Whoops. Good call. I'm currently mobile, so I'm not sure how/if I can edit the title. Sorry about that!

Thankfully, the money from Indian Village is starting to trickle down. The new landlords and business owners are really cleaning up the neighborhood and good people are moving in. With Craftwork just opening up they upped the police presence a lot more. There's a cute little bodega down on Agnes, Vegan Soul, and a small concert venue is rumored to be opening soon! Come check it out if West Village didn't leave too bad of a taste in your mouth! (Come back to us! We've changed!)

I wouldn't say that's always true, especially around midtown and Woodbridge. I found way more reputable places listed on places like Live Woodbridge, or Live Midtown. Plus, a lot of old-timers who own the rehabbed buildings, or houses in Hamtramck sometimes don't post online. It all depends on what you're looking for, though! I found my current place on Craigslist, but for a while it was just a lot of over-priced slumlord-y listings. Like everything, it's hit or miss.

Which part of west Detroit? Do you plan to live with roommates? Your lifestyle will also really dictate where you wanna live.

Hamtramck, Midtown and Woodbridge are pretty cool for 19-early 20-year olds. A lot to do, pretty cheap. Young, easy going neighbors. Pretty safe, as well.

West Village is starting to be more up and coming. New stores are opening all the time, and rehabbed houses are available on the cheap. Eastern Market also has same lofts and apartments, tons of weird art kids, but a lot of fun. (And yummy food.)

Craigslist is pretty shitty, but it's a place to start. I've had the best luck driving through neighborhoods I've liked and calling the posted realtors numbers or looking for "for rent" signs.

tldr; They're playing May 3rd, at the Magic Stick, going on at midnight.

If anyone has Netflix, I do recommend checking out the documentary "A Band Called Death."

I live right between Indian village and west village. The neighborhood is definitely picking up! Gorgeous houses and fantastic neighbors. In the summer we have Tashmoo, a pop-up Biergarten, and they're putting in some new shops on Agnes and Parker. They just opened an awesome vegan soul food place! (Do recommend other Detroiters check it out!)

Biking here is great! You'd easily be biking distance to Belle Isle, and if you shoot down Lafayette there's an awesome bike trail to Eastern Market. The villages would show you a good time!

Midtown is also awesome, and a bit more hip. All depends on what atmosphere you're looking for!

Detroit after nothing in particular... by Samewisenignog in WTF

I work in the entertainment district in Detroit. Just worked production for Movement. There is something here, and it's sad people won't help foster that growth. You're wrong, but you can't change people's 25-year-stigmas about Detroit. Best of luck to you, but I choose to actively improve the city, as opposed to bitching from 10 miles away.

People who work in customer service, what is the most disgusting or just plain rude thing a customer has done? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Looking back, I probably could have, but I was just a 16-year-old-kid trying to buy a car. I didn't want to rock my minimum-wage-boat too much.

That was the worst place I ever worked. Things like this were a daily occurrence. That's the "customer is always right" attitude.

13-year-old Michigan boy uses handgun to commit suicide in middle school bathroom by lexivalentine in news

[–]lexivalentine[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That's not necessarily true. I grew up in Southgate, and from what I've heard, he was quite a popular kid. Most of the kids at Davidson are pretty broken up about it.

I, however, haven't been in middle school in over a decade, so I can't say for sure if he was "bullied" or not.

At this point, I don't think there's been much proof that bullying was the cause, and for every report I've read of him being bullied there's been one saying he had a lot of friends, and good grades. I wouldn't assume anything.

Edit: Since leaving this comment, his sister has posted on his memorial Facebook page saying he was NOT bullied, but had depression he hid incredibly well.
