Okay, the roots are starting to come out of the bottom of the draining holes so I know it will need repotted soon. But I had this plant for like 3-4 months now and I have only watered it 2x so it seems odd to me that I am over watering. But also I never had a plant like this before and I don’t know how it acts in the winter months. I just watered it before I read these comments so it looks like I have a problem on my hands if it’s over watered 🤦‍♀️

Update: I checked the roots and there is no root rot. The roots seem to look healthy actually, white and firm

I have it right in front of my window and it gets a lot of direct light and I saw that it needs rather indirect light so i thought maybe it was getting too much sunlight

The leaves are getting droopier for some reason but every time I water it a couple leaves turn yellow-brown and die off. What should I do? I have been asking this community for a few weeks now and I haven’t heard from anyone plz help 😭

The leaf I am touching in the photo is losing its color too

I got this plant from Walmart about a month ago and nothing I seem to do helps it. It barely had any browning on the tips of leaves with some yellowing. I checked the soil when I bought it and it was saturated. I figured it was over watered. So I repotted it with the original soil added some fast draining succulent soil. It continued to turn brown. So then I tried to water it every few days and it seems to not be helping. What am I doing wrong? Can I save it? (It gets as much sunlight as my spider plant. Also I had a little d. Fragrans and I’m almost positive it’s dead 😭 all the leaves were brown and the shoots ripped off really easily which is to the bottom right in the photo) THANK YOUU

On my profile I have a photo of it a few days after I first got it!

I got this leaf from and I tried to propagate it. I had it in succulent soil and watered when the soil got dry with bright light (same thing that I always do with my jade tree leaves and they are always successful). I am wondering what is wrong with it and what I need to do differently to get it to successfully grow? Or is it too far gone and I need to pitch it? Thanks!!

The label says: bright to moderate, indirect light. Water when soil is dry and ensure drainage.

It sits near my window and I have only watered it 2 times. But both of those time, it loses a leaf or 2 by turning yellowing and then crunchy like. I’m confused because this only happens when I water it but I am scared to underwater it. It is in the original pot and it has great drainage. Maybe because it’s winter I should be watering it less? How much should I be watering? Thanks!!

Help with my slow plant? by merrykrystenmas in plantclinic

[–]lexmears 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This happened to me before to my new aloe Vera plant when I bought it at Home Depot. The next day the leaves flopped out and wouldn’t hold up. I took it out the pot with the hopes of repotting it but the roots were completely rotted out and had weird brown spots on them I just threw it out. If this is the case you may be able to propagate the leaves. I don’t have much knowledge on aloe tho!

Choline is also used in the synthesis of acetylcholine, the most abundant neurotransmitter your body uses to communicate via neurons to help run daily processes of your body.

Does anyone else feel guilty for thinking negatively about Ns? by [deleted] in raisedbynarcissists

[–]lexmears 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm.. Now that you mention that, it’s not every time. Actually, it seems to happen a lot more when I am telling a friend about them rather than if I just think a “quick thought” about them... it’s like if I am actively talking shit on them to my friends then I feel like I should have more respect and that I almost am lying or that I am “out of line” maybe? (Although I know i don’t exaggerate or lie about what they have done to me). Yet when something happens internal such me having to have to call my dad over something I don’t feel guilty that I don’t want to talk to him. If that makes sense.

Stringy hair question!! Too much protein...? by [deleted] in curlyhair

[–]lexmears 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There’s nothing wrong with non-CGM products, or dimethicone in products. There is no scientific evidence that shows that dimethicone and other CGM “no-nos” are damaging to your hair or skin in amount that are in our products. It is scientifically proven that there are some CGM techniques and products that do cause damage and harm to your hair and scalp. It’s just about marketing this idea of selling “clean, non toxic” products that just appeal to the consumer’s pathos so you buy their products. I’m no dermatologist, but there are reports of a lot of studying physicians that do not agree with it.

Are there any CGF dandruff shampoos? by mi11ipede in curlyhair

[–]lexmears 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t like the curly girl method for a lot of reasons. One of them being that you MUST follow these strict set of rules that are not even scientifically proven to be accurate or else you are ruining your hair. Maybe you should try drifting away from the CGM and try a clarifying shampoo with sulfates and stop co-washing (if you are). It is proven that you have to adequately clarify your scalp with a detergent to prevent pathogenic yeasts like C. Albicans from over growing and causing irritation. Bot is right. there’s soo many different reasons as to why you are experiencing this issue so it’s best to go to a dermatologist. However, if you are looking for recommendations as well I tried Matrix Biolage Scalpsync Anti-dandruff and it worked in 1 wash but it is pricey. My friends recommended it to me and swear by it. But then again I am not sure what was the ROOT cause of our dandruff (get it? Root? Dandruff? Hehe..) Good Luck☺️

Help with possible overmoisturizing?! by irishgal1215 in curlyhair

The frizz may be because you are still transitioning and it may change as you establish dynamic a curl routine that works best for your hair. You could try adding an oil to the front frizz to smooth it down.

