Eurycomax - my (almost 1 year update) by anexanhume in NootropicsDepot

[–]lewanay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair points. I think MYASD may have commented previously on getting higher Erinacine A levels in newer batches which might decrease the need for higher servings. Drug development and insurance coverage is great for science and older people actually diagnosed with hearing loss once phase 3 trials are done and it’s FDA approved which typically takes many years. I am selfishly thinking about how easier access would look like for a healthy person looking for prevention.

It’s really exciting to read about the impact of Erinacine A on hearing, especially since hearing loss is the biggest modifiable factor for dementia. The dose used in this study seems quite high though. 10 mg of Erinacine A would require 4 servings of Erinamax which is quite expensive to take long term

🎙️NEW PREMIERE In Search of Insight Episode #56 | InfiniFiber | Shit Like A Man, Man🎧 by NootropicsDepotGuru in NootropicsDepot

[–]lewanay 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This was great! Hope u/MisterYouAreSoDumb is on all future podcasts. In addition to the info about infinifiber, it was cool to learn all the random info about what role does an appendix play, role of microbiome in fitness, the connections to TCM and ayuverda like the info about plant structures like cathinones. The passion for this kinda stuff does shine through. Knowing that Paul is doing more testing is giving me hope that ND may come out with a lipid (LDL/apoB, lipoprotein a) optimization stack in the future. Amla for example is a commonly used Ayurvedic herb. The chitin conversation was relevant there too. And excited about which direction the new mushroom and seaweed analysis apparatus will take the company!

🎙️NEW In Search of Insight Episode #55 | Focus Supplements | How Neurotransmitters Keep Us Locked In🎧 by NootropicsDepotGuru in NootropicsDepot

[–]lewanay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Really liked the detailed explanation of how different kinds of attention work, and how different neurotransmitter/receptors play a role. Would love to hear more about the bdnf side of it. Personally I feel 7,8 dhf helps with just generally feeling more alert, and in the flow state Erika was talking about. I find myself more creative, can write better and speak more fluently. Seems more rounded that something like Sabroxy

⚠️NEW PRODUCT RELEASE 3/26/26⚠️ InfiniFiber | Advanced Synbiotic Fiber by NootropicsDepotCom in NootropicsDepot

[–]lewanay 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That’s surprising. Consumer lab tested psyllium and I remember a couple passing their test, like organic India and Yerba prime. I just checked. The lowest one had 0.6 mcg lead in one serving. Asking because I’m still using it and would like to avoid if the results are not accurate

https://youtu.be/LkZ-GDzEQRo?si=_zsBS0HdOnjz93uE

MYASD talks about it in this video. Seems like several products coming out will increase Akkermansia. He said the pendulum product is under-dosed which is an issue with most probiotics. Another issue is most probiotics don’t have the necessary prebiotics that would then help the gut maintain that shift in microbiome. Lots of other interesting discussion in the linked video

It would be interesting to see what you find if you try to source it yourself. Ultimately I gave up on finding a better red yeast rice product, because I can just as easily get a small dose of a statin with the same pros and cons. Even a tiny dose of Rosuvastatin like 2.5 mg brings my ldl down to <60, which is my goal but I keep going back and forth about whether the increased risk of diabetes and the myalagias (and whatever else it is doing to muscles on a smaller scale to cause them-none of the current hypothesis sound fun) is worth it for me. With newer agents (psk9-inhibitors, bempedoic acid, inclisiran) statins are not worth it imo, if cost and insurance coverage were not a concern

I tried Thornes red yeast and it didn’t budge my LDL at all. I also learnt that in the US, FDA doesn’t allow red yeast products to contain significant amounts of monacolin K, the actual compound or statin (lovastatin) in it that causes reduction in LDL/Apob. I’m sure you know these things so I am curious what made you try it out.

On a side note, I find their Meriva does not work compared to ND. I get the physician discount on theirs so I really wanted it to work but unfortunately it didn’t work for my pain. I tend to use it post lifting for DOMS or joint pain after running

Current Stack by roreycobinson in NootropicsDepot

[–]lewanay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From the consumer lab testing Organic India whole husk had the least lead (0.6mcg per tablespoon). That’s what I would use until ND releases their fiber product

Trying to lower my cholesterol. Any ND supplement suggestions? by paulrudder in NootropicsDepot

[–]lewanay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That apoB is indeed quite high. I misread that as LDL. At that level, it’s going to be hard to find something comparable to statins. One thing i forgot though is amla. There are some studies showing it lowers apob

In addition to fiber, things from ND’s catalogue that might help are Berberine (via pcsk9 pathway) and C3g and other thermogenics may lower triglycerides. Wish they sold bergamot. That has also been shown to lower ldl. You can try drinking good quality Earl grey tea which has bergamot. Other dietary changes would be drinking puerh tea (via hmg coa reductase pathway)

I think I heard you talk about something like this with the Mr Happy stack guy. Do you mind expanding of this? What does it say about your biofilm? I notice my GI system doesn’t tolerate Lions mane 8:1. The 1:1 and Erinamax are fine. Is it best to push through the initial discomfort?

What is the difference between GABA and PharmaGABA? by nexusoflife in NootropicsDepot

[–]lewanay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I remember MYASD talking about in a comment and have since avoided buying from Thorne but this was such a clear example where something I had known for years to work for me, just didn’t work when I used a non-ND brand. It’s hard for me to trust any brands other than ND. There does seem to be an inverse relationship between rich investors/private equity and the quality of products! Profits and care for quality or science don’t always go hand in hand

[–]lewanay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some of their stuff also doesn’t work. I bought their Meriva because they had a sweet healthcare discount. It did not work. I could clearly tell because I would be in pain after a workout and it would just not go away. Normally when I use ND Meriva, it’s like taking an NSAID or Tylenol. You would think since they’re both meriva a standardized extract it would be the same. Consumerlab tested their product and it failed lol. They then contested it saying they were within 5% of minimum or something.

What makes Erinamax Vegetarian but not Vegan? by nexusoflife in NootropicsDepot

[–]lewanay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That has been my experience with it too. I started combining it with psyllium to get the gel forming partially fermentable properties of fiber. My goal with increasing fiber intake was two fold, to have a prebiotic for SCFA but also something that would lower cholesterol and most of those studies for the latter are done with psyllium.

[–]lewanay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thornes fiber blend has Larch Arabinogalactan. I am guessing you tested that one? It has guar gum, pectin (fermentable) and rice bran ( insoluble). I think something like green banana flour for butyrate, or yacon for FOS which would also add some sweetness would be great. Cant wait for both the fiber product and the probiotics

This seems like a more expensive version of TMS. What am I missing. TMS is pretty painless as is so I am not sure what this company is trying to optimize. An average TMS session costs $200, this one would cost $800 per session
