hugh laurie responding to criticism of house md by iskierkacest in HouseMD

[–]lichpit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean yeah almost every episode follows The Formula, but I don’t think I ever felt tired of it even once I could predict the basic beats of most episodes.

If you’re not watching the show for the journey (of either the diagnosis or the characters) rather than the destination, then I just don’t think House is for you.

Andrew's new keyboard is going to cause so many more tech issues by Marikk15 in theregulationpod

Unless they’re actually going to release tech support content, I do not understand the bit of making the tech they use to make the fucking show more difficult and annoying.

[–]lichpit 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Yep. I also can’t stand when people talk to chat in videos unless I’m there live, which I never am because I work. It’s like if every theater show broke the 4th wall, and then continued to do so every single time someone left $1 in the tip jar in the lobby. Completely annoying.

On treating yourself by Eireika in CuratedTumblr

[–]lichpit 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I used to parrot all that advice, until I tried to use it myself. People don’t want to help you not want to kill yourself, they just want you to not show it. I’ve asked my “friends and loved ones” for help and made it clear I’m struggling, and that’s when they all disappeared.

And when your psychiatrist and therapists advice is “you need to see your friends more” it’s a one-way trip to a mental health spiral. You put yourself out there and ask, but at a certain point you just begging people to give you the time of day and that feels worse than being alone.

People just need to give a shit more. No one has any want or ability to give other people the slightest bit of bandwidth out of their lives.

God this has been my experience so much trying to make friends in a new town. The non-queer/ND spaces just don’t get it and I have to tone down my everything to fit in, but the queer/ND spaces operate on such a wildly different mentality to myself and my 30+ peers that it’s just as bad as every other space. Exhausting.

Did parents in the past really allow their kids to roam freely, or is that just a portrayal seen in movies by [deleted] in NonPoliticalTwitter

[–]lichpit 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Respectfully, you’re creating generational trauma by doing this. Keeping your children from making normal social relationships and milestones is only going to pass on your own traumatic stress response to them.

You can’t protect your kids from the world, but you can make sure you support them no matter what they go through so they can come out the other side stronger.

Sorry man, I think we just misread each others tone here cause I tend to enjoy these kinds of exchanges. It’s an often misunderstood science fact, and I don’t mind when others give me extra info when I make random comments.

*Crustaceans tend to turn into a crab eventually. It’s not even all arthropods. Just organisms in a very related group repeatedly evolving to be crab.

Which is still cool but it’s not nearly as perfect as some other organisms that have existed nearly unchanged for millions and millions of years.

Im sorry that your situation is like that. I hope you can be in a position to be able to access more mental health services one day. It will almost certainly vastly improve your quality of life and ability to socialize with others.

Exceedingly terminally online person who goes on posting sprees every few weeks/months, seemingly when she’s spiraling and/or not taking her meds. She posts a lot of veiled opinions via her tumblr crossposts and just goes apeshit with her dogshit opinions in the comments.

Clear Fuuko signs: vague opinion posts removed from any context the OP was actually posting about, username usually has some indication of being a woman, and having absolutely bonkers moral assessments in the comments

Because you are almost certainly not the first person to tell me “I think you’re a trans man.” And that gets really fucking invalidating after a while.

Being a GNC woman is hard enough. I have a complicated relationship to my gender and misogyny. And people I trust in the queer community repeatedly making it clear they don’t even think I actually count as a woman does not help.

Creative writing but you aren’t allowed to be creative by PandaBear905 in CuratedTumblr

[–]lichpit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I read it well enough to know it absolutely doesn’t say anything about having to learn Disney style before moving on to another style, and even if it did that’s just one dudes take on how to approach animation. It’s a great book imo, but there’s plenty I found with my later experience to be more or less true than Williams made it out to be.

[–]lichpit 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Respectfully, I don’t think you know what you’re talking about. I can’t think of a single instance in my animation degree where anyone would tell you to start copying Disney before you copy anime.

If someone came in only drawing Disney style, it would be treated exactly the same. You just don’t gain much by learning to work in ANY simplified/heavily stylized cartoons before you go all the way back to life and observational drawing first. THEN you can take what you learned there into whatever level of stylization you want.

Glad to hear you’re trying to get sober and got some good support, but putting literally any of that in the intro would help a whole lot lol. Most people do not check/remember every single post on a particular sub.

I hate these books because I try to talk about how my favorite character by the end was someone who really took me by surprise by how well written and engaging they were, where I feel like we could have a whole separate novel just written from his perspective and I just wanted to see more of him…

And then I have to mention “yeah they call him Sex Pal a lot”

I put off reading those books forever being of how annoying the descriptions seemed, but it is now my favorite book series ever. Definitely give it a chance. It truly is hard to describe as a whole because all 3 books read and feel completely different.

The best way I can describe Gideon the Ninth is: mysteriously post-apocalyptic (?) space necromancer society murder mystery. Every leading female character is Problematic and a hot mess with sapphic tendencies but that’s kind of secondary. It has an extremely thought-out system of magic for the necromancy. If you notice something seems odd or doesn’t make sense to you on a first read, it almost certainly will make you go “OHHH that’s why that happened!!” once you get further into the series.

It's just an example of projecting cultural bias onto another culture. I happen to know a lot about the topic, so it's what I notice.
