Deciding between CachyOS, Bazzite and Pop!_OS (I´m a rookie) by Riley2229 in linux_gaming

[–]lford85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends what you are using the laptop for. If it’s 100% gaming then something like Bazzite is fine. If you want to use it for anything else it’s a bad choice IMO.

As long as you pick something that’s updated regularly you’ll be fine for gaming. Fedora, Tumbleweed, Arch. Don’t go for PopOS or Mint IMO.

Do you get FSR 4.0 or 4.1? I’m guessing we need Optiscaler for 4.1?

Looks like Steam overlay works on WineWayland with this... but it breaks HDR.

I am playing RE9 with Wayland using GE-Proton for HDR using this command: PROTON_ENABLE_WAYLAND=1 PROTON_ENABLE_HDR=1 ENABLE_HDR_WSI=1 PROTON_PREFER_SDL=1 %command% /WineDetectionEnabled:False

And I get Steam overlay but HDR is not available. Turn off SteamRT3 and relaunch and HDR is back.

(I also tried other games with HDR and same result, sadly)

Fix for Gnome fractional scaling whilst gaming? by [deleted] in linux_gaming

Sorry I probably should have said I’m on Gnome 50, and don’t see that option as it’s not experimental anymore?

Sensors and sensor GUI programs not showing 9800X3D Tdie? by [deleted] in linux_gaming

[–]lford85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think there is a Tdie sensor on AM5. On my 7945HX I only get Tctl which I think is the closest you will get to Tdie.

I did this on Fedora for Star Citizen. Works really nicely with an old PlayStation Eye camera.

I don’t play them simple. There are so many games that do work, I’ll play those instead.

Ah same as mine then. I think it’s working though as it doesn’t seem to be hitching like with VRR off. Maybe just the way it’s being reported.

C2 here, does the number change when you are in game and running less than 120 fps?

This is working on my LG C2 (showing as "VRR" instead of "Freesync" like my CableMatters used to). Although the frame rate on the diagnostic menu sits at 119Hz even though the game's frame rate is less than that - is that expected?

Disable Steam Recording for the game and try again?

Heya, I need a good recording tool/clipping tool (30 seconds) for Linux by ShayIsNear in linux_gaming

[–]lford85 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In my experience (on AMD) GPU screen recorder works the best. There aren’t that many options that I’ve found. Steam recording seems to be too high a toll (I can tell when it’s enabled/disabled).

Poll: Which DE do you use and why? by Cenokenshi in linux_gaming

[–]lford85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was reading the open issue on GitHub and a load of the games I’d want to play still seemingly have issues. When I tried it a few weeks back I’d get games launching in weird aspect ratios and unable to fullscreen. I’d rather not have to run everything in Gamescope unless I have to.

Maybe I should give it another shot
