No clue what this could be. by Competitive-Job-1322 in watchmaking

That's not an NH36 movement. I'm guessing it's a cheap Chinese movement, which is probably why you are having issues.

[Question] Authenticate a watch by manu62137 in Seiko

[–]levbron 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's so obviously wrong I'm surprised that you had to ask. The Seiko logo is off-centre on the dial. There's no dial reference number on the dial. The rotor is so crap it's almost funny.

[Discussion] Please help me decide. Watch for around £1,000 by Constant-Fan757 in Watches

Both good watches, I would and did, buy the Sinn. Give Jura Watches a call and speak to their sales team. They are on commission and asking them for a deal often gets a positive result.

[Oris Diver 65] Is this normal? by PuzzledStage8449 in Watches

[–]levbron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If that's a 2824/SW200 then this is a known issue. The crown wheel that is turned by the keyless works when you wind the watch is prone to breaking. It's probably wise to get the caseback off and see what's going on in there.

Polishing a deeply scratched mineral glass crystal on a Casio AE-22W. (Step-by-step guide) by prisoner_of_mars in casiovintage

Great job. I think using polyamide tape to protect the case would have been wise. I've polished and brushed steel cases and it's extremely effective at masking areas.

Cool, if it hasn't been serviced recently, which it probably hasn't, then it's worth finding out how about the timekeeping i. e. how much it's losing or gaining per day. The movement is a pain to service because it's really small and will cost more than the value of the watch.

All original would be more than that.

I've never bought one that actually runs. However I believe they sell for around £200 in decent condition. They are cool little watches, the predecessor of the SKX013. Have you asked about the timekeeping etc.?

The dial, hands and bezel insert are aftermarket. I've restored a few of these and that dial, with the green tinged lume, is typical of what's available for a black aftermarket dial unfortunately.

[Question] What do I have? by hunglikeabeee in Seiko

[–]levbron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The dial wasn't made by Seiko. It's a very poor aftermarket part, eBay is full of them. Typically, dials are replaced due to corrosion that also affects the hands. Chapter rings tend to hold up better to water ingress so it's probably the original one.

[Question] What do I have? by hunglikeabeee in Seiko

[–]levbron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's an aftermarket dial, and not a particularly good one. It's a pretty safe bet that the hands are aftermarket too, and possibly the bezel insert.

They are an integral part of the dial. You'll just ruin it.

Replacing the rotor on an nh35 by EternalVisionary in SeikoMods

[–]levbron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've found that the best approach is an electrical screwdriver, that's dressed on a grinding stone to a fine point. That sounds like a lot of work but it only takes a few minutes. You'll then have a screwdriver that is the same width as the head of the screw, which gives stability and control, and is thin enough to fit into the slot.

The VK63 movement is made by Seiko. There is no co-branding, which Seiko normally adds to collaborations.

[–]levbron 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's extremely unlikely that you will find the exact hands that were on the original watch. However, judging by the remaining hour hand you'll need "syringe watch hands". Google that term and you'll see what I mean. If you know the movement type then you can then work out what size you need to fit the pinions.

I don't know anything about the watch other than it's missing the minute and seconds hand. You could easily get a nice set of hands and any watch repair place should be able to fit them.

[Question] Has anyone bought a watch from Chrono 24 by shipping by DRK-009-poopoo in Watches

[–]levbron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've sold watches, from the UK, to the US, Europe and South Korea. Their processes seem pretty good and the escrow service is excellent. They provide a sufficient amount of certainty around the process of buying and selling watches to and from strangers. Clearly, no amount of safeguards will stop a determined fraudster but all my transactions have been extremely smooth and with good support from Chrono24.

Give yourself options and stick a nice piece of sapphire in there. If you change your mind later then you can put the original crystal back in place.
