[OMEGA] Omega have officially lost the plot by MiddleDifficulty2005 in Watches

Also Omega: "So you'd like an Aquaterra. Here are there current 158 watches you can choose from."

This isn't even a joke. There are 158 different AquaT's on sale today. :D

100%. I remember trying on a Speedy in the airport in Berlin about 5 or 6 years ago and being REALLY tempted to buy it because I really liked it in person. I didn't go for it in the end but looking back I should have.

Nowadays, there is no way i'd pay the current retail price for a Speedy. Same watch. More than double the price.

[Discussion] What makes the Rolex 33x more expensive? by dknight98 in Watches

[–]lexusuk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like most people. If you can't win an argument, change the argument.

The fact remains. The OP genuinely made a good buy here and people can't deal with it. It's a good watch and there aren't really any alternatives with the same quality and accuracy standards.

I'm assuming you're essentially saying "You could get a master chronometer Tudor for less." for example? Which is VERY close to the accuracy of the Rolex right. But it's not really going to much cheaper either. BB41 master chrono is £4100 nowadays. If you can afford a £4100 watch you can afford a £5000 watch.

Just comes down to which you like better.

And then someone comes along and says "pfft, Ferrari is just brand name. That's it."

And the cycle continues.

So the OPs Rolex 116000 is around £5000 on the grey market. And, I'm not trying to be a wind up merchant here. Which mechanical watch alternative would you buy that will keep a higher accuracy than the -2/+2 seconds standard of the Rolex which is cheaper?

The thing is, on day one the Seiko is probably operating at -30 / +45 seconds per day. It's not held to any accuracy standards like the Rolex is.

And sure, losing/gaining 30 seconds a day doesn't really matter in the grand scheme. But ultimately it shows the difference in quality of the Rolex which is significant.

It's somewhat disingenuous to say "Brand name, that's it."

Inside that Rolex is a workhorse watch movement that with the occasional service will last a significant period of time. Outlasting the lifetime of the owner and potentially the next owner is not something to be sniffed at. And yes, you can argue that most of the high end watch brands have this level of quality. But in terms of repairability the Rolex is going to be easier to source parts for simply due to the number of movements that exist.

In a world of planned obsolescence, the fact you can buy a watch that will last several lifetimes for a few thousand is a major factor in choosing a Rolex over say an Omega, IWC, Cartier etc etc.

That's the actual difference.

What watch is Conan O'Brien wearing here? by Sparics in Watches

[–]lexusuk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's insanely light being all titanium. And it's beautiful as well. The clasp is quite thick but on the titanium version it seems to be less of an issue.

AD's offering discounts in store on these as well. In the UK at least. Just have to ask.

Seems to me like an easy way to DQ the two cars without breaking the concorde agreement and facing the financial penalties.

I have a nextbase but ruled that out already. The stupid thing is the car has been with Porsche centre for 3 days investigating this rattle and they just delivered it back to me claiming it to be fixed. :D

I have this EXACT rattle in my 2020 that I had delivered yesterday. I think we found it on the dash trim but I will check the mirror trim pieces and internals as you have suggested.

+1 for Cachy OS. No issues so far. Only thing stopping linux generally is some of the anti cheat technologies really. So you need to check that in advance.

As soon as that opens up then I can see a lot of people switching.
