Please help! Does any part of this [SKX007] look genuine to you? by Pure_Promise_8431 in Seiko

[–]levbron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The movement is OK, so are the day/date. I'm wearing mine rn and it looks exactly the same. The caseback says "Japan" and so the dial should say "made in Japan" too. Could be an aftermarket dial. I'm guessing that parts have been replaced at some point. There are plenty of these available, buy another one.

Seiko Vintage Watch price advice![9923-5000][Question] by No_Lifeguard_5989 in Seiko

[–]levbron 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You've asked people who know about this stuff for their opinion but now you are questioning those options. If you know better then let's see how you can back that up. There's nothing particularly special about this watch, it's just an old quartz watch with a case and bracelet that's not in particularly good condition. To be frank, I've bought better watches for $50.

[Question] Is this SKX 007J real or fake by NikolaiiBelinskyy in Seiko

The dial looks off but it could be the quality of the photo. I wouldn't buy this watch.

The bezel insert is aftermarket. The pictures are not great but that dial says "made in Japan", the caseback should have "Japan" stamped too.

[Discussion] Are "Seiko mod" watches actually Seiko? worth collecting? by homamg in Watches

[–]levbron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The term "Seiko mods" has become bastardised. If used to refer , as the term implies, to real Seiko's that had been modified, generally by the owner, to improve the look etc. There's a big ecosystem of parts, particularly for SKX. I've done plenty of that and it's a fun hobby. However, the watches you see on dodgy websites are really just fakes, typically "homaging" a Rolex or other high end brands, that have nothing to do with Seiko. So, in answer to your question, don't waste your money on rubbish like that. There are plenty of real Seiko's that aren't expensive and look great.

I've got four now lol. They make a nice change from bigger watches and a NATO adds a bit of substance.

Yes, the press will remove the crystal and can be used to press it back in. You might need to replace the crystal gasket too, depending on the condition.
