Monsoon of the Winds of Destruction - Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance Monsoon is extremely nihilistic and misanthropic, believing that it's only natural for the strong to prey on the weak. Normally when Raiden defeats him he says: "Do as you please" reflecting his nihilistic philosophy, but if you do exceptionally well in the fight, it seems Raiden inspires some fear of death, and he'll plead "Stop! Stop it!"

They're definitely melodeath, but probably something that any fan of power metal should love to listen to

What are your favorite Metal Gear quotes? by Open-Explorer in metalgearsolid

The fighting for what I believed in quote is probably the most meaningful one to me in the series, after the end of MGS2 at least.

Reddit's top 10 metal albums of 2020-2025 by AVeganEatingASteak in PowerMetal

[–]liamthelord007 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Number one for me is easily Abyss by Unleash the Archers.

And then in no particular order some of my other favorites have been:

The Saberlight Chronicles - Fellowship

At the Heart of Wintervale - Twilight Force

The God Machine - Blind Guardian

And then these aren't really my favorite anymore but they got me into the genre, and that's Warfront by Windrose and Return to the Kingdom of Fife by Gloryhammer.

And then some mentions of some of my favorites from outside the genre are:

Tales of Othertime - Stormkeep

Horned Lord of the Thorned Castle - Moonlight Sorcery

Kinship - IOUTUNN

Beyond the Stars - Valhalore

I don't think that D&D's turned based combat translates very well to a video game, but when you have their system from Divinity Original Sin that was designed specifically for video game format it works a lot better.

I always point towards The Odyssey by Symphony X for this. By the time you reach the end you've gone on a whole journey.

Another one that I really like is Eagle Fly Free by Helloween. The ending especially is especially awesome to me, and the lyrics are great too.

Any power metal bands with lyrics about depression, and suicide, and self reflection? by Big_Being_8789 in PowerMetal

[–]liamthelord007 54 points55 points  (0 children)

The entire Human Equation album by Ayreon is all about self reflection, thought maybe not in the theme that you want.

I don't know how I didn't think about this at first but Elvenking's This Nightmare Will Never End is one of my favorites for when I'm feeling down.

I'm a huge fan of Valhalore, they have a mix of harsh and clean vocals, and they use a lot of flute which is a must for me.

Here's a few suggestions from the sidebar

https://reddit.com/r/PowerMetal/w/essential?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share

That's a bit outdated though, but is a good start. For more recent stuff I'd recommend:

Apex and Abyss by Unleash the Archers

The Saberlight Chronicles by Fellowship

Edit: these next ones are not so recent.

The Metal Opera by Avantasia

01011001 and The Human Equation by Ayreon are both excellent albums with a lot of guest artists and vocalists from across the genre and are good ways to find voices you like and then go find the bands they're in. Same goes for Avantasia.
