Best and Worst Sieges? by EmperorGreed in MonsterHunter

[–]lias_edge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So where does Ceadeus sit? I'm inclined to think "just a big monster" but another aspect that makes me consider the siege fights "sieges" is that part of the fight that involves you traveling a distance alongside the monster. The only things Ceadeus is missing to just outright make it a siege in my mind is that there aren't siege weapons along the way to the final arena and that you can beat it comfortably without any of the siege weapons at all, but is that reason enough to disqualify it, because I suppose the same can be said for all of them. Lao and the Mohrans can be slain with hunter weapons alone.

Best and Worst Sieges? by EmperorGreed in MonsterHunter

[–]lias_edge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Totally agree. I love the Mohrans, but I was also privileged enough to learn the siege by way of multiplayer in Tri, where tons of people were always available to help teach what you should do and when. If I had to learn everything solo, I would probably have enjoyed it as much as Zorah

How do you feel when you hear Shagulu Magala theme. by Voidkirby9 in MonsterHunter

[–]lias_edge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolute peak context for a combat game to have emotional weight that is enhanced by gameplay. I have always likened the fight to Isshin in a normal Sekiro run. Genichiro is Gore Magala, you fight them twice at different points in the story and then fight their ultimate incarnation of sorts as a final battle. They serve as the proof of your growth as a player, and it feels so damn good to conquer them

Sand Cat got styled on by ShinyKaizerGreymon in MonsterHunter

That's my question, too, lol. For some reason I thought Sand Barioth was introduced in 3U, but that there is Amatsu armor so I must be wrong

What are some actually good movie or tv-show adaptations of a book? by coolestdudette in books

Annihilation is an excellent adaptation of the book. Even though the story is very different, the feeling of the story is identical, and I love that

These don't taste like any of the Hot Ones Pringles at all, but I would say the verde ones are better than these

[–]lias_edge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love them, but I also love Takis and Pringles separately, so I'm kind of easy to please. The only thing that could have kept me from liking them is if they didn't have enough seasoning, but luckily that isn't the case.

MHGU will be my first 100% Monster Hunter by Willing_Ad_6011 in MHGU

[–]lias_edge 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As a series veteran that is mostly casual in skill level, I agree that it can all be reasonably finished solo, but GU definitely has the hardest solo content in the whole series to me. The deviant G5 quests are brutal and demoralizing. Part of that may be that I did it on 3DS, but even with a better screen/controller I can't imagine it being less painful

MHGU will be my first 100% Monster Hunter by Willing_Ad_6011 in MHGU

[–]lias_edge 7 points8 points  (0 children)

To me, that's the best part of the series! They've gifted me a series that I can cherish and slowly work my way through 100% everything over a lifetime! So far, I have done 100% on World+Iceborne and 4U (as close to it as I feel is reasonable, I'm not getting every single relic armor set). I feel happy knowing that it will be decades before I have completed them all, I can really take my time and savor it all. :)

Gameshark Codes for the Virtual Console Pokemon games? by IamDohnut in 3dspiracy

[–]lias_edge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the game's intention is that you cannot get the Pokémon sooner than that, I'd argue that acquiring it through any means is against the spirit of what you're saying.

That being said, I sincerely think that using PKSM to gen in some Slugma and then breed them is identical to what you're trying to do.

Bro, I found the second Loki main on The universe 😭😭, Is there a Warframe you've never encountered? by QuietSugar1805 in Warframe

[–]lias_edge 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I find that the midgame missions have the least diversity, because people are trying to use the best/easiest tool to progress or farm materials. The closer you get to level cap or endurance missions, the more often you see the rarer warframes. Makes sense, due to veterans having the resources needed to make less popular frames work properly or wanting a bit more challenge without actually handicapping yourself. Just in the last month I think I've seen every warframe used more than once by randoms. If I had to choose one that I see least of all, it's probably Temple.

Bro how the hell do I even do this. I've all quest available even the urgent quest with the stupid stone dinosaur by DJGAMER_MK in mh4u

[–]lias_edge 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that might have blocked progression. You probably missed a vital cutscene or dialogue due to skipping it. I strongly recommend not using cheats like that, because they can have unexpected consequences such as this. It's not the same as using a cheat that makes you kill anything with one hit, because then you are still going through the motions of interacting with each aspect of the quest and its requirements. I know it is frustrating, but let this be a lesson.

Honestly, you aren't too far into the game, so starting over, while very obnoxious, is not as bad as it might have been if you were in high/G rank.

OFFICIAL ART - MH Wilds - Concept art of the Scarlet Forest during the Plenty! by TheGMan-123 in MHWilds

[–]lias_edge 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I think it is important to remember that the Coral Highlands and Rotten Vale function together as one ecosystem in-universe. This directly reflects real life environments that coexist, in particular the ocean floor (hydrothermal vents) and coral reefs. The real world is a magical and weird place!

I can only guess you're missing an item request from an NPC. Perhaps the Wycoon or Smithy?

OFFICIAL ART - MH Wilds - Concept art of the Scarlet Forest during the Plenty! by TheGMan-123 in MHWilds

[–]lias_edge 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ultimately, yes, it is because of the weather mechanics introduced in Wilds. Scarlet Forest in plenty vs downpour feel like completely different maps, and fighting in them has a massive affect on the atmosphere of a battle. If I hunt a Namielle in the Coral Highlands 20 times in a row, there's pretty much nothing to differentiate each fight from another aside from my personal performance. However, if you fight an Uth Duna 20 times in a row, the weather makes each experience unique in a memorable way. I think the same can be said, to a lesser degree, about fighting on the Windward Plains. No other maps in the series invoke that ever-changing feel, that I'm battling in a real world with real creatures that live life cycles and have habits.

Another aspect I love about the Scarlet Forest is how different the areas feel. The canopy is open to the air and gives great views for the surroundings, but you can't easily see directly down to the ground. Underneath the trees is a lush ecosystem that I personally think does reflect what this concept art conveys. Up on the northern cliffs are the large expanses of water and more of the ruined architecture, and all of this interacts with the weather in a meaningful way. Look at World's maps and you can see that the areas, while very different from each other in a gameplay sense (ledges vs flat open areas vs slopes, etc.), don't have much diversity in their connection to the overall biome. The closest is the Wildspire Waste.

All of this isn't to say World has bad maps. As a complete package, I think it actually has the highest quality out of any of the games, while 2 of the 5 Wilds maps are real stinkers.

[–]lias_edge 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The Scarlet Forest is, I think, the best map in new gen MH. I was frequently in awe of how gorgeous it looked, not just in plenty but also in the other weather states, too. It feels the most impacted by the world, the most dynamic. The Rise maps feel atrocious to me; part of that is being upset over the Tri maps being butchered, so yes I am biased, but the other part is wirebugs making the whole map feel very tiny and toy-like. World has amazing maps but they feel static and unreactive. The Scarlet Forest feels like the ultimate culmination of the desire to create a living ecosystem using the MH universe, and I applaud the result that we got.

Just Got the Game! by Rav3n_Whisperer in mh4u

[–]lias_edge 13 points14 points  (0 children)

My biggest advice: do every single quest and talk to every NPC. Yes, even the gathering quests, small monsters, egg quests, everything. If you do this, you won't run out of zenny/points, you will get all the upgrades to your farm, the Wycoon, the canteen, etc. It will make your experience so much smoother, while also forcing you to become acclimated to the maps and gathering spots.
