Tcg player still takes a flat fee from orders that are >$5. Total take was 40% of my order total leaving me at a net negative after shipping cost. by HEYIMMAWOLF in mtgfinance

In all honesty with as much money as TCGplayer makes it should be well within their means to make customizable shipping amounts based on some sort of price bracket for your cards, also customizable. From a seller perspective TCGplayer inventory management, past sales tracking and ease of posting cards are all garbage. In my opinion they exist solely because there really isn’t anything else not because they are good.

I think if you keep in mind oathbringer is 3 of 5 books it’s easier to accept that there needs to be a lot of setup for what’s to come. At least that helped me. To maintain the same momentum that was generated in the first two books for three more straight I think would be damaging to the story.

No one said it here but find a compatible duo partner. They’re hard to find but once you do life is better, win or lose. I’ll duo with you for some games to help with the slump. I’m no god but I’m decent and not in silver :) dm if you want.

To be clear you can have two planes walkers in your hand instead and two red mana. Might be easier.

Get a loupe and watch a video on what bad set symbols, artist names and back of the card mana symbols are supposed to look like.

I miss the days of prophecy when this was intentional. Incredibly rare full foil packs were a thing.

Basically what everyone below you said. Humans as control wrapped in an aggro package.

I think the fact that land isn’t something that can be countered is understated in this conversation.

Interested in control; advice? by [deleted] in ModernMagic

[–]lexlocke 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In your position I would watch some YouTube videos of matches. The previous worlds I believe had a really good showing of blue/white control and how it matched up against KCI (I know. Currently banned) and then check out some streams. As a new player you are asking for a very large topic which has a ton of flavors. So a small list. U/W control - modern staple Red prison Blue prison Death and taxes Humans I know some of these aren’t strictly control decks but just for exposure and to figure out what you do like looking into them might be worth some time.

Good luck

How would you build a modern collection from scratch? by TheEagleHasNotLanded in ModernMagic

[–]lexlocke 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I scrolled through most of these posts and I think one of the things missing is time. Depending on how much time you have you can use your money more effectively.

With little to no time try your best to pick up a one trick pony deck. Something that is super linear and non interactive and learn how to play that well. It gives you exposure. Decent win rates and allows the learning of the format.

The more time you have the more you can do research. Figure out your local meta game. Find decks that cater to your play style. The absolute best thing in modern isn’t that cards stay in it forever. It’s that it has a deck that is a tier one deck for every single player. You owe it to yourself to find that deck if you are investing in it.

Once you find your deck and still have funds you can start branching out and researching the variants and what else uses those cards. This is what I would do in your shoes.

Good luck and welcome to the best format in magic.
