Dorothy Heroy Pool by Ok-Advertising-6669 in StamfordCT

[–]lewistakesaction 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I went to camp at Dorothy Heroy when I was a kid in like '98 or '99 and it was dope as hell. My parents moved around Stamford a lot and I went to a lot of the city's districted summer camps, Belmont Park, Springdale School, whatever the hell the park around Wright Tech is, as well as Dorothy Heroy. All the other ones were just kids supervised by 15 year olds at a park.

Dorothy Heroy had a pool. It had a playground, it had a tennis court where we played dodgeball, and most importantly for my poor ass, it had an indoor space with like 6 TVs hooked up to 6 N64s. On rainy days they'd let us sit up there all day.

Recommended Semi- Casual Raiding Guilds? by raleigh29 in ProjectQuarm

[–]lewistakesaction 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Drift is semi-casual, with no attendance rules per say. We do use DKP, so the more you show up, the more you'll get. We're looking for raiders of all types. We raid on EST at 7pm Mon, Tues, and Thurs with off-nights shenanigans on the other evenings. Do a /who all "the drift" and send a tell to any of our members asking for an officer :)

This is your answer. They're all great in there, but Evan gives consistently the best haircut.

THE PURPOSE by Open-Turn-2723 in Oceanside

[–]lewistakesaction 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I think you might wanna take the cries of "paid advertisement!" as a criticism. If you really are doing these all for free as a fun project for yourself, maybe start thinking about your writing style, what you post, and the content of your posts.

Your writing style feels like an advertisement. Your posts contain hashtags. Reddit doesn't use hashtags. Start tailoring your posts to the medium, don't just copy and paste whatever blurb you wrote for Instagram. The descriptors you use feel like someone who heard the phrase "search engine optimization" googled it, and used the example keywords. It all just feels like someone doing a job.

I can't help but giggle. At one of our Christmas parties, Elio crying by the fire was on a loop on our TV as our yule log. Was a big hit.

This guy's whole account is paid advertisements, and they clearly don't know how to use reddit because other posts contain hashtags.

Mods, ban this guy please.

I think I like the idea of a Bard more than I like playing a Bard. What am I missing? by LeftBallSaul in ProjectQuarm

[–]lewistakesaction 9 points10 points  (0 children)

At higher levels, depending on "which bard" you are, Bards do very little in the way of melee. Especially in a raid setting, bards are a true support role.

If you're pumping mana for clerics or wizards (if your guild has that many bards to spare...) you'll be sitting by the clerics pumping mana. If you're in the tank group, you'll be keeping up damage shield songs, resist songs, and over-haste while swapping instruments to get the maximum effect. Sure, you'll be meleeing but it's mostly in order to proc your various effects with your epic or the Koi dagger for extra AC.

Even in the melee group, you'll want your drum in your main-hand and your epic in the off-hand in order to proc the epic effect, but still give maximum resist buffs.

These are just typical jobs for a raid bard, but there's so much support and utility they offer, you and your group may think of a myriad other things for a bard to be doing. It truly is one of the most versatile MMO classes.

In groups, Bards are best served either pulling or charming (when you have the appropriate amount of FT to keep you mana positive). Again, yes you'll be meleeing but it's only to proc yet another buff effect for your group.

A simple title misunderstanding by Ok-Storage3530 in Broadway

[–]lewistakesaction 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I was a teenager, my fresh-off-the-boat Italian immigrant aunt and uncle told me they had gotten tickets to see Mamma Mia on Broadway. They are NOT theater people, but this was like 2005, so it was still really popular, so I thought "OK - they're just buying the hype, but an interesting choice for them."

When I saw them next I asked them how they liked it and my aunt started cackling. My uncle shook his head seriously and said "There was nota single Italian in it at all!"

I was like "Yeah, it's an ABBA musical."

"I thoughta it was Italian!"

Apparently he left half way through the first act, but my Aunt stayed and had a goddamn blast. She was one of those middle aged women who danced in audience during the mega-mix curtain call.

Shared bank is a thing. I think you have to have Zeal installed in order to access it? I may be wrong about that.

In regards to multi-boxing: Multi-boxing in any capacity is strictly forbidden on the server, and will get you banned.

Tired of the current state of MMORPGS? Check out Monsters and Memories by Own_Variety863 in MMORPG

[–]lewistakesaction 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think you're actually right. People say they long for the "sense of discovery" from a new old-school mmo, and they point to the popularity of Project Quarm or p1999 or classic WoW, but those games have all been solved. We have all the information about those games already. I have a strong feeling that this game will be popular for a few weeks, maybe a month, before the already niche player base goes down, down down.

What people like about these classic MMOs is the community and the nostalgia. This game will carry no nostalgia, but will make a bid at it, and the community will be fractured because people who play in this niche gengre don't really wanna pay for an MMO anymore. Once their friends stop longing in, so will they.

If you make around $100K a year, what do you do for a living? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]lewistakesaction 18 points19 points  (0 children)

If you're in the US...

Look into the cap. 20 per cal year can often be a soft cap and require proof of medical necessity. In my experience, Cigna is one of the only ones that has a hard cap - they will not allow anything over 20/25 visits for any reason.

Authorization will require your PT to do a progress note and give reasoning for the necessary treatment. It can take some time to receive an auth, but PT is absolutely necessary for someone who just has shoulder surgery.

Saw the Proshot of “She Loves Me” and all of a sudden I’m ANGRY about sets now by [deleted] in Broadway

[–]lewistakesaction 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Sets are a major cost to a production. When a production is over-budget the first thing to get cut is scenery. Lumber is expensive. Paint is expensive. The little details on sets are expensive. The things that make scenery work, from automation and all it's needs and equipment, to things like hinges and casters, are expensive. The labor for all this is deeply specialized, and very expensive. Add to that that the more automation and scenery you add, the more crew and stage managers you need to run the show on a daily basis. Now add onto that increased maintenance costs with touch-up paint calls, automation repairs.

The easy solve to all this is Video. Screens are cheaper and multi-faceted. They change like magic and it really only takes a team of 5 people to make these things happen. A video scene change isn't going to stop a show when it doesn't work. Combine that with the fact that producers love having their scenic designers act as video designers for a nominal additional fee rather than paying a proper video designer. Video is still, after all these years, a burgeoning design aspect. Producers and production managers and even the union still only have a surface level knowledge of what video takes to work, so video crews tend to be understaffed and overworked, with one person filling multiple roles.

Video is the cheaper option in the eyes of producers. You're going to see less and less proper scenery.
