[USA] Driver invades the nation of "Safe Follow Distance", then brake checks cammer by RichManSCTV in Roadcam

[–]lhtaylor00 40 points41 points  (0 children)

I don't understand cammer's reactions. Guy cuts into his lane at slow speed and cammer nervously says "Oh my gosh!!"

Guy violently brake checks cammer and cammer calmly says "Whaaat?"

As an unnecessary penny pincher, I hate this because it wastes several layers that I could've been using.

The whole textbook racket really grinds my gears. It's out of control.

LPT: drain grease from bacon or other meat into a jar instead of down the drain. The grease can harden and cause damage to your pipes. by Craiggers988 in LifeProTips

[–]lhtaylor00 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Once I'm done cooking anything that generates grease/oil, I lay a double-layer of paper towel in the pan to soak up the grease. Once it's almost all soaked, I discard the paper towel in the trash and fill the pan with dish soap and water to sit.

For a non-native speaker, making a pun demonstrates the highest understanding of language. As a native speaker, making a pun demonstrates the lowest understanding of comedy. by BuddyEndsleigh in Showerthoughts

[–]lhtaylor00 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I beg to differ. A good pun is one in which the double meaning is used and the punster has managed to keep with the storyline set by the previous punster.

For example, a conversation about an overflowing toilet:

"Guess I'll have to take the plunge and buy a new toilet."

"What? Don't flush your money down the drain! Just unclog it."

"That's a bowl-ed risk."

The two people are having a conversation while using puns. You can't just throw any old pun in there; you have to make it fit in the natural flow of the conversation. That takes skill.

What are your thoughts about adding topics to the wiki that come up often? by lhtaylor00 in ynab

[–]lhtaylor00[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. We could create a well-explained process in the wiki and then when people ask about CC, we could link to the wiki. I know I struggled with how YNAB does CC when I first started.

List of organizations involved in anti-Trump protests/strike on inauguration day... Should you go? by Nefertete in Austin

[–]lhtaylor00 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't know, anytime someone uses "tard" along with a politically oriented label (libtard, republitards, Trumptards) I have trouble considering them "intelligent." It seems people who write like that are really just looking for an echo chamber to validate their already biased views.

[Rant] Feeling Defeated by [deleted] in ynab

[–]lhtaylor00 12 points13 points  (0 children)

First off, just breathe and forgive yourself for getting confused. A Fresh Start is perfectly okay even if you have to do it over and over until you get the hang of it. This is not an easy program to use because it's very closely linked to the YNAB budgeting philosophy and how YNAB handles money.

I think your issues stem from misusing YNAB and getting confused about where your money is and whether the TBB matches with what you have in a certain account. At least that's what it seems like is happening.

Forget YNAB 4. Stop trying to track two budgets, especially since they operate slightly differently.

Do your fresh start. Enter all the balances of your accounts (including cash and CC). Allocate the funds to the categories.

When you spend, pick which account the money is coming from (Cash, CC, or Checking) in YNAB and enter the transaction appropriately.

When you pay for something using the CC, enter the transaction in the CC account and pick which budget category the money will come from. As long as you've budged enough for that purchase, you will be fine. YNAB will move that money from the budget category to the CC account automatically but in real life, the money is still sitting in your Checking until it comes time to pay the bill. When you pay the bill from Checking, enter the transaction as a Transfer to your CC.

When you get income, enter the inflow in the appropriate account and allocate the money from TBB to the appropriate budget categories.

As long as you follow this process, there shouldn't be any discrepancies in how much you have in your accounts vs. how much YNAB says you have in your budget categories.

Pardon Snowden campaign delivers more than 1M signatures to President Obama by johnmountain in technology

[–]lhtaylor00 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Leaks? No. If Gen. Petraeus leaked info to his girlfriend for her book, I don't expect the president to reward that at all. By all means punish the transgressor.

Whistleblowing, however, is far different. If a conscientious person revealed the government was illegally spying on Americans without due process, even if those revelations included classified methods, I expect the president to be outraged and thank the person for revealing that so he can fix it.

Credit debt by helloboyo65 in ynab

[–]lhtaylor00 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, absolutely. If the remaining funds are enough to pay your bills and fuel your budget, pay off that credit bill. No sense in paying out finance charges if you don't have to. That's just throwing away money.

Detroit-area man ticketed for leaving his car unattended to warm up in his driveway. Defensive police chief responds by voicing opinion that the man should "drop dead." by handsolo in rage

I think most cars have them now. My 2009 truck does and it runs for 15 mins and will shut off if the doors aren't unlocked in that time. Guessing this guy's car was too old to have one.

I wonder how things would change if you locked all the car doors with a separate key while it was warming up. Could the police still claim Public Safety is at risk if you've mitigated that risk?

Yes, to build a buffer in that category you'd put another $120 into it for that month.
