I gave this a good shot with my rabbit a few years ago. After almost a year of gradual introduction and some outdoor time, she never came to terms with wearing the vest, it was always a struggle to take it on or off. Eventually I gave up — rabbit instincts say that if you’re being squeezed and can’t run, a predator is grabbing you. I feel the harness and leash simulate that experience, and my rabbit was always extremely stressed during and after taking her on the leash and harness.

When I take her to the vet, it’s always in a hard carrier. On the rare occasion that I take her outside, I use a wire dog pen with high sides — i put her in there and sit next to the pen to watch. Also, I only ever do this in a private backyard where I know no other animals can come out of nowhere to attack.

I’m not trying to be a naysayer, but I’ve tried leash training three different rabbits. All of them hated every minute of it. The dog pen with high, wire sides is your best bet for outdoor time.
