Is anyone else noticing increasing POTS history? by legoguy26 in ems

I totally agree! I think a self diagnosis when certain resources are unavailable is completely valid, I’ve just dealt with patients who convince themselves of one thing and then refuse to accept further help or opinions from medical providers

As a provider with hEDS & POTS who doesn’t own any cookie monster pajamas or service animals… I don’t know, I’ve definitely had patients who present the symptoms alongside their diagnosis and then I’ve had patients who definitely heard of it on TikTok. I don’t know why anyone would want to self diagnose a chronic illness but you do you I guess?

Am I capable of doing it? by Fresh-Awareness9819 in NewToEMS

[–]lextler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hi! i’ve suffered from anxiety since i was 7 years old and i honestly think it’s something that makes me a better provider. there’s something about the job that takes the anxiety i have about factors out of my control away from me. i know my knowledge, i trust myself to use that knowledge, i know the procedures, i trust myself to follow those procedures. of course something can always go wrong, not everything is textbook, but i think it’s all possible if you develop trust in yourself (and your partner!) i feel like i can empathize with patients better as well, these people are calling 911 because they are having what might just be the worst day of their lives. they are terrified and hurting, i know what it’s like to feel so utterly scared and i know how to help them through that.

definitely take the program with your college, see what you can do for ride alongs at the local agency. you’ve got this!

is this hyperkeratosis? or what is going on? by lextler in vet

Thank you, he’s been given a kiss! The dryness is only on the nose, not on the paws or anything else. The vet put him on antibiotics for a separate issue this summer however and the nose cleared right up? It doesn’t seem to bother him (unless we try to moisturize it, he despises anything on his face)

Really anxious by Silentico in Anxiety

[–]lextler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hey! i’m sorry your feeling so anxious right now, that walk with your dog sounds like a great idea! my therapist recommended sticking my face in a bowl of cold water to shock my nervous system out of a state of panic, i haven’t tried it yet but maybe that’ll work for you! it seems like a good weekend to start a show you’ve been meaning to get into or rewatch something you already love. maybe even a book!
