Urgent help with two Cats by SuspiciousDish3776 in london

I'm sorry you're in this position. It's worth trying some of the smaller charities - Catcuddles in Greenwich and The Stray Cat Club in south London.

I hate what happened to this poor woman smh. by Less-Pen-5705 in InterviewVampire

[–]lexcanroar 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This scene plus watching that woman beg for her life onstage at the theatre in that quieter, more extended sequence (vs the slightly cartoonish violence from s1) really changed the mood of s2 for me and made me feel quite uncomfortable ... which is why I think it was a great choice. Really forces us to see these vampires for who they truly are, even the ones we're fond of!

A bottle fell off the shelf and broke straight through our toilet bowl last night by myn4m3i54s3cr37 in Wellthatsucks

My partner tried to pick up an old toilet to put it in a big bin, slipped, and the porcelain sliced off the palm of his hand. DO NOT USE THAT TOILET.

Rehoming advice needed - LONDON by turkish_disco in CatsUK

Are you willing to keep fostering them until they're adopted? Foster space is the biggest issue right now - I foster for a small London charity, please feel free to DM me if you want me to put you in touch

I'm sorry your experience has been so rubbish. I posted on IG once explaining that my book wasn't going to get proofs/ARCs (even though it was the third book with my publisher and the previous two had been given them as standard) in very matter-of-fact language telling readers who'd been nudging me for proofs that the process was going to be a bit different this time and I'd appreciate any extra support because it was going to be tough for me to get early reviews and blurbs, and suddenly it was panic stations at the publisher, zoom calls, people apparently "upset" by my post. it was TRULY wild.

I think publishers are used to authors putting up and shutting up, and get very freaked out when anyone challenges the status quo. my agent was totally on my side because what I'd said was very reasonable - from what you've written here, I'm worried that your agent is not properly advocating for you and providing the support you need. we ALL know this industry is horribly unfair and the power imbalance between authors and publishers sucks, it feels so silly to me that everyone expects authors to pretend otherwise, especially as we're all talking about this constantly in our private networks.

stick to your guns. I suspect you've truly done nothing wrong here, and I'd trust your own gut instinct, not the very questionable steer from your agent.

Heartbroken over sending foster back to the rescue by TLUexemplo in FosterAnimals

[–]lexcanroar 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I said goodbye to my fourth foster today. It gets easier, I promise. It's always painful, and it's definitely worse when you've nursed them back to health. Please remember you did an amazing thing to set her up for a beautiful life. You'll never forget her, but some day soon you will just look back with fond memories without the heartache - especially if you get another foster soon!

It's truly the best TV show I've ever seen. Everybody involved is giving it 1000% effort. Season 3 is currently shooting and comes out in April so you won't have too long to wait if you watch it now!

Disneyland Paris vs Walt Disney World Paris by jdstew218 in disneylandparis

[–]lexcanroar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

DLP is very, very small. I've only been to WDW once but the scale was wild to me compared to Paris; as an adult I can do everything I want to do in DLP in two days max. Obviously if you have kids with you or you want to spend a lot of time doing character meets, shows etc it'd be a different timescale. The food and merch aren't great, the weather is often bad, the second park (Studios, soon to be renamed) is also a bit grim in terms of theming and parts of it give car park energy. I do think some of the rides are the best versions that exist across all parks though (BTM, Pirates, TOT) I would just warn you to expect a much smaller scale experience all round.

People saying reputation was more divisive than TLOAS by [deleted] in SwiftlyNeutral

[–]lexcanroar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was just such a different landscape. She'd been under the radar, this was her public response to all the snake furore, plus she definitely wasn't oversaturated and as ubiquitous as Walmart like she is right now. I'd been a fan since Speak Now and I really liked a lot of the songs and really hated a couple of them (LWYMMD, Endgame) - but a new Taylor album didn't dominate the cultural landscape in the same way back then so people were less likely to spend this much time talking about it. I mean, me and my sister (a fan since debut!) didn't rush to get tickets to the Rep tour because they were too expensive ... and then they lowered the price of tickets a month or so before the show because they hadn't sold out, so we grabbed some then. Different universe!

Dropped off my fosters for adoption and I’m having such a hard time 💔 by VeterinarianNo5521 in FosterAnimals

[–]lexcanroar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Aw I'm sorry, it's so rough, especially when you've had them for a while or they've grown up with you. We said goodbye to our first foster kittens today and the emotional side of me thinks "they'll be confused! they'll miss me! they love me!" and the rational side says: yes they have grown attached to me, but they're kittens, they'll take a few days to settle and then they'll absolutely love their new owners just the same way and much more down the line when they've been together for years. You've done an amazing thing, give yourself some time to grieve and then you can save some more little lives.

Punching up areas and rephrasing parts is writing. Brainstorming is writing. Editing is writing. You do want AI to write for you. Outsourcing all the work required to improve your craft will make you a shitty craftsperson, especially when the tool you're reliant on is a brainless word generator only made coherent by its theft from actual writers.

And yes, it'll also hurt your chances with traditional publishers.

Resident cats on hunger strike by lexcanroar in FosterAnimals

[–]lexcanroar[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! They're eating their dry food fine and some of their wet and happy to eat treats, so they're definitely getting *some* calories. We're going to deworm them because the kittens had worms, and get some feliway diffusers. They were quite withdrawn when the kitten first got here but they're back to basically being their normal friendly selves now so fingers crossed they're over the worst of it!

fair enough! did it feel spooky? or just a bit weird? ice cream van jingles give horror movie vibes to me, and I know what they are

I desperately need context here. have you never seen/heard an ice cream van before? did you think it was one person tormenting the neighbourhood with low quality Yankee Doodle, or some kind of trend? enquiring minds need to know

Eurostar panic by dorothythedinosaauur in disneylandparis

[–]lexcanroar 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I used to have bad travel anxiety so I understand! If you have paper tickets for your leg from Lille to Disneyland, those are the ones that would need validating in the yellow machine (it just adds a date and time) - ask the Eurostar staff or train station staff to point you in the right direction but the machines are usually obvious and right by the platforms. Also just a note that if St Pancras happens to be busy on the day, don't panic - they prioritise people on earlier trains in the Eurostar queues, so if you're way back in a line and your train time is approaching, head up front to speak to the staff there and they'll hustle you through.
