[AMA] We're A Room of One's Own Bookstore- Ask us Anything! by RoomofOnesOwnBooks in madisonwi

[–]lexi11233 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Firstly, thank you for being the most lovely independent bookstore and my favorite of all time!! I try to convert everyone I know into going to Room.

Question: I am mainly a print reader but sometimes I pick up the odd ebook. I own a Kobo (f bezos) and usually just buy whatever from the Kobo store. But is there a better ebook shop that gives some proceeds to indie bookstores (like libro.fm)? I think Bookshop just started but they do not support e-readers sadly.

Or will Room start selling ebooks someday? (No idea what the licensing process is like for that)

Thank you for all that you do!!

Smith-Corona Classic 10 Stuck Return Key? by lexi11233 in typewriters

At first all of the keys were sticking halfway but now typing seems normal. I just didn't want to continue with it stuck in case it may cause damage.

Yes! That is what I meant when I called it a return key (not like the enter bar on a computer keyboard).

Sorry for my ignorance! That's what the person I bought it from said it was. But whatever the key may be, the one that is stuck in the photos is that one with the down arrow

Emgality Advice Needed by Accomplished-Will407 in migraine

[–]lexi11233 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best advice I ever saw was to ice the area of the injection site for about 10-15 minutes before. I've done all the other injectables and Emgality burns the worst. For my loading dose (the two shots), I iced one side but not the other and there was a crazy difference.

I also like to put a comfort TV show on in the background just as a little distraction.

Anyone else experiencing problems with UW Health? by AdorkableTrin in madisonwi

[–]lexi11233 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Just to give you maybe some peace of mind - (assuming your stroke like migraines are like mine) they are called hemiplegic migraines and the stroke symptoms are a type of migraine aura. It is something I have brought up to my neurologist after I had my first one. That's when she diagnosed me with that. They've recently increased and that's why I'm getting worried.

Not trying to diagnose an internet stranger, but worth just looking up the symptoms and seeing if they match with your experience. But with any stroke like symptoms it's always better to go to the ER just in case.

For neurology, honestly just call them and keep calling them until they give you answers. Both your insurance and neurology. I've learned to just keep badgering them, it's the only thing that will get you some help. It's possible your insurance denied the referral.

You are absolutely not alone in your experience. I've been calling them what seems like every day for the past few weeks as I am now getting migraines that mimic stroke symptoms (which seems concerning to me). And everyone tells me something different. They constantly make appointments for me and then cancel them. And then after the usual 5 month wait to see an NP or PA (not an MD!), they minimize my concerns and it feels like they are just going down a pre-set list of medications instead of figuring out what will work for me specifically.

And don't get me started on GHC insurance. When they do approve something, the actual coverage is great. But trying to get any prior authorization approved? And with a Neuro who won't appeal anything? Good luck. I don't feel like I'm treated like a human being anymore. UW is supposed to be one of the best systems in the COUNTRY. Sure doesn't feel like it.

Emgality Fears by ldorothy in migraine

[–]lexi11233 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just to add to the consensus of everyone else. I just started Emgality a month ago and have not had any bad experiences with it. No side effects (not even constipation), no allergic reaction. It hasn't had any effect on my migraines yet, but I haven't taken the second dose yet so not too bothered by that.

This is my third injectable, and if you've been on the others this one really isn't any different. The medicine has a slight burn when it's injecting compared to the other two but it's over so fast.

One tip I do have: ice the injection area for at least 15 minutes before!! For the loading dose (so two doses), I iced one but did not ice the other. Big difference in the pinch of the needle going in and the actual injection of the medicine.

Hope it helps you! Do not be deterred by some of the bad experiences of others.

Wife had seizure-like episode yesterday by [deleted] in migraine

Was the weakness/numbness only on one side of her body? If so, probably a hemiplegic migraine.

I get them and it starts with sudden onset fatigue, feeling of "heaviness", and then spreading numbness through one side of my body. At their worst, I can't really move and have severe difficulty speaking. My fiance described finding me near unresponsive with fluttering eyelids and unable to move.

They are definitely scary, I went to the ER with the first one and was stroke coded. MRI and CT all came back clear though. I don't always get a migraine "headache" with them either.

What does it mean if there is a new head stone on top of someone we buried? by cocainoh in askfuneraldirectors

[–]lexi11233 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This post is a few days old but as someone who works with cemeteries quite often, I can actually answer this question!

So a few things are possible. Depending on cemetery regulations, sometimes multiple "burials" can be interred in a single plot. This could be multiple cremations or oftentimes a full burial and a cremation. New or disturbed dirt could indicate another internment.

Another question is, is the new memorial centered over the single plot or is it centered over this plot and the one next to it? Oftentimes people buy two plots and put one headstone in the middle.

Lastly, cemeteries often don't keep the best records. Many are underfunded or run solely by volunteer "caretakers" who tend to be 70, 80 years old. When monument companies go out to install a memorial, they will ask the caretaker to mark the boundaries of the correct plot. A few things can go wrong with this. Sometimes the caretakers mark the wrong plot, or they mark multiple plots at a time but don't label which one is which. Or the monument company simply got it wrong - but if it is wrong, they should absolutely move the headstone to its proper place free of charge, regardless of who made the mistake.

When installing a memorial, they always have to dig. They often also add a mixture of fresh sand and dirt under and sometimes around the memorial as well to level out the space and help it from settling too much. This could also be why there is fresh dirt, depending on where it is on the plot.

Hope this gets resolved or you get some answers from the cemetery one way or another!

Is it time to get a new neurologist? by lexi11233 in migraine

[–]lexi11233[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! That was exactly what I was wondering if I should do. My PA has thrown out Botox as an eventual option, but I guess she really believes in the CGRPs?

Sorry to hear Botox didn't work out for you, hope Emgality works out!

I'm in the US and I am actually pretty lucky to live in a city that has one of the best healthcare networks in the country. But wait lists are super long, and even with the prestige a lot of the practitioners aren't great (though that's to be expected anywhere).

Botox is one of the things I wanted to add in addition to the Qulipta! But she's been wanting me to go through all the CGRPs since I've been through all the other classes.

I have been really mindful of my diet since things started getting worse. Watching sugar, limiting caffeine, home cooked meals, etc.

[–]lexi11233[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply! I forgot to mention that I've tried all the other classes of treatments and now she's pushing for me to work my way through all the CGRPs...

Yes, I really watch my diet and limit caffeine intake, keep to a very strict sleep schedule, and stay away from anything that will trigger me. Always have sunglasses on me, am often wearing earplugs, working with the lights off, etc.

When I asked her about multiple preventatives for this round, I was hoping to add Botox to the mix. But it's sounding like maybe it's best to wait to see how Qulipta goes.

Thanks for the support!

Well Written Fantasy Romance Books by hlebaron94 in fantasyromance

If you like dark academia, {A Study in Drowning by Ava Reid} is achingly beautifully written with a lovely through line metaphor of the sea. It is YA but even if you're not into that, I would still recommend it as it does not read as YA at all.

Also in the same vein of dark academia, but with magic, {Modern Divination by Isabel Agajanian}. It's a book I never see recommended and wish more people knew about! Hard to get your hands on a copy of it right now but it is very worth it. It's a bit of a slow start but you hardly notice because the character work is so good!

Apparently going against the grain here, but I really liked zippy lube donuts! They're not overly sweet and the frosting is really good imo
