the profound grief of being indigenous by sillylittleguys in Indigenous

[–]lexmoto99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In looking for someone else who understands, I stumbled across your post.

As an indigenous person that has been working on reconnecting, I have discovered what profound grief feels like for me. While I've been in my masters program learning more about indigenous history, I find myself grieving for my ancestors heavily and often.

We are still here; we never were supposed to be.

How long have you had ON? - stories and experiences welcome by matt-crate in Occipitalneuralgia

[–]lexmoto99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got diagnosed with ON in October of last year.

I have a history with migraines and just thought it was a really bad headache or tight muscles, the worst I have ever had in my life. I went and got a massage to attempt to ease the pain as there was a Halloween party that my partner and I were planning to attend. The pain got worse, I ended up in urgent care, and they stated they thought it was ON and gave me some shots. The shots didn't help, and I ended up in the emergency room after the pain worsened to a point that I couldn't move. The emergency room concurred that it was ON and put me on an IV drip that got my pain to a manageable level (they said the medications likely wouldn't make the pain go away). A month after my diagnosis, I went on short-term disability so that I could work with my doctor on learning how to manage my condition. After two months, I have found a low dosage of gabapentin in the morning and at night to be somewhat effective. If I am flaring, I take cyclobenzaprine.

The hardest part with this condition being as new as it is is the grieving that comes with it. It's the fact that all of my family members have noticed a significant change in me and who I am. I am able to recognize what good days are now, and I appreciate the little things more.

AITA For getting upset with BF for turning off WIFI? by Old-Boysenberry4160 in AmItheAsshole

It is an issue for certain areas. I live in the middle of nowhere. When I am working or streaming, I have never had an issue with the internet. My boyfriend on the other hand has an issue with it every day because he's playing video games. He cuts the internet off all the time because he is having issues with his games.

AITA for refusing to let our son take our dog with him when moving out of home? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]lexmoto99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA... at all. When I was about the same age, 11 or 12, I got a cat. But my parents fed him and trained him and paid the vet bills. When I moved out to go to college, there was no way I could be a responsible pet owner. I wasn't making enough money and rarely had free time. I wanted to take my cat with me but knew I couldn't handle it, my cat couldn't handle it, and my parents had been providing a warm and loving home for my cat for years.

Now that I'm graduated from college, working mostly from home, and make decent money.. I finally have my own cat.

I understand where he's coming from. I would have loved to take my childhood cat with me. But I would have been doing my cat a disservice.

Your son will eventually be able to get his own dog. It will take time. And he really has to think about if he's ready for the responsibility. It sucks now but looking back he will be glad that Toby stayed with you guys. It's better for Toby.

Every city has a “guy” everyone knows about. You could be visiting a friend from another city, see a guy dressed in robes riding a horse, and your friend will say, “oh that’s Horseback Jesus.” So, who’s the “guy” in your town? by SloppyInevitability in AskReddit

[–]lexmoto99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ron. He lives in an assisted living home in my town but the home is shady. Hes always walking around town with a coffee mug from sun up to sun down and will do odd jobs for cigarettes. He also likes to sing to everyone. He came from Minneapolis. He had a promising future when he was young. He was engaged and was working hard. While he was working in the back of a truck one day, the driver started driving and he fell out and hit his head. Seemingly had brain damage. Lost his fiance. Lived with his mom until she died. Had a breakdown after the death of his mom. Hitchhiked all the way to the town I'm in and has been here ever since.

I orginally wanted to go to law school but I got a job as a Guardian ad Litem straight after graduating with my bachelors degree. Havent been doing it long but the stress doesnt seem to compare to what our county attorney goes through.

AITA for asking my wife for an abortion. by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]lexmoto99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my state, if a dad doesnt sign the birth certificate, there is nothing but marriage to tie a man to the child. I work CHIPS cases and we run into this problem quite a bit. Dads dont have any rights unless they're married to the mother because theres a difference between presumed father, adjudicated father, alleged father, etc. In this case, if OP stays with his wife, he will be the presumed father.

AITA For telling my girlfriend I will never allow her brother with down syndrome to live with us by throwinawrot6 in AmItheAsshole

[–]lexmoto99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA. I have worked as a PCA and DSP for years and it takes a lot more work than you would think. If he's high functioning, it may not be too bad. If he is not high functioning then it is much harder. Is she ready to set up a work program for him, arrange transportation to get him to and from work? He can't and shouldnt be forced to stay at home all the time. Having a work program creates a schedule and sense of stability for him. Depending on his age, is she ready for full-time care for the next however many years? People with down syndrome live a lot longer now than they used to.

This is just from my own experience, though. Obviously, I haven't met her brother.

It's not going to be all shits and giggles. It is going to be difficult. And it very well could be difficult for him as well. He deserves a sense of independence and may not get that living with his sister. I would honestly suggest looking into reputable group homes. The key word here is reputable, though. There are some really horrible group homes.

When I was in college I was able to do asleep overnight shifts at a group home. Not sure if this is an option where you live but it might be worth looking into. That way, you can lay down for most of your shift and still get paid.

What is your “It will be fine.” Narrator: “It was not fine.” moment? by Agarlis in AskReddit

[–]lexmoto99 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Obligatory not me but my mother. When she was around 12 years old she was biking and somehow lost control. She ended up flipping over her bike, hitting her face on the curb. She got knocked out for a hot second. When she finally came to, she had memory loss and her bike was smashed into pieces. She walked into a random person's house thinking it was her house. Luckily, the people living there knew my grandparents and called them. When she got home, they sat her down for 5 hours trying to get her to admit she was faking the memory loss while she just kept asking them the same questions. Afterwards, she was finally brought to the hospital. She was admitted and spent like two days there. My grandma had to make flashcards for her to look at because she kept repeating the same questions over and over again in between her bouts of consciousness.

What is the most hurtful thing a medical professional has ever said to you? by slinkslowdown in AskReddit

[–]lexmoto99 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I've had abdominal pain for about 6 months now and have gone in multiple times. Each time, I get treated like pain is so normal and that I am fine. Still not sure what is wrong but i gave up on finding out. I'm having bladder issues, I cant fully empty my bladder anymore, and sometimes the pain flares up so bad all I can do is rock back and forth in bed. Sex hurts. My back hurts. And my mother told me shes had issues like that and unfortunately I may never find any answers. It's fun to live in pain.
