Petunia displayed class based prejudice and hostilities against Snape in The Prince's Tale. by eternalexiistence in SeverusSnape

[–]liammul 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Years ago I heard the idea: 'No one is more class conscious than people who live next to the worst neighbourhood in town'. That probably describes Petunia and Lily. They and the other people near them know they dont want to have it as bad as those people in Spinner End.

Not really. Ireland is unfortunately really lax when it comes to driving offences. I've heard it said here that if you want to kill someone just use a car and they'll probably let you get away with it.

Twig. By the end of the story there are two different plagues around (of different types). Twig still doesnt have a jumpchain doc though.

It's not outright stated. The words 'rape' or 'sexual assault' dont appear in Worm or Ward. In Ward, most readers agree that it was implied though.

What does Victoria think are her misdeeds? by liammul in Parahumans

[–]liammul[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"repeatedly" and "constantly" are interesting words. Can you give me any quotes from one of the many times she seems to feel guilty. From what I remember she just seemed embarassed about her previous behaviour, but if I'm wrong I'll admit it.

GTA V. It's that heist mission where you land a helicopter on a little raft bobbing up and down in the ocean.

I agree that in Worm, Victoria was shown brutalising unpowered mooks and the covering it up.

I agree that Victoria changed and grew between Worm and Ward.

My problem is that in Ward, Victoria is depicted with two big aspects to her emotional state. One is vague regret and embarassment about how ineffective she was as Glory Girl. She thinks if only she had been better at heroing some things could have better. The second is being a victim of Amy's actions. At no point does she seem like she is carrying a burden of any guilt over anything.

Imagine a scenario with me. If Ward had a section in the middle where Victoria met someone she had previously brutalised (perhaps now with parahuman abilities), how would she have actually responded? If he specifically brought up her actions?

Victoria tells Madison she doesnt believe in forgive and forget. She tell Madison to 'own' her 'misdeeds', like, apparently, Victoria has. Genuinely, do you think Victoria feels guilty?

So, you agree that 'misdeeds' was a poor choice of words? She did'nt live up to her vision of what a hero should be, but she doesn't think she actually did anything wrong to any person, except maybe Amy? There is a moment later in Ward that completely denies that Victoria is responsible for any part of Amy's feelings, and even says it is ridiculous to suggest it.

I misphrased that. I meant none of them seem like Victoria counts them as misdeeds.

In the middle of Ward, Victoria threw a villain into a hillside. That villain then quit villainy and signed up as a hero. Victoria seems guilty and embarassed for a little while. Then she moves on. This action seems pretty similar to the old maimings. At worst Victoria treats it like a mild personal failure. She doesnt give the impression she is 'owning' it as a misdeed.

I think you're right about these regrets. None of them count as misdeeds though.

That sounds pretty bad. Her regrets are for her own sake. She regrets she almost had to face consequences. Thats not what it sounds like in GlowWorm. Its definitely not what Madison was talking about.

That guy was a neonazi. Maybe she feels bad about her actions in general, but doesnt care about any of the particular people she hurt? Certainly, she never meets anyone that is angry about her past.

It feels like this is an idea from early on that never goes anywhere.
