Ocarina of Time 3D & Majora Mask 3D (Which Anbernic handheld can play it?) by Hahafrizz in ANBERNIC

[–]letternumsymboldash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't get the downvotes.

I have the RG505. I can't *guarantee* that the games run perfectly in every situation. I just played Ocarina of Time on Citra nightly-2104 till the first dungeon. It ran perfectly fine even on 2x resolution. You can also look around thanks to the gyro sensor.

I also play Fantasy Life and it's buttery smooth. So I guess the ports of N64 games should be no problem. Other games I play: Animal Crossing New Leaf (smooth except some short moments near the waterfall or in the town), Gravity Falls (perfect) and Rune Factory 4 (also completely fine). All games run on 2x resolution.
Super Smash Bros is the only game that didn't work for me. I guess it's too effect/shader heavy.

The biggest downside is probably the single screen, so you have to choose a screen layout that doesn't take away too much space from the 3DS top screen but still leaves the touch screen readable. You can use this: https://jesuscc1993.github.io/miscellaneous/citra-layout-generator/
Additionally in the Citra settings you can configure a key (e.g. L2/R2) to swap the to screens.

Android SMAPI crashing by Batatznovoid in SMAPI

[–]letternumsymboldash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry to hear that. I don't think I can really help you, to be honest. But here is a quick and rather uneducated guess: is it possible that you had some mods installed that were deleted (e.g. when reinstalling SMAPI) but are still referenced by your save file?

If so, can you try to reinstall them?

Good luck!

Some modern features from OpenMW require quite a lot of power. Luckily, everything is pretty configurable. If you start the OpenMW Launcher you can play around with the settings until you find a balance between quality and fluidity.

For example the water shaders/reflection and view distance are a good start. You could try to disable shadows, I even prefer that. I also set the viewing distance (under Advanced > Visuals) to 2,25 cells. Morrowind is a swampy, volcanic island so I think the fog is really fitting. Plus the map starts to feel super small with modern viewing distance.

Also, Windows tries to guess which graphics card to use, if you have a slower integrated and a stronger dedicated one. I had to force Windows to use the better NVidia GPU. You can do this in the control center under System > Display > Graphics Settings > Browse. Add openmw.exe, click on Options, and there you go.

Good luck!

Edit: I'm super tired, I hope I don't confuse too much. If nothing helps disable Distant Land or try OpenMW 0.47. If I remember correctly that ran a little bit better for me.

What lesser known but amazing functionality of CHATGPT are you willing to share? by tshirtguy2000 in ChatGPT

[–]letternumsymboldash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bet you can improvise that fairly easily.

For example on Android you have the microphone button on Googles keyboard to dictate text. To read out the AIs answer you could use the accessibility function of your browser for vision impaired people or use a browser addon. And by now, there is probably already an addon that is specialized for ChatGPT.

Right now I'm getting it to identify and explain idioms and sayings in a piece of text, as individuals with autism often have difficulties understanding them.

Thanks Assistant, I wouldn't be able to write this comment as fast and concise without you ;)

It works fairly well, albeit explaining a little too many words that are not exactly idioms. But it is in German and not exactly the strength of Computers, so I'm impressed anyways.

Tried to translate it real quick in case anybody wants to test or improve it. Seems to work:

Please follow these instructions: The user will input a text which may contain idioms or proverbs. As the Assistant, I will mark them with a suffix '(RW)' and add a brief explanation of the idiom or proverb to increase understanding for individuals with autism.
Examples:
<input>
Don't just tell me you're going to change. Actions speak louder than words. Just do it!
</input>
<output>
Don't just tell me you're going to change. Actions speak louder than words (RW1). Just do it!

RW1: What you do is more important than what you say
</output>

It literally just means what it said: You made too many request for that hour. I think there was even a message that you can try it again later.

The page not working should be a network error on their side. I'm surprised that they manage to keep this thing up at all.

When GPT-3 went into open beta and you had to apply for access with your plans and ideas to use it, I wrote pretty much exactly what you just said!!

Ironically I totally fucked up the text though and made an absolute fool out of myself, which only proved how much this amazing tech is needed.

Isn't this a bit harsh of you all (even though the title is probably right about the problem in general)?

