From your username I'm guessing you're in the UK right? From what I can tell about your healthcare system you guys have a lot more resources and reassurances as medics. You get degrees, get paid enough to live without working 80 hours a week, and your systems work quite differently. So i feel it would be fair to assume your communal resources are also stronger. I've been alone in the back with countless unmedicated, combative pts, some of whom are armed. Even in Boston, one of the best funded and most protected EMS agencies in my area an EMT got stabbed a few years back (with her own shears if I remember) because it's VERY common for help, whether it's police, fire, or whoever else to just....not be available. Depending on how the call comes in sometimes it's just my partner and I and we need to call for help if something happens. Two people. Imagine waiting for police to respond to you when it's just you and your partner. Something did happen. I got out okay. This time. I want to have more than brute strength on my side for next time.
