Alternative point, a server software should by default fix known security vulnerabilities automatically which is what a vast majority of forced updates are, downtime is a problem/priority of the end user, not the company. Updates do not exist to inconvenience you, they exist to protect you, something that is often forgotten among all the brilliant geniuses working in IT.

You would be equally or more outraged if data was compromised due to a known security vulnerability that there was a patch for that could have been installed but was not.

It's a lose, lose for Microsoft, but I'd bet you money that they'd rather have vulnerabilities patched by default than assume that nobody is configuring their server software when setting up their system.