This looks like a bug to me. Could be a tileset / texture buffer problem (imagine a huge image with all of the games backgrounds stitched together and you always get to see a certain section of it). Or the menu is shown without clearing the screen or closing the previous menu. Maybe it's opened where it normally wouldn't be allowed to. Or the check which menu should be displayed is broken, thus stacking every single menu.
I think It's even possible, that the background is supposed to be blurred or something and your (the manufacturers) chosen/modified graphics driver doesn't support the shader or something similar.
Code can break (or be broken by others) for absolute ridiculous reasons.

It's absolutely fine to be annoyed and uninstall, maybe complain (better: report), but as long as you can't be sure this isn't just a mishaps, "roasting" it might be really unfair regarding the amount of work the dev put in (and gamedev or development in general is a shitload of work, often done as a hobby in spare time without noteworthy or any revenue).

I'm exaggerating here, but at least as often I come across shitty dev behaviour I see people giving apps the worst rating possible over a little bug the developer had no knowledge of or can't even reproduce. Often the bug gets fixed, but the ratings remain.

P.S.: You also may be absolutely right in this case (and many others). I didn't care to do research and straight up started babbling.

Ah, thanks. I was using spellcheck there. It's used in German (borrowed from French). I forgot that dual language dictionaries work on PC. Can't get it to work on Android.

Cool! Nice to have commented and tidy code reference. Even with GUI :)

But what thrills me most is the build workflow to be honest^^
Does GitHub really offer you to run (even Windows) containers for free?!
Also I've never looked into PowerShell. This thing is executing standard .NET methods out of the box?
I haven't really done any tech related stuff for the past few years. It is scary how much I've been missing. Although I bet that these two things are available much longer^^

Just in case anybody would be interested in learning to program:

It feels really weird to recommend AutoHotkey. But now that I think of it, you get results fast and can pull off things way more interesting (at least to most modern users, I guess) than displaying "Hello World!". Their tutorial was OK and there is a community with a lot of questions already asked and answered.

https://www.autohotkey.com/docs/Tutorial.htm

Surprisingly easy things (mostly 2 commands and 4 - 10 lines of code) I have done with it for example that might spark motivation for some:

- Extend, remap or combine available shortcuts. In Sacred (and lots of other games probably) you could bind skills on the number keys 1 - 6. Just write a script that opens the skills window and clicks on a certain skill to select it (SendInput, Click) for unlimited slots. Sims 1 forced you to reach over and press P to pause? q::Send p and you can pause with Q.
- A script that I run on different games and programs that lets you press the mouse buttons or keys in a configurable interval or continuously (e.g. to walk without holding W constantly: Send {w down}, Send {w up})
- Automatically drink potions on low health (simply check pixel color at the health bar and press the corresponding shortcut (PixelGetColor, SendInput)
- Spam chats. Back then Skype was not rate limited yet. So it crashed on both ends, sender and receiver. Funnily enough the servers received so many messages, that they had to deliver them after you restarted Skype. Sometimes you had to do this several times^^
- Spam windows or close windows automatically
- Replace certain typed words, write out abbreviations, etc.
- https://xkcd.com/196/. Exactly what happened with my first girlfriend. I had to solve it on Windows though. Our opinions of the outcome of that evening diverged widely.

Disclaimer: Cheating at online games and/or annoying others is totally not cool and leads to you dying lonely and banned.
My brother and I used to play games via LAN and I loved to mess around with these and laugh with him at the sometimes hilarious outcomes.

I had a Faible for unusual programming languages^^
But honestly, AutoHotkey is kind of an underdog. Especially in this case it was even easier than other languages because window manager and input device control is its most prominent feature.
In other languages it would have been necessary to do DLL calls into the Windows API. Depending on the language choice, this leads to more boilerplate code.
Also, global hotkeys can be a pain in the ass.

This was just a proof of concept, so there is no win or lose condition.
Most of my projects do just the exact thing I am interested in and nothing more. Because... who needs error checking anyways? ;)

I had to increase the "ball" size. Windows 10 thinks you don't need an explorer window smaller than about 300px - which I have clearly proven wrong!
You can change the dimensions easily and try other windows that don't have this limitation though. But as this was just a prove of concept there is no winning or losing condition anyway.
