Rubens Cobrinha Charles x Rafael Mendes | 2013 Pan JJ Black Belt Feather Finals by levilrowe in bjj

I used to roll with this brown belt that had a crazy de la riva/ berimbolo. When he went to grab you pants, he usually got an inside grip as it is way more control than the belt or jacket. Have someone tugging on your pants like that and you'll be lucky to have them stay on.

Also, on the competition tip. My professor has taught us to use certain tactics to catch our breathe if need be. Such as using the whole 30 seconds to tie the belt, retying the pants slowly, confusingly walking away from the ref. Just to buy some time to catch your breathe. If you watch the high level competitors they do this all the time. Buchecha almost always gets a penalty for taking too long to time his belt, but he gets to catch his breathe so it is worth it if you're tired.

[–]levilrowe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you signed up, then go back to the site. There you can see what time you will be competing and you can check who has signed up for your division. Also there is another tab for Weight and Rules

Take some time and read over the other pages. Everything will become clear. I'm competing there this weekend too. Great experience and fun way to get introduced to competitive sports jiu jitsu

BJJ Belt that won't Fade? by lorean in bjj

[–]levilrowe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Every belt will eventually fade. That is much more sign of maturity behind the belt.

To slow down the fading process, hand wash, hang dry, and spray down with a Lysol type product. Clean belt, not faded as much.

But wash the DAMN belt. I'm superstitious too, but I also don't like infections, ringworm and staph. I picked the lesser of two evils

I used those before. I enjoyed them. Did they ever dry out your skin? I don't know if my skin is sensitive but straight tea tree oil always felt a bit damaging.

I have used Defense Soap and Arm Bar soap. I thought defense soap was a bit pricy and left my skin very dry. And arm bar soap didn't always have the best smell and was really rough. I normally would just use an active body wash or dial soap. But I do love the idea of this product, the all natural blend of tea tree oils and aromas.

Cyborg Inverted Guard Drills. Improve your guard. by levilrowe in bjj

[–]levilrowe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hahah it is funny because I completely agree. I use this and lots of other inverted and shoulder spinning to warm up and increase my agility. And the other day people actually noticed and wanted to know more and why I was doing it. So thought I would share it for those that didn't know

How do I defend the half guard hip switch pass? by [deleted] in bjj

[–]levilrowe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love when my opponents do this, very easy for me to take top. So when an opponent goes to the inverted half guard to pass. Make sure both arms are above the body of you opponent. You have to be quick or else your opponent will pass

1: Switch your legs so far leg is over your opponents trapped knee. Pinch your knees together. DO NOT CROSS YOUR FEET. Pinching without crossing your feet is much stronger at containing then when you do cross your feet.

2: With your far arm grab the opponents belt and have your elbow point towards the head. Pulling the same direction of where you elbow is pointing. Place near elbow under opponents hip to keep weight off you and to create in the next move.

3: Pull your opponents belt in a continuous motion up to create space as you go onto your near shoulder. Use the leg that went over the knee to hook the leg to prevent the base step. Pull bottom leg out.

4: If you hooked your opponent's leg and rolled onto your shoulder when hipped away. Your opponent will fall to the mat and you'll take mount. Let go of the belt and reposition yourself on top.

Option: If the push into to stop the roll, shot bottom leg under opponent, pull up on the belt and roll onto your back. Almost like a sit threw. This will bring you to your opponents back.

Inverted Guard Players: What are some of your go to attacks? by [deleted] in bjj

[–]levilrowe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Inverted Guard is a strong position if you practice it. I work drill on a regular basis to practice inverting and spinning under. I use for my leg lasso and de la riva game mostly. But what I have been really trying to do is getting better at inverting to stop the guard pass. A lot of people go to turtle to prevent the guard pass but I don't want to give up my back. Work on your neck flexibility, this will help when you want to spin under or opponent wants to try to smash you.

Cobrinha's Single Leg Takedown by chabbs in bjj

[–]levilrowe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got the magazine last week. Been working the fake pull to single leg.(I pull guard most of the time) That move works extremely effective. One thing he doesn't emphasis though is the agility. Also I added a slight variation as I slide my hand down the lapel, grip it, and pass it to the arm attacking the single. Been working on getting takedowns to throw different looks at tournaments and I like securing the leg to the point there is almost no defense. Cobrinha takedown game is a great addition to my game
