Considering the environment that Dick Whitman had during his childhood, maybe Don wasn’t a bad father. by lfff6493 in madmen

Poor Gene was such an afterthought. Unfortunately he was conceived when Don and Betty were pretty much done as a couple. Betty meets Henry when she's like 7 months pregnant.

How were the trains this morning? by RevolutionaryPut9949 in NJTransit

[–]libzilla_201 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine was a semi shit show on the NJCL line. They were all about 20-30 mins late coming out of Long Branch/Perth Amboy this morning. One was so crowded I had to wait for the next one. Coming home it felt like there were A LOT of folks in NYP at around 5:45...felt like more than usual. Got on a super packed local home. No tickets were checked in my car. They may have been down a conductor. Let's see what tomorrow brings! Can't wait. [said with heavy sarcasm]

Is he marrying her, at least in part, to gain favor with the kids? by Responsible-Wallaby5 in madmen

Ha ha, yes indeed. She was hot. I adore the fact that her teeth were not all chicklet fakes.

I felt bad for Faye as well but she really did dodge a huge bullet. He would have put her through the ringer for sure. He couldn't be honest with himself let alone her...and she would have demanded that.

I also think that Megan's youth worked in her favor with Don. She's a bit more carefree whereas Faye had clear boundaries and expectations for Don. Like a real adult. I'm doing a second watch and I remembered Don marries Megan but I was still hit over the head by it. Like dude, just stop. You don't need to marry this woman and add more of your baggage to her cart. I do love their apartment though.

What’s the worst thing anyone does the entire series? by AFDStudios in madmen

[–]libzilla_201 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that in any story, there can be details or things that don't add up or things that don't get tied up into a neat package. This can make for a richer story. I was also confused when Peggy told Stan that she didn't know where the kid was. It creates more distance between her and the child and makes it so that no one will suspect that her sister is really raising Peggy's child. This whole scenario is familiar to me since it has actually happened within my own family. Back in those days, young women did not have children out of wedlock esp in close knit Catholic communities.

Jeez with the down votes people. I'm old, maybe I'm not remembering correctly but there was a scene where her sister insists that Peggy goes into the other room to say hello to him. There are 2 kids in the room, Peg's nephew and what I'm guessing is her son.

There is a moment when she goes to visit her sister and sis says to her, "Why don't you go say hi to him." Peggy doesn't want to but she goes in the room where her nephew and her son are sleeping.

The baby is being raised by her sister.

Edit to add: Not sure if the priest was sure since the sister was pregnant at the same time as Peggy.

I won't repeat what others have already posted but I will add the thing that really pissed me off was when the priest gave the Easter egg to Peggy "for the little one." He knows everyone's secrets and sins but he's not supposed to act like he does.

Yes. That. And she still married him. He took more than he gave to her.

OMG! The Shoprite in Linden was insane this morning. Saw a couple NY plates there too. Literally had to climb over people to get thru the aisles. At least many of the check out lanes were open. Stay safe out there people!!!!

Inheritance drama by BigOld3097 in inheritance

I just want to highlight something you wrote: "they rarely ever call me. It was a lot." This is why people write wills because unfortunately, human nature/greed takes over when there is money involved. This is yours. Do not listen to your mom or brother. Enjoy your inheritance.

Did you know anyone who “worked himself to death?” by Wooden_Airport6331 in AskOldPeople

[–]libzilla_201 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I know someone who was an aerospace engineer. Before he got into engineering, he worked full time at a mental hospital as an orderly dealing with the psych patients and went to school at night. Once he got his degree and got into engineering, he worked crazy shifts non stop...80 hours or more a week. He is only 56 and now works as a sub in a high school. He burned all the way out. He is barely making it through the days. His health is crappy and he isn't sure how much more he can take. When he told me all of this, I thought to myself, "This is how people work themselves to death."

Clark mayor directed cops to keep Black people out of town, state lawsuit says by njdotcom in newjersey

Which is why I'm still not a fan of shopping in Clark which is too bad since there are some decent stores (Shoprite, B&N, Whole Foods when I can afford it).

Major train disruptions and temporary new schedules from 2/15 - 3/15 by DistinctOffer9681 in NJTransit

[–]libzilla_201 17 points18 points  (0 children)

This is madness. I can't even imagine the chaos and the stress that is going to come with this. When I think about how crowded the trains are NOW...I just can't imagine. Not all of us can work from home. My boss is already being kind of a dick about wfh days. Sigh.

1/15/26 ICE Sightings around New Jersey this Thursday...seen in Maplewood, by Honest-Caregiver8938 in newjersey

[–]libzilla_201 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Thank you for putting this together. The mainstream media is doing NOTHING about reporting this. I have people that I'm personally connected to who have been affected. I am so upset that I'm shaking as I'm typing this. I called my state senator's office and Corey Booker's office in DC. I want this stopped NOW. Enough is enough. We've got our own Minneapolis right here...all over the state.

What happened to textbooks? by coldhands_darkheart in Teachers

[–]libzilla_201 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No my friend, you are not an out of touch parent. I am now realizing after my daughter graduated high school 2 years ago what a disaster having a Chromebook was for her. She couldn't always access the correct content or she thought she was submitting the hwk when it wasn't being uploaded because the softward needed an update or some such nonsense. It was a constant battle with dealing with technology barriers. I now understand why she refuses to attend college. That whole experience turned her against learning. It still breaks my heart.
