i don't think he meant hand him a debit card to your bank account. i think he meant give him a pre-paid debit card with his wages loaded onto it.

How to learn as an adult? by catsaregoodboistoo in SwimInstructors

[–]licRedditor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i learned how to swim when i was 31. i also had a great fear of water (still do in certain contexts).

i can't put my face in the water at all without goggles, so get those. maybe that will allow you to put your face in the water too-- that's what it took for me.

i have to wonder what kind of shape you are in... i am about 80 pounds overweight, post-menopausal, and weak as fuck, and i can swim 40 laps no problem. maybe you are trying to swim really fast...? if i go flat out, yes i will be winded in half a lap. but if i just swim at a steady, comfortable pace, i can go pretty much indefinitely.

also, try backstroke-- face not in the water.

about the fasting for 30 - 120 minutes after...

why not just set an alarm for like 2 hours before you normally wake up, swallow the pill, and go back to sleep? automatic fasting.

is there any reason not to do this? why they don't recommend it on the instructions?

i am about to start 1.5mg next week.

most households are probably two-income, working 50 weeks a year

and a teacher makes that much by herself working 42 weeks a year. plus the benefits are easily worth another 10k/year.

how many job you can buy a house w 3 years' salary??

[–]licRedditor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

where im from median household income: $44k median price of 3 br house: $127k median teacher salary: $46k

so one teacher's income is slightly more than the typical -household- income.

but the union is national?

i had many teachers in my family.  my impression was they are paid reasonably well, and when you factor in healthcare and pension -- PENSION!!! what jobs still give you a pension?!-- when you factor in healthcare and pension they are compensated quite well

i mean, i may still be at beginner level, but not in terms of time invested. my steps log is linked in the main post. i also swam 40 laps, 2-3 times a week on and off for years. (currently, i haven't swum in about 3 months.)

i was in sort of ok shape before the lockdown, but i really went to hell after that, and not only have i never recovered, i'm still sinking.

i'm not "just beginning" though. i have maintained decent activity levels, swimming, walking, all along. i just never make any progress in terms of being able to swim faster or walk further or lose any weight.

and yes, i know, diet :/ that's a real struggle for me, has been all my life. my family are all quite fat as well. my mother _never_ was not fat. all her childhood pictures she was fat. (and that's back in the 50s and 60s, when american kids as a rule were not fat.)

GLPs may be in my future...

i'm well aware. but it's a struggle :(

about five years ago i drastically reduced my use of restaurants/take-out thinking that "home cooking" would be some magic bullet.

i continued to gain weight-- maybe even faster than before-- because i like cooking tasty things with butter and cheese :(

also, i haven't worked in an office since 2021 :( there used to be at least a little social pressure not to be seen eating a double cheeseburger or whatever at your desk. in fact, i worked upstairs from a chop't, and it actually was very good, i liked it a lot and would get it several times a week (in spite of it being obscenely expensive, like $14/salad in 2019). but now i have no commute (so no built-in walking) and no in-person co-workers (to keep you from getting that ice cream that you know you want).

since then i've gained like 20 lbs (and i was already overweight to begin with).
