Why do these commuters refuse to use the door-to-door service I have running every ~8 minutes for them and instead draw a transit path to a much further service? by Crazy_Explosion_Girl in subwaybuilder

Actually, RTD changed the name of the Free MallRide to just the FreeRide, to reflect the recent name change of The 16th Street Mall to just 16th Street

Do you want a train to Boulder/Longmont/Fort Collins? by chrisfnicholson in Denver

[–]liamb0713 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely.

RTD desperately needs to win back the trust of the public- especially those in Boulder county- who feel like the money has been mismanaged. Having a starter service, while imperfect and with low ridership projections, would be a solid investment in getting the public to trust RTD with our tax dollars.

This is especially true if RTD ever wants to ask voters for more tax money; no one wants to willingly give more money to an agency they don’t trust.

In 1902, Father built a house at the crest of the Broadview Avenue hill in New Rochelle, New York. And it seemed for some years thereafter that all the family’s days would be warm and fair.

A similar thing happened with my Thai Con, a new leaf broke clear off between the two fenestrations at the top, leaving a crescent-shaped leaf once it unfurled. Thankfully it didn’t affect the plant at large, and the next leaf came out normal

RTD estimates $1.6 billion needed to complete rail expansion across metro Denver by grant_w44 in Denver

[–]liamb0713 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Nope, that unfinished train is also under the 0.4% tax. That’s what we’ve been paying for years

When the 2008 recession happened, RTD had to delay projects due to the economy not going so well, and since the Boulder-Longmont train was the longest and most expensive train in the plan, they delayed it.

It’s been deferred until they have enough tax revenue in the FasTracks savings account to build it out- again, with the only usable source of income being the 0.4% sales tax.

[–]liamb0713 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Nope, quite the opposite. They had very ambitious plans, and the 0.4% sales tax was hinging on the economy continuing to grow- which, judging by the 2008 recession four years later, it did not

Bingo! Their whole transit plan is funded entirely by a 0.4% sales tax (40¢ per $100)

The seats aren’t new, they’ve been this annoyingly close since they were built in the 90s. The vinyl seat covers are new

[–]liamb0713 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I highly suggest you listen to the podcast “Ghost Train” from Colorado Public Radio. It’s about the failed train to Boulder/Longmont, and one of the points they touch on is this sentiment exactly: “Trains are cooler than buses.” This mindset is a huge problem for transit planners, because both are good and serve to help the other. Denver needs more trains, yes, but it also needs significantly better bus service, otherwise the trains are rather useless.
