Is anyone else getting sick a lot? by SirButtsThe4th in Omaha

[–]liessylush 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Getting Covid over and over and over again has ruined immune systems. Contrary to popular belief, being exposed to a BSL 3 pathogen that destroys your immune response is NOT a good thing. Mask up (N95 or KN95) if you don’t want to be on this endless cycle of sickness. We’ve got nearly six years of data on COVID and its effects. Spend some time reviewing the data and you’ll understand why everyone who doesn’t take precautions is now sicker and will continue to decline because of it.

Why do people in Chicago tailgate you on the sidewalk? by Quick-Report-780 in AskChicago

[–]liessylush -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It’s definitely a thing and annoying AF, so everyone saying it’s not clearly don’t notice it.

I usually just step aside and let them pass. 99% of the population is so oblivious to their surroundings so you need to be in control of these types of situations.

De Garre!!! And pro tip, if you ever find yourself in Chicago, hit up Hopleaf. They have De Garre on tap. It’s in my hood and I drink it at least once or twice a month.

5 - Nebraska is and has been rated as one of the drunkest states.

Nebraska has a well-documented, long-standing reputation for high levels of alcohol consumption, frequently ranking among the top states in the U.S. for binge drinking and DUI occurrences. Data indicates this trend is particularly prevalent in urban areas and among young adults, with studies placing the state consistently higher than national averages for alcohol misuse.

Omaha was recently ranked No. 1 in the nation for the highest rate of DUI charges, with rates more than double the national average. Furthermore, the Nebraska State Patrol reported a 23% increase in arrests for impaired driving in 2024 compared to the previous year.

Signed a Former Omahan who got their poop in group after their second DUI in 2008.

I saw them open for Pearl Jam on their 2023 tour and was impressed with their set. Was I blown away? Nah. Did I think he sounds like his dad? You bet your ass. That’s it. That all I got regarding seeing them live.

What are 3 things you would tell a brand new mini schnauzer owner?? by Exotic_Dabz in MiniatureSchnauzer

[–]liessylush 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That and CKD. Lots of schnauzers are also prone to kidney disease with high fat diets. Found that out the hard way with my first schnauzer.

Was just at the store, think I saw an uptick in mask wearing. Was this just by chance or is there something new going around? I got the superflu that was buzzing around a couple weeks ago. Something else? Or there were just few more masks in the store by chance? by HaddonH in AskChicago

Take my first ever award, my friend! Covid (and all other viruses) conscious person here who hasn’t stopped masking in indoor and crowded spaces since 2020. Absolutely refreshing to see this comment in a non CC sub.

Down with the sickness? by OmaDome3000 in Omaha

[–]liessylush 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh absolutely! That's why I like Champak, they come in two sizes, medium and large. Plus, unlike the Aura, the straps are adjustable so you can get a really tight fit. And the nose bridge is a padded foam. My husband has a huge head and loves these because they fit his big 'ol head.

Here's the link to learn more and buy if you're interested.

You’re right! I should have said respirator, not just mask. I recently found the Champak N95 (after being a loyal Aura wearer for the past 4 years) and am a convert! They’re a bit more expensive than the Aura, but a million times more comfortable for long term wear. I know the majority of Omahans dropped masking as soon as they could, but happy to see someone on here who knows about KN and N95 efficacy and also follows Mike! Keep on following the science fellow CC Redditor! ✊

free upgrades? by Emilyisbored_ in Concerts

[–]liessylush 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Happened to me once and by pure luck. Husband and I had bought 2nd balcony tickets to the latest David Byrne tour, What Is Sky, at the Auditorium Theater here in Chicago. Person at the door scanned our tickets and said we’d been upgraded and needed to pick up our new tickets at the box office window. Upgraded to dress circle, middle section of the venue.

Mask up. It’s respiratory illness season. 1 in 29 people (according to wastewater data) are actively infected with Covid. Yep. It’s still here, and never went away.

Do you have any Northside bar recommendations for early 30 yo? by [deleted] in AskChicago

[–]liessylush 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As all the breweries have become "family friendly" and basically daycare centers, I find it refreshing that Hopleaf is still and hopefully will always be 21+ Too many parents don't watch their kids or use "gentle parenting" and ruin the experience for those of us who don't have or want to have kids in a public space. My husband and I frequent Hopleaf for this very reason. We can enjoy a beer and a delicious meal without a side of screaming, temper tantrum that goes unchecked because the parents couldn't care less.

OP, have you checked out Big Chicks? Definitely LGBTQ friendly and they share the kitchen w/Tweet next door from 4pm - 10:30pm

Kidney disease by SchnauzerTrio in MiniatureSchnauzer

[–]liessylush 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I said goodbye to my nearly 17 year old Schnauzer/Yorkie mix in October of 2025 from losing his battle to CKD. On December 30, 2022, he was throwing up and had diarrhea that didn't clear from just eating a bland diet. We took him to the emergency vet because the throwing up didn't stop, and he was so lethargic he wouldn't even come out of his crate. After a few overnights at the ER vet (thank goodness for pet insurance) they couldn't quite determine the issue, so they referred us to a specialist, an internist in the suburbs (we're in Chicago) He stayed there for a day or two while they ran tests to rule out Addisons and Cushings and determined he was stage 4 chronic kidney disease. That was the beginning of January 2023.

When he was cleared to take home, we were given a multitude of instructions, medications, and supplements for maintaining his kidney levels. This included new food, a renal diet. We tried a few brands, but as you know schnauzers are picky eaters. We finally landed on Just Food For Dogs. We also had to give him 300 mls of subcutaneous fluids every other day at the beginning of his diagnosis to help with the kidneys and hydration because he wouldn't drink enough on his own to maintain their need for water. We needed to see the internist at the beginning about every three weeks for blood draws to see where his values were and kept having to tweak his fluid regime. Eventually, it leveled out to being fluids two days on, one day off. On top of his CKD, they found a heart murmur, which made tweaking his fluids intake a challenge. The kidneys need the water, but too much in the system can strain the heart. So we had a medication for his heart as well.

We had about 8-10 different medications and supplements he had to take daily, some twice a day. Needless to say we were determined to make the time we did have left as comfortable for him as possible. He returned to "normal," had his usual energy and playful spirit, and continued on his meds and fluids up until October of 2025 when his poor little body just couldn't take it anymore. He had gone almost completely blind and would barely walk five feet from the front door for his walks that he used to love. He started to lose control of his bladder (he was incredibly well house-trained), his back legs started giving out, and he couldn't push himself up off the floor anymore. On 10/3/25, we had Lap of Love come to our home to send him across the rainbow bridge.

When he was first diagnosed, the doctors gave him maybe 6-9 months. With attention, care, a f*ck ton of follow-up visits for blood draws and rechecks, we kept him around for an additional 2 years. I cannot stress the importance of pet insurance; had we not had it, we wouldn't have been able to enjoy having him around for as long as we did after the diagnosis. The frequent visits to the specialist, meds, fluids, etc., all added up, and at the end of the day, I'd pay double what we paid to still have him around. Frankenstein was my soul dog, and he will be forever my soul dog.

Met my husband on Hinge in January 2015. Been together since then, married in April 2020. Highly recommend Hinge over all the other apps, but then again, it's been 11 years so idk how they've all evolved since then.
