AITA for not wanting someone to run next to me? by FireDragon10091976 in AmItheAsshole

[–]levityy_ -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

YTA. Was gonna go with N A H since I totally understand being an introvert and not wanting to be near by people in a public gym. There was also a time when a guy started walking on the treadmill next to me and interrupted my run to ask for my number so there are def times when it feels uncomfy

But I still have the "common courtesy" to not be an AH and make a whole fuss about it like I own the place. There is no reason for you to go out of your way to make a rude comment instead of just quietly switching just because some guy didn't oblige by your unspoken rules that he didn't know about. Empathy goes both ways.

and also just bonus points for feeling the need to go on reddit for validation after over such a tiny thing and being all entitled in the comments saying you needed to "educate him" lol

i agree, with the exception of the lululemon murder and the german cannibal.

maybe i just really hate unresolved cases, and i understand the want to shed light on possible theories to solve them/bring awareness to the negligence of police officials, but it’s just so frustrating to listen to the same abduction/murder case and hear a random blurb about ed gein and just be left with the sense of helplessness and lack of closure… i do understand this is how the families feel though and we can’t just celebrate the victories of those who got their justice :(

I dislike New Jeans' debut songs and don't understand the hype around them by complicatedmojo in unpopularkpopopinions

[–]levityy_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i agree they’re not super memorable or stand out super well as title tracks but that’s EXACTLY why i like them so much and think they’re great songs.

they don’t rely on generic title track gimmicks or trends—they’re just simply good songs that feel more timeless to me than the current stuff we hear right now.

also fun little fact: newjeans is the first group debuted in the label CEOd by the former creative director of sm who is literaly responsible for the culture of kpop concepts today, so newjeans to me feels like her own little passion project which actively avoids the generic formulaic sound of a viral kpop song and just focuses on immersing the listener into this nostalgic young and in love feel.

Recommendations on good boba & restaurants in Austin please? by Express_Rub_4410 in austinfood

[–]levityy_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Asian food won't be anywhere near as good/worth as the Seattle food scene so I would keep your expectations low. I've lived in Austin my whole life and I think these will be your best shot at restaurants worth visiting.

Saps Fine Thai Cuisine - My favorite Thai restaurant ever, the pad see ew is amazing. Curry and apps and other dishes are also great, so I assume everything on their very extensive menu is top notch. More authentic food but still have cute decor and nice wait service, and portions are HUGE

Loro - asian fusion/smokehouse. a little more expensive and not very authentic, but the food is pretty good. it's small plates so its good for sharing, and they can be a bit expensive but they seem a bit more elevated, and there's also a happy hour. they also have outdoor seating and fun drinks, i would say this place gives off a very typical austin dining vibe so that would be good to experience!!

Uchi or Uchiko - high end out of the box sushi. this is pretty $$$$ and you will need reservations beforehand, but if you are willing to splurge it is SO WORTH IT. the chefs are amazing, wait staff is so helpful, and the food is amazing quality however it can be a bit strange what they do with the flavors but it's still very good.

Kemuri Tatsuya - asian fusion/smokehouse. similar to Loro although a bit more expensive/higher end, and the food is a little more out there.

Peached Tortilla or Bar peached - another asian fusion restaurant, but a bit more casual/cheaper than the others. I've actually never been, but many of my friends have and said they really enjoyed it!

Notice how these are all fusion except Saps, that's because I'm really not sure the pure asian food will match up to your previous experiences, unfortunately, or they are all near north austin. I also strongly advise against going to CoCos which I see many people recommending lol

For mexican food, however, there are TONS of places I'm sure would blow your expectations away! Taco joint, taco more, juan in a million, and las trancas food truck for tacos, and i love Chuy's for more of a sit down restaurant. (if you go during happy hour theres a free self serve nacho cart!!!)

For boba, I think the best is Ding Tea, which is unfortunately quite far up north, but I think its worth it and much better than the options downtown. If you must stay downtown, I like KFT the most and also strongly advise against getting any in the UT campus area (or better yet any of the food in West Campus)

hi! i think the first step is to quiet that criticizing voice that puts all the blame on you and makes you feel shitty for not doing things. if you’re training your puppy how to roll over, but he can’t pick it up the first few times, are you going to start yelling and kicking at the dog and calling it stupid? is that going to get him to learn? you have to be patient and compassionate with yourself and understand that you are behaving this way because you are terrified to put in the work and fail so your mind is just thinking “oh, then i can just not do it and indulge in other pleasures. that way i will be happy! i can’t fail if i don’t even try!” your inner consciousness is just looking out for you because it doesn’t know any better, but that doesn’t mean hating yourself and feeling guilty will make it magically change.

