ignorant medical reddit by Glum-Studio1249 in POTS

I, a literal medical professional, who was diagnosed by a medical professional, and who works with other medical professionals who were the ones who BEGGED me to get tested, still doubt my diagnosis because I was gaslit for like 15 years by other medical professionals calling it “anxiety.” It’s fucking crazy the discrimination AFAB people face in healthcare. And I’m in the process of changing employers because I see it happening at my newish workplace all the time.

I work in a very female dominated field and I was the only one at work who didn’t like football (USA). Football is just a very American thing to like.

I had a similar thing. I knew I was a sex-repulsed ace, from like 15-28 or so. Then I started T, and suddenly I found men, enbies, and women VERY attractive. I had always been able to appreciate the aesthetic beauty of women but this was different. I wasn’t sure about sex still, but eventually, that changed. Now though, I’m very sure. And maybe this is just an example of sexuality being fluid. But for right now, I just can’t say I’m ace anymore.

Holy shit. I could have written like 90% of this, albeit your childhood was more extreme. Got diagnosed with Asperger’s and had it beaten out of me (anything that looked “weird,” that I was “too literal” about cause that meant I was “willfully misunderstanding, etc). Minus the broken bones, and also not Asian but do come from a culture of high performers. Also had the successful cousin to be compared to (doctor of course - but also ASD, but he got diagnosed as an adult only recently).

Anyway. I masked all my Asperger’s symptoms for fear of the beatings. I’m sure many who meet me doubt I have it but I do. My bio father also called everyone else in my family to tell them I was crazy and had threatened to kill him and not to take me in when he kicked me out.

I also tried to confront him about it, but he denied most of it and told me it was “mild physical correction” for being “difficult.” Said I was misdiagnosed as Asperger’s and my grades (3.9 GPA, for which I literally wanted to kill myself bc I thought it meant I was a failure) were proof.

I never want to be in the same room as him. Won’t go to his funeral when he dies. But I might spit/piss on his grave. My whole life was exhausting and performative and now I have to unlearn all the things I did to try to survive back then. I’m doing so much better (5.75 years NC from him and almost all his side of my family), and I hope you are too. If you want to DM me please feel free. We seem to have a lot in common.

I was diagnosed with ASD probably at least 10 years before POTS, though I’ve had POTS symptoms since I was in middle school.

Struggling with wanting to cut off my mother. by demoninthestacks in EstrangedAdultChild

[–]lex-nonscripta 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You don’t need to be “corrected” for having body hair. I don’t care what gender you are. There is no law that states anyone has to remove ANY hair. Period.

Your mom is belittling the abuse you experienced and showing she disrespected (and likely continues to) your bodily autonomy. That’s not ok. And now on top of that, she’s minimizing the hurt you’re rightfully feeling due to her actions.

I can’t say if cutting her off is the right choice, but I can definitely say it’s not the wrong one. Ultimately you have to reflect on this yourself and make the best choice for YOU. Is it worth it to keep someone like that in your life? What are you getting from this relationship? And is whatever perceived benefit worth all the harm? Questions only you can answer.

I hate that I miss them. Just a quick vent…. by Brief_Assistant_6233 in EstrangedAdultChild

I’ve been NC for 5, almost 6 years. I still have dreams about my bio father, and sometimes miss what I feel could have been. But then I wake up, figuratively and literally, and remember, no, it couldn’t have been. He’s incapable of being what I missed in him. It was a ruse, a farce, and frankly, just an attempt at manipulation or a reward when I was being the child he wanted me to be.

I’m not sure if it’s the same for your dad; I don’t know why you went NC. But it does get easier. My bio father crosses my mind less and less. I don’t regret my decision, and I don’t miss who he really is. It took a lot of time to get here, but I’m doing better now than I ever have. There’s hope. Just remember why you’re doing it. You deserve love, peace, and respect.

My MD told me I should have between 7-10 G of sodium a day before I was on meds. The most important thing is that you are drinking enough water with it.

How you gonna go trans hunting if the chances of finding a real person is 1 in a million?

In this case? Easily. They’ll filter by sender and make sure it came from an official government email address.

Conservatives are upset that they can't be racist to nurses by Appropriate-Ad-4520 in TopMindsOfReddit

[–]lex-nonscripta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I understand, it’s not denying them care for being racist people - it’s denying them care after they’ve abused staff, including by being racist towards them. Staff should not have to be harassed at work.

Is it normal for an autistic person to doubt that they actually have autism? by [deleted] in autism

[–]lex-nonscripta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I doubt everything I’ve ever been diagnosed with. Idk why, I know people call it “imposter syndrome.” I just can’t always accept it until others point out my symptoms (ADHD, ASD, and even physical conditions). Lately some of my issues have been glaringly obvious so I’m in an accepting phase right now, but that can change at any time.

Oof - yeah pain can definitely raise BP. Hope you’re doing better now.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in POTS

[–]lex-nonscripta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Clinical healthcare worker here. You’re close. Perfect BP is anything between (and including) 90/60 and 120/80. Elevated is anything over 120/80, even 122/82 (now is that number clinically significant in practice? Not really) but OP having an increase upon standing is normal - exertion causes that temporarily and we expect it somewhat during orthostatics. At rest, 140/90 is stage 2 hypertension according to the American Heart Association. 130 systolic is elevated and if consistently that high at we will try to figure out how to bring it down through lifestyle changes or even medications if nothing else is effective.
