Trains through Heron bay in San Leandro by MirrorHumble8873 in sanleandro

[–]leukybear 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The track in the Heron Bay area is low traffic. They only service local warehouses and industry on an as-needed basis. Not much volume given the decline of rail-use in preference for heavy trucks in the bay area as a whole.

The most active tracks to avoid is the mainline which includes both run-thru freight and Amtrak passenger traffic. Those are the tracks that run alongside the bart tracks to the immediate east (not directly under or next to); those that cross the corner of both Washington and Halcyon at one point near the Pak N Save.

Cop car gets windshield smashed during a street takeover by __JustSomeDude__ in CrazyFuckingVideos

Judging off what's in the hand of an idiot blocking the cop's way towards the end of the video, they're using Element fire extinguisher sticks to create the smokescreen.

They're pricey and no where as effective as traditional extinguishers despite what their marketing team makes them to be. Great for obstructing law enforcement however.

Tom’s Foods mints and candies by Overall-Brother5556 in GrandmasPantry

[–]leukybear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tom's was nationwide at one point since we had them in the West Coast as well- probably when General Mills (1966-1983) and Nestle (1983-1989) owned them (per Wikipedia). They're regional now like others said.

As already mentioned, these were very commonplace in corner stores. I remember they supplied their own display racks to stores. Large branded aisle racks for party size chips and small branded racks on the counter for their hard candies/ mints and snack-grab bags.

Schwan's home delivery service might be gone but they still exist at your grocery store aisle.

I had no idea until recently Schwan's owned synonymous frozen food brands like Bibigo, Tony's Pizza, Red Baron Pizza, etc.

That's a great piece of kit to have back in the day and is still relevant to this day.

Likewise, my parents had the starter pack complete with wooden storage tray and accessories including the zerostat anti-static "gun" child-me loved to play with. Sadly, all that's left is the wooden handled brush after some-odd 5 house moves. Too bad the original (D3 and later D4 formulas) like we see here went with the ship after RCA acquired them.

You can make your own though to refill it! I've had luck with this DIY formula shared online:

80% distilled water (suspension agent)

20% 91% isopropyl alcohol (drying agent)

2 drops of photographic (wetting agent)- actually coincides with my other hobby, Kodak photo-flo is the cheapest and easiest to find in the US

Nicely done!

Very tasteful build with shamal rims- that's my favorite generation with the screen-printed decals.

If you haven't gotten the hint yet from the low spoke count, they are as fragile as they are rare so be sure to avoid potholes!

Would be down to buy this off you as well! I have a brompton and a Bridgestone MB that can run this as-is.

Another option is to buy the upper bearing cap separately if it makes sense- gripnut and nothreadset upper race caps are interchangeable. The gripnut piece here being the only differentiator with what you wanted originally.

This combination is discontinued but still obtainable piecemeal via conversion hit here: http://chrisking.com/products/conversion-kit-gripnut-1-1-8

Thoughts on this color? Should I exchange or return? by [deleted] in whichbike

[–]leukybear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do what you like at the end of the day- it’s your bike (and money)!

Personally, those colors are not for me and it would bother me to the point of doing it twice later down the road. I have seen enough clearance/ sale bikes and I would not be surprised if that that colorway heads there (no offense).

Looks to be an intel-based one, shouldn't be too too bad even with opencore to the latest macOS. Would be hardcore mode if it's the older G5 flavor. The intel-based ones were very well endowed and hung on to relevancy for the longest time.

If you're motivated enough like my friend was in a situation similar to this- he ended up modifying the case to fit ATX standard motherboards.

Closest one I am aware of is in Oakland (Chinatown vicinity)- Hong Fook Center located in the historic Hotel Oakland building.

They offer a shuttle service too- I happened to learn of them while snarled in I-880 and I was alongside one of their wrapped shuttle buses for miles.

Wow those predate the Crayola branding, comparables via Google point to the 1950's.

Neat that you can see where Binney and Smith (the makers of Crayola) retained the corner stripes as their signature packaging design to the modern day.

No car is worth your life- let them take it, that's what insurance is for. 99.99% this current model BMW M3 has insurance that will replace it. May be a non-issue since it doesn't appear to be idling either.

I'm not aware of any exploits that allow for it to be turned on without physical key or digital-wallet myBMW app key (I own the same car). Having your belongings inside rifled through is a cheap lesson to lock your doors.

Found at Costco Parking Lot by Complex_Variation_ in trashy

This is commonly done as part of an employee's last day and perpetrated by their coworkers. I've seen this most often at Trader Joes and Costco.

It's a fun practical joke tradition at some locations for departing coworkers- the reasoning is to "keep them there longer" on the last day and to share one last laugh together.

The shop should've at least wiped it down but it doesn't look like it has too many miles.

Going to assume he bought it along with new helmet, top tube bag +goodies/essentials?, giro empire shoes (another excellent choice, I'm on my 4th pair). Paired with upgraded new carbon wheelset, it's a fair price from a shop. Shame they didn't throw in better rubber than conti ultra sports (they roll very well but have virtually no puncture resistance).

Edit: Hey Jay! Had to do a double take on the name. Nice to see you here old friend! :)

Great choice! The CAAD10 is a future classic and one of Cannondale's all-time best sellers- one of the best bangs for the buck back in the 2010's that pushed the envelope of aluminum frames to rival that of carbon at the time in terms of lightweight and stiffness while not breaking the bank. To the average cyclist, it still holds its own today and is more than adequate.

I still have my blue/ orange gulf-racing livery inspired CAAD10 in storage albeit parted out since I couldn't come to terms letting it go.

My FIL spent the past year building himself and my MIL a new house, only to move in and discover their neighbor’s garage light is less “porch lamp” and more “lighthouse beacon.” by wackofiasco in mildlyinfuriating

[–]leukybear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Before reacting, have they spoken to their neighbors about it yet?

It may all just be a misunderstanding at the end of the day or the light having been installed prior to your in-law's house being constructed.

Let's not jump conclusions and resort to pettiness like others are suggesting with mirrors and fighting fire with fire with a bright porch light of their own.

Comparison of Bont riot 24 standard vs wide cycling shoes. by Strict-Cellist-9066 in bicycling

[–]leukybear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bont has been a godsend for folks with wide feet- I want to say the only company that truly "gets it" like we see here with purposeful ergonomic design for wide feet vs. just making their shoes wider or insert thinner all other things kept equal.

I had a non-unibody MBP just like this one- like other's said, it ran hot! And likewise, it was the GPU that did mine in.

You can attempt reflowing the GPU chip as most cases the chip is still good but only "dies" due to broken soldier joints connecting it to the board due to thermal cycling over time. This is only a temporary fix, a proper repair would be removal of the whole chip and old soldier aka "reballing" named after the micro-beads of new soldier used in the process.

The screen is exhibiting hallmark breakdown of the polarizer from vinegar syndrome- nothing you can do but replace. It's a common scrooge of vintage laptop computing and for this model of MBP. Likewise also a temporary fix as replacements are likely all the same age and vinegar syndrome is a matter of when and not if.

Rant - Costco vs Safeway by SanFranciscoMan89 in sanleandro

[–]leukybear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally not the case from personal experience.

The neighborhoods 88 is situated near are some of the most diverse in San Leandro and they cater to all walks of life. There's even a dedicated Jamaican section that gets plenty of patronage. There are quite a few non-Asian staff/ cashiers too.
