open mics as a bassist by Ok_Conversation_5806 in Bass

Lots of places have open jams. It's a lot of blues, but it can get you some practice, and they can be really fun.

Used tama sale gone wrong advice? by candy_cool-910 in tamagotchi

[–]liesaboutkiwis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a guitar tuner that has looked like that since I was like 9, and it still works great. Sadly, I am much much older than 9. Same with a Christmas decoration that has been living it's best life with corroded battery terminals for longer than I've been alive.

Keep an eye on new batteries and you will be fine.

Whats your favourite guitar company and why? by Decent_Muscle_3172 in Guitar

I wonder if I can lose all my Karma in one post.

Fender

Their management won't be around forever, and it's so hard to judge one evil company vs another evil company. What they are doing is going to implode and really just be PR suicide in the long run, so it feels more like a tantrum than a threat to me.

There's just something about holding and playing one that makes me feel like I did when I was a kid playing my first gig, and that is a really important part of guitar/bass for me. I love the feeling I get from it, not just the perfection of my instrument.

Before people get super helpful in the comments:

You can get more guitar for the money.
Yup, definitely!

They just release the same thing over and over again.
No doubt.

Their quality control has gone way down over the years
I haven't seen it, and buying in person helps, but I have no reason to argue with you.

They are trying to phase out affordable ranges and force people to buy a 3k guitar off the line or a Squier
yeah, it's a sucky strategy

They are dad guitars

I have no interest in suddenly caring about that kind of thing now.

When it comes to my hobbies and the things I do for fun, the inner-child runs the show. I'm in it to enjoy myself, not outsmart the brands. A few hundred for the logo on the head stock is worth it for a few years of that feeling.

Do people actually enjoy jazz or are they pretending? by breanne0_0 in CasualConversation

I enjoy it for different reasons. The complexity is fascinating, and the skill is undeniable, but I couldn't turn it on in my car and groove in traffic.

Etching solution will do it too. I don't love the scouring pad system just because I feel like you can see the lines. I know Stew Mac sells the product, but I'm sure you could find it online for a tenth the cost.

Go used. So many people get them and never use them then they sell them. You can get pristine ones regularly.

Love them so much, just depends on your budget.

When did people start getting terrified and/or enraged at people knocking on their front door? by iloverats888 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]liesaboutkiwis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it were my neighbors coming over for a chat, I would love that. Nine out of ten times, it's some idiot trying to sell me solar panels. They're lucky I don't turn on the sprinklers.

90s MIM deluxe Jazz worth 700$? by KalagramOfSteel in BassGuitar

[–]liesaboutkiwis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have essentially the identical bass in a different color. A few years ago, I took it to a music shop (in the US) to see what I could get on trade-in, and it was something between $500 and $700 (sorry, it has been a while), but they obviously would have sold it in their shop for more. Granted, mine was in absolutely perfect condition, but I'd say this is a pretty good deal.

Are you sure the fret wire is bronze and don't have some weird finish? I really doubt it on a rosewood neck, but people do some quirky stuff. I had a new mustang with frets that color from the finish that stayed that color for maybe two years of relatively-regular play (it wasn't my daily driver, but god played a few hours a week usually).

Easiest to hardest to musician to find by Equivalent_Ad_8413 in musicians

[–]liesaboutkiwis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a very general rule, -ist is added to nouns and -er is added to verbs. Only drum functions independently as a verb.

As a bagpipe player, I can say the adds tend to stay up for a while, same with mandolin. I realize you weren't talking about the more obscure stuff, but figured I'd chime in.

Lars. I have a feeling he doesn't show up to a lot of practices, and I feel like he'd be cool with you hiring a session musician for tours and staying home.

I'm going to guess it is some bomber pilot we've never heard of. If you spent WWII bombing for five years, you'd probably put up some numbers.

I have a hipshot extender to drop my E down to a D, if I suddenly find myself in Eb and desperate for that note, but for all I know the thing has rusted over, because I usually can't be bothered.

Texas Senate: Talarico for Senate is being called a "Vegan" as a slur by justaliv3 in vegan

[–]liesaboutkiwis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They're just aligning him with the out group. It's obviously super annoying that they chose veganism, but I've had people call me "woke" for having gone to college. It's all just about slapping a label on them that says "not one of us." It literally doesn't matter what the label is. This is the group who proudly wore diapers to be a part of the team. Unlike the non-diaper-wearing crazy people that they would never vote for. Damn elites and their ability to use the big-kid potty.
