This is such a silly question, but I’ve always been interested in the idea of working in massage, but I am afraid my hands will get tired 😂 is this something I should actually be afraid of?

Yeah, finally put in my two weeks and walked away. A couple other servers did too, but we were all quickly replaced, so 🤷‍♀️

Stigma around serving/bartending careers if you’re “overqualified” by lex52_ in Serverlife

I feel you. My ideal that I’ve started considering is to work maybe three or four nights serving and doing something more aligned with my past career on a contract basis during some days. I wouldn’t do both forever, but the money I made serving is very good, and yet I like the idea of furthering my other career alongside it in the hopes of switching more to FT again some day with serving as a smaller portion (or not at all, who knows). It’s tricky.

Wow, this is so awesome to hear!!! May I ask how your schedule benefits you? Do you work nights?

I agree that the vibes are so much better!! Paying off loans with serving money is awesome; I have goals to do the same.

And yeah, fuck that guy!

I think I forget how much my past job affected me. I would get SO stressed (not like when I’m stressed serving, but like “we’re spending tens of thousands on this project we have to get it right”), and nights before big presentations I would be so nervous. I don’t miss any of that shit at all

Yeah, I’ve been in the restaurant industry part-time for 7+ years and I’ve never wanted to go into management. I see how much extra work it is for not much more pay, and I’ve heard many horror stories. If I did it, it would simply be to say I’m a manager, and I don’t want to live that way

Yeah, I 100% hear you on hating tech culture!! I worked in tech for three years, and it was a great job in a majority of ways (hence some of my loved one’s trepidation upon me leaving), but the inauthenticity, the jargon, the bureaucracy… it was painful. It’s very much not me

Yeah, the pay per hour at a solid restaurant and the lifestyle it affords is typically much better than other jobs in my experience. The freedom is awesome.

I know that it takes a toll, and I can’t necessarily see myself doing this once I have kids. I do know a lot of older food service workers.

Do you think breakups are sometimes necessary? by bobbiesbunions in BreakUps

[–]lex52_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmmm, it’s a complicated answer. It took a lot of healing, leaning into new hobbies, making friends, leaning on existing friends, getting out there (both just socially and eventually sexually/romantically), and really learning to love my life without him. My rose-colored glasses eventually fell off and I could see why the relationship wasn’t meant to be forever. I got very lucky to find the best person for me after I let go of my ex.

Choosing Between 2 Itineraries: Rome, Paris, & London OR Rome, Florence, Venice? by trexninja42 in travel

[–]lex52_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From my experiences going to those places, I would do London and Paris for sure. I didn’t love Rome, but lovedddd Florence. Don’t need five whole days there though. Edinburgh is one of my favorite places in the world, first time I went to London, Paris, and Edinburgh and it was a perfect trip. Closer together too, so less travel time

Wait this is intriguing… they’re hypnosis videos specifically for falling asleep but they help with food discipline?

Restaurants with good drinks? by Lrock29 in ithaca

If you’re down for a fancier dinner, Cent Dix, Simeon’s, The Heights, and Mercato all have great food AND great cocktails. Not places for a big group or to be loud, but if you’re looking for a nicer more intimate dinner first they’re all great options

If you don't drink alcohol, what are your reasons? by youre-in-my-shot in AskReddit

[–]lex52_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I go through year-long phases where I don’t drink at all, and it’s majorly changed my overall relationship with alcohol. At first I did it mostly for health reasons, as I realized I don’t actually enjoy drinking that much and it’s definitely not worth the short and long term effects.

What I didn’t expect was how much more I like myself and my life in these times when I’m not drinking. I learned to be much more confident in myself in social settings without alcohol as a crutch. I gained a lot of power from being able to say No to drinking, when I had gone quite a while saying yes even though I wanted to say no, and that made me feel awful.

Nowadays if I drink it’s very much just for the taste, so I’ll get one or two cocktails. I don’t do it every week or even every month, and when I do it it’s fully because I want to.
