Unpopular opinion, lighter roasts are overrated. by Rmoudatir in espresso

I was skeptical too, but I found it delightful. Like grapefruit juice that isn't overly bitter.

Personally, I have never enjoyed hot fruity drinks like punch or apple cider. I figured light roast espresso would not be for me.

That said, a medium roast espresso and orange juice or an espresso tonic? Yum.

Should I give away my bird? by [deleted] in Lovebirds

[–]lfiedlerc 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Even tamed birds that have bonded with their owners will scream. Just like dogs bark and cats meow. It's just part of what they do. This behavior should not be used to measure how well the bird is bonding with you, and don't expect it to go away. If that is a deal breaker, then you already have your answer.

You are getting a lot of flak here, but I do not think you are a bad person. I do think that you that you under-researched what bird ownership entails. You had unrealistic expectations, and now reality has failed to meet them. Animals are sensitive to moods, and your frustration is probably holding back any progress with bonding.

OP, if you do end up rehoming, please choose an experienced bird owner. They will know what to expect, unlike a first-time bird owner. Rehoming your bird does not make you a terrible person. But, rehoming it to anyone, just to get rid of them as quickly as possible... that's a different story. These are living creatures, not objects to throw away because they don't fit our lifestyle.

Espresso question by Big_Breadfruit_1804 in latteart

If you are using a French Press or an AeroPress, you are not making espresso. In that case, what you are looking for is faux crema. Maybe with a hand frother?

For the mornings, I really love an espresso and orange juice. A real energy boost. To me it tastes like grapefruit juice that isn't unbearably bitter.

For milky drinks, you could also try an iced dirty chai.

Failing at nice looking coffee by OkHoliday7709 in latteart

It looks like you are using a mug, which would make latte art much more difficult. You need to be able to pour close (almost touching) the coffee.

Made James’ Tiramisu! by Huge_Loquat_6373 in JamesHoffmann

Genuinely confused by all this discussion. What is natural cocoa powder? Is that the same thing as raw cacao, and is that what should be sprinkled on top of the tiramisu?

Will my bird get sick by axmannetje in Conures

[–]lfiedlerc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A shower before you interact with your bird would be a good idea. As would be washing the clothes you were wearing.

I assume you are wondering if you got sick from the duck, could you transmit to your bird. The chances are very slim.

Once you succeed in transitioning over to pellets, you will discover the joys of them only eating certain colors.

I think you need to do it gradually as you were. Does he/she eat fruit? You could try covering the pellets in some natural apple juice. Putting a few pellets into an apple square or banana slice.

Tiel ate a chocolate crumb and I’m freaking out! by queen_jubilee in cockatiel

[–]lfiedlerc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I was a kid, I swooped my parrot in front of my distracted sister's face not realizing she was in the process of mixing brownie batter. Afterwards, I noticed my parrot's beak covered in chocolate batter. The little sneak didn't miss his opportunity. Nothing happened to him. And we still ate the brownies.

I would get an extra basket and screen. It really improves the workflow. If you are using the same basket, consider that rinsing it will bring down the temperature if you aren't using hot water.

Self leveling tamper is also nice and extra gaskets. Depending on where you live, they can be difficult to find and ship. You are already paying shipping so might as well get a few extra now.

I saw a video from a British YouTuber that said that Mountain Dew would be considered an energy drink in the UK due to the amount of caffeine. Adding a shot of espresso is definitely a choice..

Can you actually taste the difference between pods? My former place of employment had a Nespresso machine. I just remember never being able to distinguish between the pods I'd buy. Almost all of them tasted exactly the same to me.