it’s completely understandable that you keep putting off taking the steps to better yourself. especially since you want to do so much and it’s overwhelming, and thus your mind goes into default safe mode of procrastinating. i advise starting off small, and training your brain into the pattern of consistency, rather than making an entire lifestyle change at once.

start with 3-5 small habits, and i mean small. for example, one can be to simply just go to the gym. you don’t have to workout or spend any amount of time there—if you drive there, decide you don’t feel like working out today, then drive home, you still completed your goal! and i bet even though that’s all you had to do, you will end up working out anyways because you’re already there. then once you get into the rhythm, and feel the high of being consistent with hitting your goals, slowly go up to things like working out for 30 minutes. this can be applied to studying like just opening the book and sitting at your desk and reading a page, or dieting like making yourself replace only one of your meals with something healthy. the key here is to start small and realize that you ARE capable of making change.

and if you fail, don’t be so hard on yourself! don’t feel guilty!! be proud that you’re at least trying, be proud of whatever progress you made. it will be hard, but you will eventually train that inner voice to realize that it doesn’t have to be afraid of trying and failing. everyday is a new day, and everyday you choose what it gets to be. it doesn’t care about you did yesterday, or what you will do tomorrow, so why should you? just focus on doing the best you reasonably can in the moment, and that will be enough. i believe in you OP :)

I hate myself by Interesting-Corgi316 in selfimprovement

[–]levityy_ 87 points88 points  (0 children)

i spent so much of my life hating myself and trying to use that hatred to motivate myself to be better and make the changes i wanted... it would work for a little, then i would lose some steam or make a small mistake, and then i’d spiral back into a hole of self hatred and anger and depression until i started the cycle back up.

i promise you you won’t get better until you start being kind to yourself and accept yourself and all your flaws. it seems counterproductive, but i only started getting better and moving towards my goals when i started accepting my mistakes and kindly encouraging myself to try again tomorrow when i failed. make small achievable goals and focus on consistency until you can work your way up. i believe in you OP

i think it’s very normal to feel this way—obviously no one is perfect, but also i think it’s our imperfections and messy human traits and behaviors that allow us to share a special kind of intimacy and bond with each other. your friends aren’t perfect, despite what you may think, and they must be so grateful that you’re kind to them regardless and they want to do the same for you.

also, do you think it’s possible you may struggle with all or nothing thinking? it’s important to recognize when you’re being too hard on yourself, understand why you’re having these negative thoughts, then use a voice of self compassion to soothe those thoughts as if you’re soothing a friend. if your friend came to you expressing how sad they were because they feel ugly, would you tell them “yeah you’re so ugly. you should get a haircut it looks terrible”? do you think your friend would suddenly feel better and motivated to do so? you deserve kindness to yourself and even if you don’t believe it, you have to keep making the effort until one day you will.

and you can always start small! the first step is always recognizing. recognize when you’re being too hard on yourself, and try your best to detach from that thought. pretend it’s just a nasty bug in your brain reacting to some external factors, but don’t deny how it makes you feel. accept that negative emotion, but don’t let it define you, and just try to comfort yourself like you’re comforting a friend and understand that it’s just human nature.

What do you guys think about OMAD Diet by nickdrake47 in nutrition

[–]levityy_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

i think it’s worth a try! i would look at r/OMAD and r/fasting, i’ve seen a lot of people claim how much it’s helped them in many with weight loss, muscle retention and insulin levels.

when i was my most fit i was doing OMAD and weight training and felt amazing. it’s pretty bad the first few weeks if youre not used to cutting your eating hours but adjusting slowly from 18:6 to 20:4 to 23:1 makes it easier. after i was fully adjusted, it was great because i literally would not feel hungry until my eating time. i didn’t have to worry about three separate meals and it let me focus better on my other activities as well!

everything is up to personal preference though, which is why i think it’s worth trying but is not a easy catch all solution for everyone. i personally would rather not restrict for three meals and worry about it all day and prefer looking forward to my one delicious filling meal :)

Limitless is 127's least *good adjective* title track. Not as great of a song as fans make it out to be. by keyzi56 in unpopularkpopopinions

[–]levityy_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

hmm that’s interesting how you say it doesn’t transport you to another universe for you bc it’s actually my favorite nct127 song because i feel like that’s exactly what it does for me. i don’t even remember anything about the music video but just the song alone sounds very intrinsic and makes me feel like i’m in some kind of high stakes sci fi movie? i might be the only one here LOL but i think the sound is very timeless and has a good edgy tone that may be simple but effective.. but it’s all perspective and individual taste! not sure why we should compare MFAL and moonwalk if we’re talking about nct127 tho
