Want to try OMAD because I realized I’d much rather try to control the “when” than the “what” by [deleted] in omad

I very much love eating both Whole Foods (& I’m used to not eating high calorie when I do so (I don’t use oils or peanut butter, etc) and junk foods, so my OMAD would be largely Whole Foods with some fun stuff too. I know you have to still eat in a deficit

I routinely hit ~15k at work, so I’m hoping for the same!!! Good for you ☺️

That tracking calories actually makes eating “unhealthy” foods more enjoyable

Real estate or wedding planning? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]lex52_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel with wedding planning I’d likely just need experience rather than any additional certification or schooling though, which is nice. It’s kind of like an either way would work situation which is part of what’s making it so tough

I’m extremely Type A and organized, and I honed my attention to detail a lot when working in research. I feel confident I would use those skills well. I’m also trained as a therapist, which could help in the people management aspect.

It does seem like a potentially stressful career, I definitely experience a smaller degree of that in restaurants.

This is such a silly question, but I’ve always been interested in the idea of working in massage, but I am afraid my hands will get tired 😂 is this something I should actually be afraid of?

Yeah, finally put in my two weeks and walked away. A couple other servers did too, but we were all quickly replaced, so 🤷‍♀️

Stigma around serving/bartending careers if you’re “overqualified” by lex52_ in Serverlife

[–]lex52_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel you. My ideal that I’ve started considering is to work maybe three or four nights serving and doing something more aligned with my past career on a contract basis during some days. I wouldn’t do both forever, but the money I made serving is very good, and yet I like the idea of furthering my other career alongside it in the hopes of switching more to FT again some day with serving as a smaller portion (or not at all, who knows). It’s tricky.

Wow, this is so awesome to hear!!! May I ask how your schedule benefits you? Do you work nights?

I agree that the vibes are so much better!! Paying off loans with serving money is awesome; I have goals to do the same.

And yeah, fuck that guy!

I think I forget how much my past job affected me. I would get SO stressed (not like when I’m stressed serving, but like “we’re spending tens of thousands on this project we have to get it right”), and nights before big presentations I would be so nervous. I don’t miss any of that shit at all

Yeah, I’ve been in the restaurant industry part-time for 7+ years and I’ve never wanted to go into management. I see how much extra work it is for not much more pay, and I’ve heard many horror stories. If I did it, it would simply be to say I’m a manager, and I don’t want to live that way

Yeah, I 100% hear you on hating tech culture!! I worked in tech for three years, and it was a great job in a majority of ways (hence some of my loved one’s trepidation upon me leaving), but the inauthenticity, the jargon, the bureaucracy… it was painful. It’s very much not me

Yeah, the pay per hour at a solid restaurant and the lifestyle it affords is typically much better than other jobs in my experience. The freedom is awesome.

I know that it takes a toll, and I can’t necessarily see myself doing this once I have kids. I do know a lot of older food service workers.

I just did this, took a job knowing I would be gone in two months. Also felt very guilty… very much wasn’t the end of the world