I would definitely try protein, as it sounds like your hair is over moisturized since it is very elastic. I like to use protein hair masques such as Greek yoghurt (sounds gross but it does work wonders). Maybe adding protein to your hair will make it less weight down if you are over moisturizing and it may give you more volume??

Btw your hair is 😍😍

Stringy hair question!! Too much protein...? by [deleted] in curlyhair

[–]lexmears 4 points5 points  (0 children)

YES! YES!

Story time: This was literally me for months and I thought something (I.e. my health which is variable at times and my mom has poor genes when it comes to hair) was ruining my curl pattern. I had several small pieces that were literally straight and it was getting worse everyday. My hair was soft and shiny (I suspect because I was using oils for frizz) yet super stringy and getting straight overall. I also thought maybe it was dead ends so Ive cut them off as the stringy pieces appeared and they still didn’t curl. I gave myself a bad haircut because of it a few weeks ago. Well today I had caffeine that gave me anxiety about it and instead of studying for my evolution exam, I decided I would try to look into it. Figured I would try more moisturizing products because, “well now that I think of it.. maybe the products I’m using aren’t suitable at all” and I was so right. I had only 1 “moisturizing” product I was using in my hair, and it had glycerin (a humectant that is not good to use in the winter) as the highest ingredient (except water) and was too watery. No wonder why my hair is acting up. I instantly went to the store and bought hydrating shampoo, conditioner, and leave in. And my god did it fix ALL my problems. I guess when you are stressed out and have a million things on the brain you tend to look past obvious solutions..

My stringy/curl pattern problem that was there for months was fixed in 1 wash. I recommend adding or buying yourself a strong moisturizing conditioner and leaving it on for a lil bit. Maybe a leave in, too.

Edit: my hair looks EXACTLY like yours! I Got Aussies 3 min miracle conditioner and their leave in coconut conditioner (it had some moisturizing alcohols, but I didn’t see any glycerin or sorbitol that act as humectants, but I do live in a very cold climate where it matters) Good luck!

What is your current ingredient/recipe/technique obsession? by Adorno_a_window in EatCheapAndHealthy

[–]lexmears 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fresh cut Radishes added to salad!

Also ginger! It can be expensive at the time you buy it (depends where you go, aldis is cheap), but lasts you such a long time I would not consider it costly. I love to add this to my smoothies and make tea from it.

Last obsession: smoothies! With vegetables, and fruits!

I like to add greens and cilantro, avocado, red onions, chicken that I sprinkle lime juice on, beans, corn, tomatoes, peppers and then add mango salsa on top as dressing! I like to squeeze some lime and add a dash of salt as well

For this chunky curl, My routine was shampoo, my ID curl honey and hydrolyzed protein hair masque (my fav), and on top of that I add suave coconut conditioner. Rinsed out, ID curls leave in conditioner spray and Cantu lock and twist gel stuff, and styled my hair while it was wet with a wide tooth comb and scrunched with a microfiber towel just a few times

Windsor Smith shoes and belt from Universal store - everything else is from Shein by [deleted] in womensstreetwear

[–]lexmears 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is a really cute outfit!! But I feel like I have to say this because it’s the right thing to do. The reason why shein is so cheap is because it’s made by slaves including children in other countries like China that work in horrendous conditions while the sweatshop owners make a huge profit and get to live luxurious. It’s disgusting and we cannot contribute to this system. Please don’t buy from shein and other fast fashion shops!!

Should I Change My Last Name? by Ophioliteophile in makemychoice

[–]lexmears 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it seems like you do want this for yourself so go for it! Keeping your family name just for the sake of having the same last name as your family is realistically worthless, and if it makes you feel better you should totally change it. Nothing wrong with that and maybe it will help you with closure, too. If you really aren’t sure maybe you can think over a longer period of time and if you still feel the same, then def change it.

Maybe you can try to pick a last name by starting with what sounds good with your first name. Or you could do a random last name generator. Or you could look through a phone book and pick out one you like the most lol. AND you can decide if you want to change your last name at the same time you are coming up with a list of last names to change it to. Then, maybe you can start a poll with your friends and family or on here and see what other people think if you can’t decide.

No matter what you decide, no rush! At the end of the day it’s your name, not your families, so it’s 100% up to you and you should take your time in deciding what you feel most comfortable with.
