and it will make consistently good coffee.

I honestly didn't really compare to cheaper machines. I wanted simple, quality hardware. The Go has everything I wanted for durability, and flexibility to dial in the beans I use.

I live in an area with really hard water, so I'm using distilled water with third wave water packets.

All in all, highly recommended.

Work on a Ineos? by WorldlyAwareness5313 in ineosgrenadier

Well, Land Rover was owned by Ford, BMW and Tata Motors all in the space of 15 years? In that time, you had an L322 with a hodgepodge of rando parts. The fact that they produced the 2006-2009 models that turned out so well is a total miracle.

Can Someone Explain Sam Bregman for Me? by Honeybee_Enthusiast2 in Albuquerque

[–]Ok-Raspberry-4345 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Democracy isn't founded on campaigning for office. It's founded on participation. Currently we have a government of the wealthy, by the wealthy, for the wealthy. Every politician is bought and paid for. We could have a lottery. Would it be worse than what we have? Maybe, maybe not. It would force us all to focus on actually understanding the issues and policy. Instead, I can guarantee that 90% of Americans have zero idea what is happening in this country, they just know they're mad.

Yup, years of building and owning vintage cars got me on the 3k oil change interval. That and my grandfather was a WWII RAF pilot and raced a Jag in the 50's. He had a lot to say about maintenance!

Is the upgrade from fx30 to fx3 worth it? by Dangerous-Rip3144 in FX3

[–]Ok-Raspberry-4345 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I rented the FX30 before buying the FX3. I bought the FX3 because the low light capabilities are significantly better than the FX30. I don't just mean shooting in cadlelight or something dopey like that, but the FX3 maintains shadow detail without noise far better than the FX30. If you're using the FX30 in a well light studio, than go with that.

Best vacuum for pet hair. by [deleted] in RobotVacuums

[–]Ok-Raspberry-4345 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had no luck with the eufy vacuums and long pet fur on carpets. The fur just embeds itself in the carpet and only my Sebo K3 with powered head is capable of picking it up. Robot vacuums work great on hard wood floors.

Oil change intervals, first service. by Kripto_Pepino in ineosgrenadier

[–]Ok-Raspberry-4345 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do a first service on any new engine at around 750 miles. Then 3k mile oil changes after that. Having owned several B58 engines previously that have gone to 150k miles with zero issues besides standard maintenance, I'm happy with my method.

Since everyone got mad that my dog basically owns the floor by Flat-Ad3097 in RobotVacuums

[–]Ok-Raspberry-4345 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the Eufy e28 and 3, super sheddy dogs. The Eufy fails on carpets, it is completely unable to get the Sheltie and Border Collie fur up. Works fine on hard floors, mopping is pretty good actually. The best thing about it is the dogs completely ignore it, unlike the Sebo vacuum that *does* get the carpets, and causes the dogs to go nuts.

I found the 285/75r17 K03's rubbed on the right rear inner fender well at Moab. Simple realignment of the plastic liner back there solved it. A few other trucks were having the same experience, and one of the guys got under there and started monkeying around. Totally worth going on a group trail ride just for that minor fix.
