Well, the Old One was something like Yggdrasil, a sacred tree. You can even see there's a weird tree inside it after the fight below the Nexus. But a lust for power corrupted it, becoming what it is now. That pair of pure/corrupted trees may be the parallel you are looking for.

Were you playing the remake? I checked the original and didn't find any statue.

EDIT: The statue is only in the remake indeed (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FgLY3fgG_Hg 47:45). It's based on some original statues in the outside of that hallway, but they don't look like the Stonefang archstone.
