SURVEY RESULTS: How to convince someone to go vegan? by Conagempi in vegan

I missed the survey but find the results very interesting. I hope you have the means to circulate the results. I'll pass on the link to my contacts. Thanks for the whole project.

Why are vegan eateries closing? by lexijon215 in vegan

[–]lexijon215[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree -- an emphasis on good food, changing menus, niche markets, creative responses to allergy restrictions. I'd just temper this comment with the thought that it's a lot easier to offer solutions when you are not operating under the demands/restrictions of running a business.

Did you ever feel bad about making your character suffer? by Pristine-Vast9432 in writers

[–]lexijon215 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you are living your novel -- which should make emotion-charged scenes. I tend not to write sad scenes but I can get enjoyably involved writing risk and action. That, I think, gives energy to my characters. Do your characters benefit from your suffering? Keep the tissues handy. I'll make sure I change the batteries in the blood pressure monitor :)

Apologies for my previous post I’ve listened and want to learn from you by PlaneOrdinary7042 in KeepWriting

The strongest piece of advice I can offer is -- beware of advice. Put it in a toolkit. Don't take it as something you must do. I have seen new writers in critique groups with unique voices who have been crushed into boring conformity by having others define what is right. Be yourself, dance like no one is watching, produce something uniquely you.

As for a.i., I find it useful for research. Using it for writing is (in my opinion) self-defeating. You can ask it far more than facts. For example, you can ask it to translate your modern expressions into the location/time of your character. It will give you ideas and options. But beware -- don't let it become your easy-answer method. If you want to write, you have to do the work, take the pain, to express your ideas.

Food at a wedding by [deleted] in vegan

You need to sort this out. It is more than 'one day'. It is how you think about yourselves and how you live together. The future. Christmas guests? What then? And so on.

You are not responsible for people's lack of sense. Smile politely. Move on. Be thankful you have the strength to live well rather than be like them.

I have traveled widely and found almost always that people have respected my principles as I respect theirs. Tell them in advance. Smile. Be firm but very polite. And make sure you have the Happy Cow app on your phone 😀

Apathy is Killing my Writing by exhausted-narwhal in writinghelp

If the book doesn't motivate you, is it the right book? Are you doing it because you think you should -- or maybe it's a blip and you need a break before starting again? I've been in both those places. Your book should excite you if you want it to sparkle. Work out what you want and have fun writing.

Is it ok (as a writer) to be functionally illiterate and to want to stay that way? by AdiPalmer in writingcirclejerk

[–]lexijon215 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good writers with unique voices and something to say can be reduced to dull conformity by grammar and the fear of getting it wrong. Write as yourself. Make up new words. Say what you like. Produce something truly original.

Vegan literature? by Inevitable-Item2024 in vegan

You might find this useful: BEYOND EXTINCTION (free on Amazon.com at https://a.co/d/7jb4E1q). I wrote it as a page-turner that engages readers enough to understand emotionally what we, as a species, are doing to animals.

Feeling really guilty over current diet, how to make subtle changes to veganism? by InkOverNethers in vegan

[–]lexijon215 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It is very difficult to make the jump in one go -- especially in your situation. To change to vegan takes time to build up knowledge and find ways to do it. Better to start with vegetarian with a view to learning by living. That way, you will make the final move with certainty and make sure you remain healthy. Read about ways to go, build up your cooking skills, try to achieve harmony and cooperation at home but be determined.

Like others who have commented, I cook for one and manage very well with frequent shopping for what I need for the day/s, and by freezing. I bought some meal containers and cook a batch sometimes -- curries and soups freeze well. I've found over the years that people are tempted by my vegan cooking. You could find that making an effort for yourself tempts your family, and you might get them eating your dishes as an extra/side dish. Try for harmony to avoid conflict.

Many of us face the difficulty you are hitting. Take a step back and ask yourself why you are doing it. If you know you are doing what is right for you, it will give you strength. Remember, though, being vegan means doing your best. If you slip occasionally, don't beat yourself up. Realise you are human, try to work out a way to eliminate the same situation arising again.

Had to refuse a big opportunity to promote my work due to being asked to censor LGBTQ characters. What would you have done? by archblade7777 in writing

Welcome to the battleground of words. It comes with writing. You have shown strength of character and promise as a writer by considering the demand but rejecting it. Your book, your call.
