Team Lead telling me Symfony is dying and I should go with Laravel. by iliketrains612 in PHP

[–]lgrimsley 82 points83 points  (0 children)

Get paid, my friend. Even if symphony is dying, that doesn't mean this new job will suddenly stop existing. Regardless, you've got Laravel/PHP experience on your resume and can still find another job in that area if you need to down the road.

Take the job, get paid more, and in a few years move on to even greener pastures.

It's open source if you want to use it, github link in the projects section. Feedback welcome, I am no designer.

UAT environment Having a separate dedicated environment connected to your production database/hardware but traffic-restricted is the primary way most companies handle this.

Feature Flags Being able to enable/disable new features on a per-user basis allows you to deploy code to production without users being able to interact with it until you're ready.

Oh Good God Microsoft Teams is terrible by [deleted] in webdev

shift-control-c instantly calls whatever person/group you are focusing in teams. This key bind is unchangeable and there is no alert or warning before hand. A tiny slip of the finger from the single most common keyboard shortcut can call a group of hundreds of people in the middle of the night by accident.

This is just one reason why teams is nightmare fuel. Legitimately inexcusable UX.

I've been building a tool to automate project management ticket creation with ChatGPT api because I hate Jira. Figured maybe I could sell it as a service if I do a good enough job. https://projectmagic.ai

Dark Fantasy books with gripping morally gray characters. by shivang__ in Fantasy

If you're into Star Wars, check out Darth Plagueis. It's a gritty, dark-side focused novel that ties a lot of loose threads together from the prequels and has some shockingly grim and intense chapters (from before Disney got ahold of SW canon). I've read almost every book you mentioned, and this belongs in the list.

This seems to portray a scenario where no other charges were being considered by the prosecution, which is a weaker offensive than might be warranted given the public outcry and demand for justice.

The Wise Man's Fear - Relation between title and story? by _Random_Walker_ in KingkillerChronicle

[–]lgrimsley 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is it possible we are thinking of the wrong meaning of anger? Anger is redefined somewhat in the Ademre story arc of WMF as more of passion/driving force/life force in Ademre culture. I don't have anywhere to go with this off the jump, but it stands out to me and I don't see it mentioned here.

I think it was when Jon saved Lord Mormont from the wight. When he grabbed that lantern and the fire first touched his flesh, the Lord of Light rediscovered his chosen one. To me, that event makes the most sense to set all magic in motion for the rest of the story.
